A climate question

If you had to choose between living in a place where it was freezing cold 11 months of the year or scorching heat 11 months of the year, which would you choose and why?

27Cold, you can always put on more clothes
13Hot, I'd rather bake than freeze
8Cold, I just like it more
4Cold, other reason, please explain
2Hot, duh!

I happen to love the cold. You can always put on more clothes to stay warm but if you're naked and still hot, that's a horrible feeling. Besides I like playing hockey outside and the colder the better. =)

Definitely colder. I love cold weather.

hrm... If I assume that it's no more dangerous to live in one place than the other (limited risk of freezing to death or dying from dehydration) it would be cold. I have a fast enough metabolism that I can adjust to cold easier. Although I play tennis better when it's too hot for everyone else. I'm not sure I have a preference.

Either way I'd probably really enjoy that one month in between the 11.

topper: sounds to me like your problem isn't environmental.

I can relax and be comfortable and still be very hot. I cannot be comfortable in temperatures below 5F (-15C) no matter what I do.

Hot and cold is a perception thing - my idea of cold is a LOT lower than everyone I know, and likewise I get hot much easier than they. On top of that I don't mind/sometimes like being what I consider cold anyway, so I'd certainly take the cold.

I get hot at about 17 c, and very hot at 20 (and this is from someone living in Australia :( ). Last time I went cross-country skiing I was wearing shorts, very thin overpants (so I wouldn't get wet) and a t-shirt and wasn't cold. I don't know what my lower limit is as it never gets below about -2 here (and even that is very very rare).

I marked 'Hot'. But there are two more important factors:
  • Do my friends live there too? This is why I live in Boston, where it is often cold.
  • Is it dry or humid? I'd choose Minnesota over Florida.

I prefer hot weather. I would pick a place by the sea that has scorching heat so that I could enjoy cooling breezes, coconut palms, and swimming!

If you asked me this a year or two ago, I would have said that I prefer cold. But, recently I've been learning to like hot too. I enjoyed the hot days of last summer and when I was in Aruba. I think I'm transitioning from liking cold to liking hot, but I'm not sure.

Well, it depends.
If I get to live with my SO, then cold, 'cuz both options make me equally unhappy but the cold makes him less unhappy than the hot.
Failing that, I'd rather live somewhere cold where everything is indoors and heated and well-insulated and I have a car than somewhere hot where everything is airconditioned and I have a car, but I'd rather live somewhere hot if I actually have to be outdoors a lot, particularly if there are beaches nearby.

topper - how many saunas do I have to have before it stops being a tease?

I would commit suicide rather than submit to either extreme....

Too much heat makes me feel unwell, so I'd choose the cold, which just makes me miserable. I'd rather be out and about in the cold than in intense heat, and at home I can always have the heating on.
