I had not heard of the handbag.

When I read the question before seeing the pictures, I thought of the mechanical contraption first and the verb second. The purse never crossed my mind.

Various things, but the first...clutch bag

A bunch of chickens first, then some kind of machinery in a car second.

Gear transmission device.

Wow. I think it depends what I am currently doing.
Getting dressed up to go somewhere it would be the purse.
If I was downstairs in my shop working on the tractor I would think of the mechanical clutch.
And collecting eggs from the chickens it would bring to mind a group of eggs.

Having the images there ruined the experiment, since I saw the automotive clutch first.

My clutch bag

Sorry, I didn't think of that possibility.
I assumed (bad me!) that people would see the question in the list, picture something, then click on it. This wouldn't be the case if you get to it by pressing 'next' in a survey (which I often do, so I should have considered that. Oh well!)

No worries! I was trying to decide what I would most likely have thought of first if I hadn't seen the picture, and I think the image of someone clutching something would probably have come to mind first.

Somebody clutching at something (like straws). Then the handbag. The car thing wouldn't occur to me unless it was in context.

I picture the 3rd pedal on a standard/manual transmission car or truck. The top pic doesn't exactly look like what I have in mind. I guess it is the inner workings of the clutch.

The actual pedal.

The Advanced Stats on this survey are predictable, but still interesting.

When they first asked me, my immediate thought was 'integral' such as "He made a clutch play." After that I went to the mechanism. I didn't even think of the handbag/purse type of clutch but have heard it before, am familiar with them and could possibly define some distinctive attributes for some reason.

Gears, heavy metal, shifter, something that makes something 'go'.
I guess a purse could do that too smiley:::wry smile

the first thing I picture is a fist, the first thing I think of is a car and manual transmission

I don't even know what the second pic is.

That is a small type purse you see some women carry when going out usually to a fancy gathering. It is called a clutch.

I had never heard of that. Thanks.
