When appropriate. Often one word answers are the only way to ensure a full range of options - wordier answers can be too specific for anyone to actually select. I think many of my favourite surveys have been the ones where wordier answers have actually worked well.

No. I think of surveys as inspiration for conversation. A response such as 'No' doesn't ellicit much conversation.

No. Personally I prefer thought provoking questions that require individuals to include stories or further descriptions I their answers. I further believe that such questions help one to explore their creativity in ways that one word answers do not.
