Happy New Year! What do you think 2018 holds in store for you?

Perhaps you already know you will be changing jobs, or have reason to fear you will be forced to do so. Maybe you have an exciting holiday booked, or anticipate an unwanted journey. You may expect a personal achievement to come to fruition this year, or a personal failure to rear its ugly head.

The only definite plan is that I'll be getting my first tattoo (booked for February)

I have some hopes too, the biggest of which is that I'll get (and stay) pregnant. Had a miscarriage in 2017 and didn't realise how much I really wanted to start a family until then.

My formal exam result/qualification should finally come through. It should have been posted 10 days ago, so I shall be peeved if it doesn't arrive this week. I'll probably apply for a new job in a couple of months, but there will be a lot of competition and I may have to wait a bit longer to actually secure a post. If I get a new job, I will have to move house as it won't be in my current town and I hate moving house, so it won't necessarily be a terrible thing if I don't get one. I'm also having some health problems, and am waiting for a hospital appointment and some blood results. If my self-diagnosis is correct, then things may be a bit up in the air anyway. I did say that if I got a new job, I would go on a foreign holiday (my second ever) but the health thing may impact on that too.

2017 was a pretty crappy year for me. I'd really like 2018 to be much better.

On the fence about my summer job. Last summer was a good one but there are projects I want to get moving at home too.

I hope your health problems aren't bad, good luck.

I'm likely to travel. I'm supposed to give a paper at a conference in Finland, and I'm hoping we're going to build a family vacation around it. Other parts of my life, barring the unforeseen, should be more or less the same.

Yet another song that I despised when it was popular and thought I'd never have to hear again will be revived as a parody in a stupid advertisement. Other than that, I can't be too sure about anything.

If things go well at work (and as currently planned): two more raises, a new office of my very own, possibly some travel, a lot of new learning, training a new programming intern, tons more development on a program I'm writing, more client interaction.

If things go well at home (and as currently planned): more renovations (new flooring, painting, completion of current projects), some travel (we're talking about the pacific northwest or maybe to go on The Price is Right), my A1C will finally be right and I can start researching pumps, a tattoo of my dad's signature on my inner/upper arm, and my daughter will graduate.

It feels like a lot, but life seems to be going by faster and faster. I'm starting to feel like I need to pack it in. I'll be happy if half of these things happen.
