Quotation: “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant: It’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” - Ronald Reagan

G'Day!

I think I am the only Australian here at SC for the moment so I hope none of you judge my country on what I say here! * wink *

I live in a place close to Beaudesert which is in the Brisbane metro area, a city of about 2 million and the capital of the Australian state of Queensland.

I live on a 2 acre block with acacias, eucalyptus trees and bottle brush bushes. There are many birds that are considered exotic like cockatoos, kookaburras, parrots of all colours, as well as flying foxes that eat the mangos and eucalyptus flowers in summer.

I don't see any kangaroos here but they are hard to see at the best of times. There are a lot of green tree frogs when it rains, as well as lizards of all shapes and sizes. There are occasionally snakes in the yard, especially hanging around the chickens (chooks).

I work in advertising, and it takes me about an hour on the nearby freeway to get to work. I choose to live in the urban fringe for some peace and solitude, although everything I need is a few minutes away.

I love SC even though I sometimes use it to vent. I like discussing politics but I think I will lay off that for a bit * wry smile * . I can't remember when I first came across SC - I have no concept of time, but I'm glad Bill came up with it.

STUPID LIBERAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

"He's (Osama bin Laden) been out in these countries for decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day-care facilities, building health-care facilities, and these people are extremely grateful. We haven't done that."
Patty Murray- Democratic Senator Washington [speech to a high school honors class] (Bin Laden - the ultimate Liberal)

During the Clinton Administration I had an extremely good and well paying job. I took numerous vacations and had several vacation homes. Since President Bush took office, I have watched my entire life change for the worse. I lost my job. I lost my two sons in that terrible Iraqi War. I lost my homes. I lost my health insurance. As a matter of fact I lost virtually everything and became homeless. Adding insult to injury, when the authorities found me living like an animal, instead of helping me, they arrested me. I will do anything to insure that a Democrat is back in the White House in 2008. Bush has to go.

Sincerely,

Saddam Hussein

Jump to SurveyDon't get me wrong, I think it's a good thing that people are getting independent of the grid. Solar and wind power are good auxiliary power supplies, but they are unable to supply all needs, and as cheaply as fossil fuels. If there are win/win initiatives I'm all for them, but simply taxing the poor out of driving (the rich will never stop) is regressive and inequitable. The shift to ethanol has raised the price of corn. Now people in the 3rd world can't afford to compete with the price offered by fuel producers, so corn is no longer used as food.

The LA smog was a local problem. That air pollution was a result of topography and population density. On a global scale, life on the planet LOVES CO2. Carbon monoxide does not remain CO for long as it is unstable and free oxygen atoms bond to form CO2. Trees and crops, coral, anything that uses CO2 grows faster and with less fresh water when the atmosphere has more of this stuff.

BTW, in the 1940's CO2 was at around 420ppm. It's now 388ppm. Where's the connection to warming?
Jump to SurveyI'm not sure. I've eaten food produced in the US, so I probably have. For some reason Americans think it's OK for chemical companies to dictate the type and safety of foods they eat, then they allow these corporate fascists to try and force this crap on the rest of the world.
Jump to SurveyNothing in her hideous song is irony. This incident is not ironic. It's a coincidence, even if you want to push it that far. Look up the word "irony" PLEASE!
