In the UK, even without the kiddy fiddling, you would have needed to very determinedly avoid all media for a number of decades to not know who he was.

No. I'm a U.S. citizen, but of some British descent.

It sometimes surprises me to hear that other countries have creeps too. It just feels like an American thing somehow.

I'm English so obviously. I've known of him since I was a child, when he first started presenting Top of the Pops, a legendary TV programme on which I first saw The Rolling Stones, around 64 (or maybe it was Ready, Steady, Go), Jimi Hendrix, around 67 (I went berserk when I saw him), The Who, around 67, it was an incredible window into what was happening musically, which doesn't exist now.

That is only because we have more of them, mostly in Wash. DC

I recognized the name. It brought to mind a story of improper behavior towards kids, so I must have remembered him without really knowing. I wouldn't know his face though.

The name sounds familiar, and I correctly associated it with English popular music/television but I wouldn't have been able to get any more specific than that. I wouldn't have been able to identify him by his appearance. I didn't know anything about his charity work, his honours or the sexual abuse scandal that came to light after his death.

Yes, and I always thought he was a creep.
