Before I became vegetarian I wasn't really keen on seafood. I ate sild on toast for dinner every now and then and that was nice. It was no great loss to give it up!
Cat food, sea food, cat food, sea food, cat food, sea food!!! Hee hee hee! lol |
Zang | | posted 11-Nov-2001 1:47pm |
Yes. I am particularly fond of shellfish. I could eat clams every day. I was a vegetarian for a couple of years back in the mid 80s. I started off very strict, no eggs, no fish etc. Eating meat again was a gradual process. First thing to go was eggs. I rationalised that that they weren't really meat, they were just "potential" chickens. Then came shellfish. Come on! Look at them. That doesn't look like an animal...the fact that I enjoyed eating those things may have had something to do with it too. |

Zang | | (reply to Biggles) posted 11-Nov-2001 1:50pm |
So do you heat that up somehow, or just dump it out of the tin? |
| Biggles | | (reply to Zang) posted 11-Nov-2001 2:00pm |
The sild? I spread it on toast then stuck it back under the grill for a bit.
Or were you talking about the cat food, sea food (hee hee hee)? |
| Matt | | posted 11-Nov-2001 2:55pm |
I love seafood, I could give up meat but seafood I couldnt live without. |
| Matt | | (reply to Biggles) posted 11-Nov-2001 2:55pm |
What is sild? |
| kaleb777 | | posted 11-Nov-2001 2:59pm |
It depends. I love crab, lobster, tuna and salmon, but can't stand shelfish. It doesn't look as though we should be eating stuff like oysters. I've always wondered how the first person to eat an oyster did it. They must have been very hungry. |
| Biggles | | (reply to Matt) posted 11-Nov-2001 3:00pm |
They're little oily fish - very similar to sardines. |
| kaleb777 | | (reply to Biggles) posted 11-Nov-2001 3:01pm |
Why do cats love fish when they hate water and probably wouldn't eat fish in the wild? |
| Biggles | | (reply to kaleb777) posted 11-Nov-2001 3:13pm |
You expect me just to know?? I'd never even thought about it! Some big cats like water. And maybe other cats just like to eat anything that smells strong. |
| anoddoblivion | | posted 11-Nov-2001 3:15pm |
Not really. I hate it when the food taste the way the beach smells. All salty and dirty and ocean watery and BLECK! I once had freshwater catfish from a resevour, and it was some of the best food I've tasted. But only once has it tasted clean like that. I'll eat it clean tasting all day long. |

like anchovies? |
| Biggles | | (reply to Matt) posted 11-Nov-2001 3:19pm |
I'm not that familar with anchovies, but from what I know of them, yes. |
| happyme | | posted 11-Nov-2001 3:22pm |
Mostly, yes. I like fish, shrimp, crab, lobster, scallops, calamari, etc. I've never tried oyster and never intend to. Oh yeah I love sushi. |

I love sea food. I cant really help it, my dad being a fisherman. We used to have a fish shop when I was little as well. I just had cod for my tea, actually. Yum! The best is going out on the boat with dad and getting some fresh skate and mackerel and coming back and eating them straight away. Awww, I wanna go on a fishing trip now! |
| juliw | | posted 11-Nov-2001 4:05pm |
Yes. I especially love lobster, crab legs, and shrimp cocktail. I have never tried steamed clams or mussels, and have no desire to. A restaurant near here makes a delicious pasta dish with a creamy sauce and langostinos (baby lobster tails) in it. |
| confetti | | posted 11-Nov-2001 4:34pm |
Lobster, when done right, can be delicious--but all the rest of seafood is disgusting to me. |
Zang | | (reply to Biggles) posted 11-Nov-2001 5:11pm |
Spread it? Like you kind of mash it up? Hmm...do you butter the toast first? I'm just curious. I'm quite familiar with that English "on toast" thing. When I was living in Leeds, we ate a lot of sausage and beans on toast. Being of English heritage, I grew up eating poached eggs on toast, creamed asparagus on toast etc.. I'm not familiar with this "sardines on toast" thing though. Sounds interesting. |

