What do you do if everything seems to be going wrong?

Normally, everything goes relatively fine for you except for the usual day to day aggravations. You can handle these no problem. Then all of a sudden everything and I mean everything seems to go wrong. Your pet dies, you have to put a parent in a home, spouse loses their job, your business tanks and you deal with daily creditor calls etc etc etc. What do you do to try and get yourself through it?

Throw a fit first of all. I have to release that energy, like go outside and dig a hole to nowhere mumbling to myself. Then take a nice warm shower and cry. Then I put on some good music and write in my journal. Get a nice big hug from my girlfriend and go on.

My cat got sick recently, plus there was some other bad news floating around, so this just kind of happened to me. I mostly walked around in a daze, kind of shutdown and closed off. At one point, the phone rang, but I didn't feel like answering it. Oddly enough, I actually lost my appetite. I didn't sleep very well (not so strange for me). I lost my motivation to do stuff. But, I actually did a bunch of things I'd been putting off, to get my mind off things. I tried to play video games, but it sucked. I went for a walk around my house and took pictures of things. That helped me feel better.

I usually have myself a good cry and let out some of the emotions. Sometimes I've been so depressed that I just stay in bed. But that's infrequent. For the most part, I cry, and move on. Crap happens!

I do this! The best so far are Cats & Hilary and Jackie. I am guaranteed a good 30 minute sob session. I start crying about what I'm watching & then I start crying about my life & I just immerse myself in & cry. I feel so good after I cry. Then I take a nap. Ladder 49 would work.

But I NEVER drink out of emotion. If it's a special occasion I might have one drink, but never as a result of a negative emotion or state of mind. I have way too many alcoholics in the family genes to even think about it.

I separate the things that I can control from those that I can't. I work on the things that I can control, and I let those that I can't control run their course. The other thing is I try to not let crap affect me emotionally. That only scrambles your brian when you need it to be focused. After a heavy stress period has passed, then you can allow yourself to curl up in a fetal position and bawl. Works for me.

Do you mean you let everything run it's course, whether you can control it or not?

Earlier on, hypersky said this:

"I separate the things that I can control from those that I can't. I work on the things that I can control, and I let those that I can't control run their course. The other thing is I try to not let crap affect me emotionally. That only scrambles your brian when you need it to be focused. After a heavy stress period has passed, then you can allow yourself to curl up in a fetal position and bawl. Works for me."

I read that and thought about how a lot of times, I just let things happen, even if I can do something to stop it. When you said you avoid responsibilities, I was wondering if you do that too.

I usually start to fall apart and think 'aargh I can't take this', then all of a sudden something clicks in my head and I just go into practical mode and think of the steps I can take to get things back to normal. Sometimes someone says something that makes things seem better, or sometimes I'm just at that point where I have no choice - do something or have a nervous breakdown
