| juliw | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Nov-2001 1:19pm Thanks for posting the pictures of your money. It is really interesting to see. I especially like the 250 guilder note. |
| Maarten | (reply to juliw) posted 19-Nov-2001 1:28pm I'm going to miss those notes when we get the boring Euro. |
| Biggles | posted 19-Nov-2001 1:32pm Pounds Sterling. We have paper notes with a metallic strip and a watermark for £5, £10, £20 - probably others but I've never had that much money! Most of them are mainly brown - although one has some yellow on it. I think they're all similar sizes - I have a feeling the £5 is smaller than the others. We have gold, silver and copper coloured coins. Most are round but the 20p has 5 (??) sides and the 50p has 7 (??) sides. (Those are guesses, I'm sure others will be able to confirm or deny them!) |
| Biggles | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Nov-2001 1:33pm I want to have the Euro, but the notes are so ugly!!! |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 19-Nov-2001 1:34pm Just the usual U.S. currency (bills and coins). |
| Maarten | (reply to juliw) posted 19-Nov-2001 1:37pm Here the Euro notes as used per 01-01-2002:

| anoddoblivion | posted 19-Nov-2001 2:14pm American Dollars, ever color of round coins. If you count the silver dollar (Susan B. Anthony, I think) that is not in practical use anymore, it has eight sides. |
| Oscar | posted 19-Nov-2001 2:16pm I think we all know what American money looks like. |
| Cleo | posted 19-Nov-2001 2:41pm I wish I could scan So I can show you what the American currency looks like. |
| autumnlight | posted 19-Nov-2001 2:47pm British pounds. Notes that are all the same size, different colours, have a metal strip and a watermark. Silver coins are 5p and 10p. Coppers are 2p and 1p coins. Gold coins are the 1 pound coins. 2 pound coins are gold and silver. They are all round. 20p coins are 6 (? I think) sided and are silver and 50p coins I think have the same no of sides but are much bigger. |
| Cleo | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Nov-2001 2:50pm Gosh!!! Your currency are so colorful.I wish the United Stated had some colorful money too.I noticed that you didn't display any (1) one dollar bills.Does your country even use the one dollar denomination? The United States have increments of 1,5,10,20,50,100,500,1000.00.The one, five, ten, twenty are the ones most often used in everyday money transactions. |
| Cleo | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Nov-2001 3:03pm We also use Mickey money. But you can only use it in Disneyland,it comes in $5,$10,& $20 increments.I wish I could show you what the Mickey money looks like.Or do you already know? |
| Maarten | (reply to Cleo) posted 19-Nov-2001 3:07pm We don't pay with dollars. The bills showed are the bills we have. And we have coins of 5, 2.5 and 1 gulden and 5, 10 and 25 cents. |
| Jemmy | posted 19-Nov-2001 3:08pm I love Canadian money! It is all different colors and easy to see. American money is harder. When I was in the US, a friend of mine was talking o this guy and mentioned she was out of town. He asked her how she likes the states, etc. and she said it was great, except the money was ahrd to distinguish because it was all the same color, and he got all pissed off and said Well, it has the numbers on it, and left. |
| cpierson | posted 19-Nov-2001 3:37pm I checked Canadian dollars because that's my country of birth; I live in the States, though, so I use U.S. dollars. The survey isn't really clear on which counts as "my" country. |
| confetti | posted 19-Nov-2001 4:24pm Costa Rican colones. Gold-colored coins (they were silver-colored until about three years ago), 25 and 50 centimos (the smaller part of a colon) and in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 colones. They're cute. They have a little engraving of the ships that came to Costa Rica on the fourth Columbus voyage, with the stars for each of the provinces. Then for paper money, we have the beautiful 5 colon bill, which pictures country people some fifty years ago boarding a boat with their baskets full of coffee beans to sell them in the capital--it's completely in color. The one-hundred colon bill hardly is used anymore, it has an ex-president and in green. The five-hundred bill is pinkish-orange with a dead guy, the thousand-colon bill is red with another dead guy, the two-thousand bill has another dead guy and it's in white. The ten-thousand bill is the only one with a woman and it also features a shark. The five-thousand bill is the prettiest; in full color, with a toucan and some other nature-related stuff. |
| confetti | (reply to Jemmy) posted 19-Nov-2001 4:39pm I remember a coin with a bear on it. Canadian money is so cute. |
| natsim | posted 19-Nov-2001 5:01pm Plastic brightly coloured happy notes of all different sizes and colours. I like Australian money. |
| natsim | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Nov-2001 5:02pm Hey! Your money is as pretty as ours! |
| jkiehart | posted 19-Nov-2001 6:50pm US Dollar, and compared to other countries, it's pretty bland. And you have to pay attention not to get the 20's and the 50's confused. Not that I come across those very often. |
| jettles | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Nov-2001 7:49pm wow, that is really beautiful!!! us dollars are rather boring! |
| Zang | posted 19-Nov-2001 8:11pm Canadian currency. We have bills in the following denominations in current use: $5(blue), $10(purple), $20(green), $50(red), $100(brown). There are also supposed to be $1000 bills, but I've never seen one. Coins are all round or have so many sides that they look pretty damn round. We have pennies (copper), nickels, dimes, and quarters (all silver coloured), loonies (brass coloured), and toonies(a two part coin with brass coloured center and silver coloured outer ring). The coins are worth 1, 5, 10, 25, $1 and $2 respectively. I've got a loonie handy and I counted the sides. There are eleven. |
| Zang | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Nov-2001 8:16pm Your money is pretty! Probably the most attractive currency I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a bit. |
| Enheduanna | posted 19-Nov-2001 8:41pm US. I really don't think I need to describe it. |

