The Second Coming by William Butler Yeats

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

It all depends on the subject matter. I am full of passionate intensity if it is a subject I really care about.

I certainly don't think I exude passionate intensity. I'm fairly rational and logical and I can often look at things quite dispassionately - so lacking in all conviction, but responsive to the evidence perhaps?

I would think it is somewhere in-between and depends on the subject!

I have very strong, solid convictions. I remain very calm, cool and collected at all times. I am not subject to emotional outbursts.

I think I am closer to full of passionate intensity than I am to lacking all conviction. But I don't think I'm especially passionate or intense.

This is from one of my favourite ever quotes, by Yeats. Well, there was a time many would have seen me as lacking all conviction: disabused you could say, and heading for burn-out. And among those, I feel there are those who's have seen me as among "the best"...brilliant, sensitive, idealistic and so on. But today I'd describe myself as being full of passionate intensity, but not so idealistic. Of course Yeats was voicing a tortured poet's hypersensitive view: I don't think it necessarily follows that the best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity. Still a great quote!

Really depends on what is going on. Somethings I care about a great deal and am very passionate about them. Other things I could care less and those I have no conviction to uphold.

I am full of passionate intensity with some things and lack all conviction with others. Just depends on what the topic is.
