I don't think you'll find a lot of variation here. The human gastrointestinal system works pretty much the same way for everyone. Certain food combinations will give everyone gas.

Cabbage, radishes, cucumbers, cheese, beans, beer...

Beans. But the main thing that gives me trapped wind is PMS.

Fruit like cantaloupe and honeydew make me belch. Cooked onions make me blow up like a balloon, and I can play my tummy like a drum... sounds like one too! I have to take Alka Seltzer and go for a walk to get it to move out. Painful.
Beer can really make me peel wallpaper. Hops are a berry, that counts!

None of those things seem to bother me, and I have all of them all the time. I just had radishes, cucumbers, and onions in vinegar and oil last night with some Beers to wash it down. It hasn't ever effected me.

Broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower turn me into a weapon of mass destruction, so I avoid them as much as I can. Steak does a number on me too, but that stays. Carnivore farts are sublime; you can almost taste the meat all over again...

Vegetable & dairy. I am a vegetarian so this is a common thing at my house and although not pleasant we try to be polite & excuse ourselves during dinner and when guests are around otherwise we just let it rip. My sister is vegan & she is way worse.

Hey, I missed you too! I've been pretty busy this summer, my PC crashed, and I was out of commission for the last two weeks. How are you, sweety?
(reply to hypersky) posted 6-Aug-2006 9:25pm
Bored for now, but I have peaches almost ready to pick and can.... bought a new water-bath canner today. Still boring stuff, but at least I will be busy. My garden is out of control!

Can't wait for the 22nd, we're going to my hometown for the local county fair. This time I get to go on the rides with my little girl!! Other than that, it's just the same ol' same ol' stuff.

Sucks about your PC.... did you get a virus? How are your girls? Are they excited about school starting soon? Or does the school year run up there like ours do? My little girl starts preschool in about a month. I can't believe my baby is going to school..... it feels so strange!!
(reply to cabinfever) posted 6-Aug-2006 10:17pm
Yeah, I gotta try that & definitely slip some in my sisters tea.
Geez she could kill a horse.

Processed meat like bacon or sandwich meat gets my hubby to peeling paint off walls. My little three year old girl, the sweetest looking angel, makes her daddy proud in that department! Gotta go get some Beano.... I wonder if it works for meat too.
(reply to cabinfever) posted 6-Aug-2006 10:22pm
I think I'll pick some up tomorrow, maybe two.
(reply to cabinfever) posted 6-Aug-2006 11:17pm
We have a peach tree too! Well, now we do. It is very little but it has a lot of peaches. I've never canned anything but I'm going to talk Anne into it so we can try together. Today I bought a Rose a Sharon. Where we moved from there were those & lilac bushes & I was upset about leaving them because they were monstrous. We don't know where to get a lilac bush from. I also left behind my weeping cherry tree. I'd wanted one for a long time. Finally got one & I had to leave it. I'm getting another the minute I see one.

> Today I bought
> a Rose a Sharon.

If your peach tree has lots of peaches, that means it probably wasn't thinned. People get all caught up in getting as many fruit as possible (me too) and they don't thin out the peaches when they are green. If they aren't thinned, that little tree will have some branches break from the weight of the fruit. Make sure you take care of the tree.... peach trees are prone to two diseases in particular that are quite destructive and ugly. And bugs like ants and earwigs love them too. I need to get out there and spray mine.

Lilac bushes should be available almost anywhere.... a local nursery, Hell Depot, Lowe's, etc. Just depends on what color you want, as some colors are much more common than others. Someday I want a pink lilac bush. Here we have several purple and one huge white one.

As far as canning is concerned, if all you have is the one peach tree, I wouldn't worry about it.... at least not this year. If you are going to have a garden next year and want to can your own salsa, make your own spaghetti sauce or whatever, then it might be worth it. Keep an eye out for yard sales and especially estate sales.... they are a great place to pick up jars and other canning supplies really cheap. I got a couple hundred jars and other stuff at one estate sale for only $40. The USDA has an excellent little book about canning.... if you are serious about it, I really recommend getting it.

(reply to cabinfever) posted 7-Aug-2006 2:54am
Cool, thanks for the tips. We have some nature of an apple tree too. I ate one, not bad. I had purple lilac. I think I'd like pink or white though, maybe one of each! smiley:::smile
Rose of Sharon- sorry. I always call it Rosa a Sharon from the book Grapes of Wrath. Looks like this-

Very pretty. Mine are a pale pink color.

Eggs, sometimes beans, but not if I eat them daily. I don't eat meat except fish, rarely chicken, but never recall an issue there.

I do recall that the toilet smelled much worse before I became a vegetarian.
(reply to RGirl) posted 7-Aug-2006 2:40pm
Oh.... never heard of a Rose of Sharon.... maybe I'll have to google that.
(reply to cabinfever) posted 9-Aug-2006 11:07pm
Get used to it, honey; they grow up so fast. Next thing you know, she'll be asking for the car keys...

My PC got tons of viruses thanks to Morpheus and "Cool Emoticons" that my daughters downloaded. There was too much crap for the machine to run properly, so it had to be built up again. A bad case of cyberclap.

Sounds like you are one very busy girl, with your garden and all. Canning time must be one thing after the other. Do you enjoy the whole canning and preserves thing? I'm more of a taster and appreciator myself...
(reply to hypersky) posted 10-Aug-2006 1:49am
Cyberclap... that is hysterical! Love that one.

Canning time is one thing after another.... and most times, more than one thing at a time! Last year I was canning peaches, making jam out of some of them, making applesauce, canning blackberries and making salsa all at the same time. Oh, can't forget the relish and chow-chow. I know I'm forgetting something else.... laughing out loud

Oh, pie filling, green tomatoes for my dad, raspberries. I want to try fruit salsa this year, with peaches. I was going to make my own pickles, but my cucumber plants have come down with some problem... some bug really likes them. Ah, all just boring middle-of-nowhere stuff. Not an exciting day all summer.

(reply to cabinfever) posted 10-Aug-2006 6:43pm
Sounds like a lot of work, but you must really enjoy all those jams and salsas and stuff during the winter.
(reply to hypersky) posted 11-Aug-2006 12:56am
Gives me a feeling of accomplishment... because I can't cook worth a crap most times. I like to give some of it away too. And I can't stand the thought of all that fruit going to waste. It just doesn't make sense not to do something with it.

if you have gas and are feeling bloating and pressure try Guzzling Dr. Pepper, Root beer,or pepsi. Also drink any type of Alcohol, force out the burp this will make it BIG and LOUD and relieve the pressure. Also eat Cabbage, or cabbage and a banana or a Pear not long after dinking soda this will cause Farting and help with this also. I found Dr. Pepper and Pears work best for me, although this may cause other issues so use caution. Pepsi and Cabbage or Pepsi and a pear or 2 worked good for me too, Also In hale air and swallow it imediately after guzzling a soda repeat this each time you burp drink more soda right after. This causes more air to enter your stomach, do this every few mins to build up lots of air. I do this all the time and my burps are bigger louder, Make sure you're standing or sitting so the air goes up. If the pressure is more downward lying down on your side might help cause you to fart. But as my uncles always say "Beans Beans the musical flute the more you eat the more you toot, the more you toot the better you feel then you're ready for another meal," LOL Just wanted to add a little humor :o)
