How much paid time off do you get per year at your job?

Include paid vacation days, sick time, personal time, and any other time that you do not have to go to work, but you are being paid.

The UK legal minimum: 28 days, which in my case comprises 20 days discretionary and 8 public holidays. I don't get any sick leave on full pay, sick leave is on SSP (Statutory Sickness Pay) levels only.

I get 10 paid vacation days and 7 paid sick days per year. We also close for the week between Christmas and New Year's, and I get paid for that. So, 22 paid days off in total.

I get 7.08 hours paid time off per pay period and 1.54 hours paid sick leave per pay period. I did not take any vacation for the first three years I worked there, but I did sell back some of the time here and there. I currently have 136.7 hours PAL (Paid Annual Leave) available and 142.45 hours paid sick leave available.

hard to say, self-employed... the way my business works, money comes in even when I'm not actually working. It isn't a lot of money though.
I haven't taken much time off in a while, actually.

I used to get 3 then 4 weeks (I think) when I had a real job. Plus holidays.

If you are ill or injured in a way that prevents you from working for 7-28 days you do not get paid, but can make a claim on your short term disability insurance (every employer in my field is required to have this for all their full-time employees). If you are unable to work for longer than 4 weeks then you apply for long term disability. These claims won't get you your full paycheck, but at least they get you some money (don't remember the exact percentage - I think around 65%)

i get 4 weeks but it accumulates if i don't use it up to a certain amount and then you have to use some of it.....

If I were permanent, it would be 28 days a year. I'm on a six month contract, so I get 14 days.

That being said ;) when I had to punch a time clock I had about 17 days, only 5 of which were guarenteed. That means I could make plans. The rest of the days they could have forced me to move them to anther time even at the last second. jSo I always had to make plans away from holidays and such which was fine with me. Sick days were different. No one really took advantage of those, except maybe once or twice when things got too hot at home wink

I get 20 vacation days and 2 personal days; there isn't a specific number of sick days.

So wouldn't providing more sick days if needed (say 15) reduce the the insurance premiums companies pay no matter whether any claims are made? Just a thought.

I have no idea. All of this is controlled by the MCCP (Manitoba Child Care Program; they're the government branch that regulates child care in the province). I just deal with what we've been given.
Also, if we were given more paid sick days, the government would need to provide more funding for that (all child care employees are paid through grants given to day cares). We're always asking for more money and not getting it, so I really doubt that would happen.

More allocated sick days would not mean more are actually taken, but the premiums paid regardless of actual claims would fall since less employees would actually need the insurance in the period up to say 15 days.

I assumed Canada would be more generous in its leave awards.

Holidays 8 days
Sick time is unlimited in theory although if you start taking a lot of it HR may ask for some reason
By a lot I mean in excess of 2 weeks.

Canada as a whole may be more generous with such things; I'm not sure. Child care is still a profession that's often looked down on, seen as not important. We have an advocacy group trying to get us better wages and benefits (among other things). It has been improving, but it's very slow going.

On a slight tangent/rant: I have the second highest level of training you can get around here (2-year diploma plus 25 hours of PD a year), and currently make $28k a year. If I get the highest training and stay in the field long enough, it's likely that the most I'll ever make is about $35k.

Wow. So people who are in the industry aren't there for the money. In a way that is a good thing, but I think you deserve more.

No, because people take sick days even when they're not sick.

For example, if it were mid-December and I had two sick days left over I'd make sure they've been used up even if I'm not sick.

What if those days roll over to the next financial year? Imagine if you need a long hospital stay and have many months of sick leave accumulated over many years. No insurance, and an incentive to save sick days for possible future needs?

16 days per year plus paid holidays I am not sure how many of those there are though.

28 days, but I think I may have gained another 5 this year after five years employment. Medical staffing are pretty useless where I work. Still trying to get an accurate contract for a job I started a year and a half ago. At this rate, I'll have moved on before they get it right.
