What would you donate to the SC silent auction?

If SC were organizing a silent auction and you were asked to provide a prize, what would you donate?

This may be an item (something you have around or could reasonably make or buy), a service (either provided by you or a gift card towards a company's service), or money.

It could be as small or as large as you like. Both traditional and very creative donations welcome!

**For those unfamiliar with silent auctions, they are a form of fundraiser in which prizes are donated, then packaged into groups of comparable value. These prizes are then displayed with a bag in front of each, typically at an event such as a BBQ or dance. People buy tickets and put them in the bags corresponding with the prizes they'd like to win. At the end of the event a ticket is drawn from each bag to determine the winners.

I'd donate some hand sewn things - I'm thinking maybe a beach pack (a couple large tote bags and a set of beach towels)

Depends - where are proceeds going towards?

Your description sounds more like a raffle to me. Isn't a silent auction one where people make bids of what they're willing to pay for an item? In the case of a silent auction, they're just written down on a piace of paper in front of each item, rather than being auctioned off out loud.

Anyway, I would donate a loaf of my homemade banana bread.

When I was looking up the definition (I was going to link to one) your description is what came up. But where I live what I described is called a silent auction and I knew no other word for it. A couple people have mentioned raffle now - that seems good, just not something I was familiar with. I've made note of it for my follow-up survey :)

Your description seemed like a cross between what I would call a raffle and a silent auction, really. In my experience, raffles don't usually involve choice of items--that sounds more like a silent auction. But the tickets are raffle-y.

check No

This reminds me of the time that Cleo (I think it was her) organised a thing where we sent a package around and added to it. It got lost somewhere along the way. I'm pretty sure that I either mailed it to or received it from Kristal Rose. It's all very foggy now.

I feel like I'm too late for this, but I will make some string dolls to contribute.

If I win this, I'm putting you to work. I have this hill that is like a jungle that I need cleared.

Oh! I forgot all about that. I was always so disappointed that I never got a chance to contribute. I wonder who kept it. I think there was also a disposable camera in there as well. Did you take a picture?

I still have the camera that was travelling round the UK. I posted it on to someone (Dino, I think) and it came back to me as they had left that address. Never managed to get anyone else's address to pass it on (the number of UK SCers never being very high). I think it's in my parents' attic. Must have been about 14 years ago. Was just a camera we were passing along though, no extras. I will have to try and hunt it out and see if the film can still be developed. Goodness knows what is on there...
