If you could make a law, what would it be about?

I have a project at school to make a Bill and I just wanted to see what kind of law you all would make.

Let's see... I would change several existing laws. Pedophiles and rapists would get life on Alcatraz, first offense. Then they can rape each other. They can fish for their own damn food, too.
Animal cruelty would be an instant one-year minimum for each offense, not just a freakin' fine.
I would make a law for assisted suicide. If a person is dying, and wants to check out early, why not? It's their life, their body... as long as they have everything in order first. Attempting suicide would not be a crime, as long as you didn't hurt anyone in the attempt.
The death penalty would be easier to implement. I would make a law that says, one appeal, and you have to do it within a year... after a year of your conviction, bye bye baby.
I would repeal all the laws that give criminals behind bars so many rights. They do NOT need cable TV, exercise rooms, computers. They can eat bologna or PB&J sandwiches for lunch and dinner, and have pancakes for breakfast. They can work off the cost of their incarceration by tending to the prison's gardens or out on chain gangs. They can have libraries full of only educational or inspirational books. No fiction.

I think that is a great law. If I am not allowed to smoke in a public place because it bothers some people, then I find it constitutional to not let perfume fill a room with it's stench. I hate being at a restaraunt, and taking a bite just as some perfumey woman walks by and I get to taste it with my bite. Or my SO's lungs shut down from the smell, and we have to leave, far too often we have to get up and leave because she cannot breathe. If I cannot smoke, or play loud music, then there could be limits on chemical aromas floating off of peoples bodies.

Actually, it isn't illegal to be a pedophile. It only becomes illegal if you act on your feelings and desires.

Reality is, the term pedophile is over-used, mis-used and also interchanged with 'child molestor' so often the meaning is lost.

Pedophile doesn't always equal child molester and vice versa.

A pedophile is someone who cares for children in a relationship sense the way two adults would in a normal situation. They see the child as a love figure and not just a sex object. I've read the vast majority of pedophiles are 'in the closet' and never do anything with it. At this point there is no law that says you can't love or lust after children.

The problem is when the pedophile crosses over into child porn or attempts to have a relationship/sex with a child. Then it becomes illegal and the person a sex offender.

On the other hand, a child molester is more akin to a rapist, one who seeks power, control or easy gratification. They usually don't care about children. They just want to get off using children.

Of course there are those in-between the two extremes.

I think the media has muddled the whole thing by pinning everything as 'pedophile' this or that.

I would make a law that said that the entire law for the country(including tax law , health laws, social laws, bylaws etc) had to fit in a single standard 400 page book at a standard font with no addenda, abbreviations or jargon. Current laws in Canada and the US are too complicated, the average person ought to be able to read and understand the complete law of the place where they live. If you can't do that, then it should be unenforceable. Laws that are too long seem to be trying to hide something (even from lawyers and experts: see tax law).

Sure isn't free anything! When I spent time in Europe (1977, 1981, and 1985) Spain (and Italy both) treated their children and old people a whole lot better than America. I was ashamed.

Seems other countries sure appreciate age and experience enough to help out their senior citizens. Bush and his Medicare fiasco is causing some seniors to pay out more from an already limited income. Not all, of course, but poverty is an equal opportunity employer.

I know people with zero medical coverage or insurance and they're scared crapless. I know of people who have insurance but still can't afford all the co-pays on top of what their employer takes out for coverage.

That's the only thing I do have and only because I'm at poverty level with my SSI (Social Security Supplemental Income) of $607/mo and get "medical coupons" via the state of Washington.

South, this country's fudgeed taking care of the citizens that have fallen through the cracks. And, I worked all my life except for recovery from the housefire and surgeries and the 5 years I took off to be an unpaid caregiver for my Mother until she died of Alzheimer's.

This country does have its issues, but I really don't think that Bush is the one to blame, at least not to the extent you say he is. I think its more because of our culture and lenient anti-lobbing laws in addition to government interference in peoples lives due to these lobbing efforts (yes, I am a capture theorist).

Increasing the supply of doctors and scraping idiotic burocratic rules is bound to lower health costs. Not to mention runaway jury lawsuits and allowing insurance companinies to insure some idiotic procedures (plastic surgery comes to mind) don't do much to promote affordable health insurance either.

I dont think a guy in his early 20s who sleeps with his underage girlfriend (or similar scenarios where there was no "preying on" involved) should be registered sex offenders. Sex offenders who pose no threat to others have no business being treated like they do. Forceable rape and pedophiles who prey on children should not be compared to people over 18 who dated someone under 18. That's insane. Id have that changed.

I think Id also have harassment and assault laws changed to be more harsh on kids. If they get sent to juvi for adult crimes, something should be done about more serious "bullies" and kids who target and harass other kids. Teach them young to be more tolerant of other people and differences.

My law that anybody who ever wanted to attend any church anywhere they legally could do so and dress as they like to and they can just be themselves if a certain church tells you not to come in they that church they could be arrested it would be a class 2 felony to ban anybody from simply coming to church of their own choosing pass this law * smile *

Wouldn't it just be better to avoid those places.
If they chase away everyone then they have no income and will close.

Maybe your right just form a human blockade and keep people from going in their stinky poo church no income surely would hurt them force them to shut down their churches yes just staying away from them I just want others to know churches do not accept all people just as they are for simply being who they are in this life themselves * smile *
