Passions:
-- World music: Especially Fado and Rancho Folclorico (folk music and dance from Portugal) and sones jarochos (Mexico). Also like Tex-Mex, Mariachi, salsa and other Latin sounds; various Brazilian (sertaneja, samba, capoeira, forró, Gal Costa); Hawaiian chant-songs (oli); traditional Cajun/Zydeco; blues; bluegrass; folk; trad jazz; Grateful Dead.
-- Photography: Many San Francisco photos online. Most are on photosharing site "Webshots" and my homepage (see below), with lesser amount on MySpace.
-- Garage/Yard/Sidewalk/Estate/Book, etc. sales.
-- Farmers' Markets.
-- Plants: Especially herbs, fragrance plants, veggies, dwarf fruit trees, flowers; wildflower walks.
-- Urban Walking/Hiking; San Francisco history and nature group walks. Trails, hills, parks, beaches. I'm a strong preservationist and SF history buff.
-- Very small, older cottages, especially 1906 "earthquake refugee shacks" that are still being lived in today.
-- Reading -- thrillers; nonfiction. Like foraging/edible plants experts, especially author "Wildman" Steve Brill.

-- Birdsongs; cats; dogs
-- Public outdoor stairway-streets and city hills, the steeper the better.

Jump to SurveyNo, but it does make for some really good special effects in films, and lots of new scary novels.
Jump to SurveyFor a long time at that company there were a lot of nervous people, losing their tempers at others, etc. because they didn't know who would be the next to be let go. There wasn't enough work, either, and they'd tell us to "look busy." And when you're older, they tend to pass you over for younger people when trying to find a new job. It's very hard on the nerves. Also, if you've been just doing the same ol' routine job for years, then when you're trying to find a new job this hinders you as well as you're limited in experience.
Jump to SurveyDo not have one. Had to take early retirement some years ago because I got downsized from a 22-year job (in one place) when they had a merger. Then worked a succession of horrific temp jobs with low pay before I could retire with enough to barely survive on.