| JakeD | posted 20-Nov-2001 3:12pm Well, NOW we use gold coins again, in the US. |
| Maarten | (reply to Zang) posted 20-Nov-2001 5:30pm Now that the mystery has been solved start collecting them! |
| Maarten | (reply to Wicksy) posted 20-Nov-2001 5:37pm Duuh! |
| Cleo | (reply to Maarten) posted 20-Nov-2001 8:23pm Oh so they're called bills?? Hummm.I still can't get over how beautiful & colorful they are. |
| Jemmy | (reply to confetti) posted 20-Nov-2001 9:11pm Yeah, the toonie. I don't like that, I think the two dollar bill was better. The bear is cute and all, but all that change gets really heavy, and I tend to spend more when I have change and don't have to break a bill! I like the colors though, it's pretty and makes me happy! |
| Wicksy | (reply to Maarten) posted 21-Nov-2001 4:31am Don't you mean |
| nasale | posted 21-Nov-2001 5:32pm We have pretty money-it's just not worth much. |

| kaleb777 | posted 24-Nov-2001 11:40am Australian Dollars, Plastic notes with clear plastic windows and each denomination a different colour and size. We have gold $1 and $2 coins, a 12 sided silver 50 cent coin, and round 20c, 10c, and 5c coins. We have no copper colored coins and no 1 or 2 cent coins. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Zang) posted 24-Nov-2001 11:49am I heard that the Canadians call their 1 and 2 dollar coins loonies and toonies on a show I saw on cable here (Australia) called "Ed's Night Party" out of Toronto. I think it's cool that you have a different money culture from the US. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Zang) posted 24-Nov-2001 11:54am Taking Zangs idea, Australian notes are plastic but the colours are (predominantly) $5 - purple, $10 - blue, $20 - red, $50 - yellow, $100 - bright green, and there's a grey coloured note too. I think it's the 500? Natsim, Harikrishna, do you know? |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Maarten) posted 24-Nov-2001 11:56am How do you paste pictures here? |
| Zang | (reply to kaleb777) posted 24-Nov-2001 2:10pm With Ed the sock? I never understood why they made him the sidekick. He should be the host. It is so much more appropriate to put the sock puppet behind the desk. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Zang) posted 24-Nov-2001 2:15pm You've seen it! I love that show! He should have been the host. I think the cigar made him more powerful. |
| Maarten | (reply to kaleb777) posted 24-Nov-2001 3:03pm Type: Between the " " you put the URL of the picture. |
| davethebrave371 | posted 25-Nov-2001 7:42pm I don't know what shape the coins are (they have more than four sides, I'll leave it at that, and some of them are basically round, but have grooves) and I don't know whether we have metal strips, clear plastic windows or water marks on our bills. I never pay attention to money. It would be like asking me what the brand name on my lined paper is, and how far apart the lines are. Money is just paper and metal that acquires goods to me. I don't really like it too much, but it is, unfortunately, necessary for some things. |
| lerojist | (reply to Maarten) posted 26-Nov-2001 2:13am Thank you Maarten for the display of monies. The money is pretty, and colorful. |
| Maarten | (reply to lerojist) posted 26-Nov-2001 12:25pm You're welcome. |
| skylark | posted 20-Dec-2001 3:47pm I can use the Finnish mark still for two months but the official currency will be Euro from January 1 on. I trust the Euro but it'll probably feel strange to have notes of different sizes in the beginning - the Finnish notes have all been the same size from 1986. |
| cuteasabutton | posted 17-Jan-2002 1:04am Coins with holes in them? |
| cuteasabutton | (reply to Maarten) posted 17-Jan-2002 1:05am Your money is *so* pretty..... *glug glug* |
| Maarten | (reply to cuteasabutton) posted 17-Jan-2002 6:31am was... we now have those ugly euros. The Swedes are quite upset, because on the coins their country looks like a limp dick! ![]() |
| cuteasabutton | (reply to Maarten) posted 17-Jan-2002 3:33pm lol Wow, it sure does! With the frank *and* the beans! So did you get to keep the old dollars or whatever you call them? Are the Euro all coins? |
