Should it be legal to walk around in outdoor public places carrying an open beer?

The sidewalk, side of the road, park, etc.

1I don't know

Of course, as long as the beer drinker is not being offensive, absolutely, I used to often drink in public back in my drinking days, although I always remember one incident when I opened a can of 'bud': this was far from a public place, on an isolated green or whatever; but two women turned around as I recall; and I am convinced one said to the other something like: 'I never like that sound'. Alcohol in public can be menacing, and anyone who chooses to drink in public has to be aware of that fact. As a teetotaller, I can be wary of public drinking myself now.

Sure, as long as the person carrying it is of legal drinking age.

Well, you probably know how I feel about this from recent comments, but yes.

As long as a person isn't hurting or disturbing anyone, they should do what they want.

It would be interesting to see the results of a survey like this, but with smoking a joint.

Smoke, though. Any smoke... the dynamics are different.

Yeah, when you bring in smoking then the comparison would be with walking around with an open beer and spilling it on people. That's not so okay.

Here, it is legal to walk around in outdoor public places carrying an open beer. I don't think it's a major factor in the alcohol problem this country has.

No it should be illegal and against the law such as women in Denver having a topless protest they should keep their freaking bras on

I personally don't object and I think there are far too many laws trying to control perfectly reasonable behaviours such as this. On the other hand, it isn't a huge deal. Just pour it in a glass.

I don't like or drink alcohol of any kind. For this question, I believe at a picnic in a public park would be understandable, but else where....why?
(reply to LJD) posted 6-Sep-2016 4:57am
Why not? I don't see people getting bent out of shape when someone has an open can of soda and are walking down the street.

My thought is alcohol is a fast acting poison, where a soda is a slower poison to the person. Alcohol can hurt the drinker, and others.

Alcohol is bad, it makes people lose their senses. Soda does that over a longer period of time.

Ask yourself, why do people drink alcohol? It tastes horrible. They want to lose themselves for a period of time? It alters the mind.

I don't agree with this. Granted some tastes horrible (at least to me) the rest have a flavor.
I have a few beers and/or glasses of wine a week and it is not to lose myself.

Everything is poisonous to the body in huge doses, but in moderation most things are not harmful.

Many people are allergic to the grains in the alcohol, cause serious health issues.

I don't drink, never took a liking. On rare occasion do I have a glass of wine. Growing up, there was NO alcohol in the house. My parents did not drink.

My one daughter loves to have a glass of wine on occasion. My two sons can't drink at all. Another daughter on rare occasion. My husband is a severe alcoholic. My sons inherited their dad's genetic disorder with alcohol. My sons were healed of the disorder in their early 20's, many years ago..never to drink again.

To some people, coffee is bad for them, to others, can be good. Refined sugar is deadly to everyone. Sodas, colas are deadly....the list goes on.

Would you go to church with an open can of beer?