I love seafood.I eat just about everything that is sold in local markets,in the seafood section.I especially love shrimp & fresh Ahi tuna.If calamari is cooked in garlic & butter I love that too.Lobster is a bit tough.I find Alaskan King crab better than lobster anyday. Even had grilled turtle once.It was very tasty cept I'll never eat it again.I watched my dad kill it & BarBQ it right there at the beach, when I was a little girl. The sight of watching a turtle cry, while being killed is one that will be imprinted in my mind forever. I love the food surveys.Keep them coming. |

I always thought that prawns & shrimp was on in the same except the size. Is there a difference between the both of those??? Please fill me in.**scratches her head** |
| Cleo | | (reply to Biggles) posted 17-Nov-2001 11:19pm |
The "slid" do you mix it with something like mayonaise or something before spreading it on toast/bread?I'm thinking that it comes in a can like tuna in the USA.Or are the fishes intact, like sardines are,you know, with the head & tails & everything? Is it seasoned already??
Some of your British foods have strange names.**Scratches her head** |
| spidertea | | (reply to Cleo) posted 18-Nov-2001 12:50am |
Yes, it is meat because it is an animal. |
| Cleo | | (reply to spidertea) posted 18-Nov-2001 10:14am |
Ohhhhhhhhhhh,so you mix it with mayonaise or something close to that? |
| Biggles | | (reply to Cleo) posted 18-Nov-2001 10:31am |
The sild we got were in those tins that you use a key to roll the lids up. I think they were in tomato sauce - I don't remember if they had heads and tails. I just used to slop them straight on the toast the grill them again. |
| Cleo | | (reply to Biggles) posted 18-Nov-2001 3:30pm |
Ohhhhhhh,I think I may have seen some of those in our local markets here in California. My dad used to love the ones in tomato sauce.I don't much care for fish in a can, except for tuna, which is already cooked in the can while packaging. Uncooked tuna,is SASHIMI sliced thin & served on a bed of thinly sliced green cabbage. With a little dish of wasabi(green spicy hot mustard)I love that too. I love uncooked tuna, better than the ones in the can, used to make tuna sandwiches.Does the UK have tuna in the can also? You know like,"Chicken of the Sea"& "Starkist"tuna? |
| Biggles | | (reply to Cleo) posted 18-Nov-2001 3:35pm |
I'm sure we have tinned tuna. Not sure what brands though. I don't eat fish anymore. I don't think my mum ever buys fresh tuna - they have fresh salmon sometimes. My dad's boss goes fishing amd he'll sometimes bring a few salmon steaks over. I'm glad you didn't let your job kill you! Are you looking for something else yet? (What happened to the casino job?) |
| Cleo | | (reply to Biggles) posted 18-Nov-2001 3:46pm |
Mmmmmmmm I love salmon too. I haven't started looking for a job yet.I only quit Thursday(3 days ago),& I haven't had the time to catch my breath, nor check the news papers & the web. However,I do like looking for a job, bright & early on a Monday morning.Seems like a fresh start. You know?? But,as for the casino job,I can give them a call tomorrow morning & see,if anything pans out. They're due to open next spring,so I have a lot of time. But,I'm still curious to know if it's "yay or nay" (((((HUGS)))) Thanks for your concern for my health & well being I surely do appreciate that,Biggles. The knot in my knee & the shade of purple are diminishing. But it still hurts a little.Other than that I'm feeling much better, since I quit that job.Love ya Babe! |

Fresh starts are always appealing I've got to wait until after my exams for a change, but they're coming too quickly! I don't want to leave school - I'm happy (apart from the exams...) Has your doctor said anything new? I hope he/she is being nice to you! At least you can use your health as an excuse to get your family to do everything for you |

I bet!! How I wish I were still a teenager, attending high school again,& having my parents, take care of,all the bills. It seemed so much easier then. I just didn't realise, how good I had it,till I grew up,& moved out.Thing is,I was so eager to move out,& away from my parents rules, that I failed to see, what a blessing it was to be at home.I realise that now. My OBGYN hasn't gotten back to me yet & it's been two weeks now.I called last week Friday & they haven't returned my call.I'm gonna have to give them a tongue lashing tomorrow. I'll keep you posted tho on my biopsy results. As for my family doing everything for me,I have to get out my whip.Cause my little "BELL" isn't doing a thing.lol Perhaps I need a bigger bell. BTW what time is it in the UK right now? It's around 1:35pm in California. |

Life is easy when you're young. I just hope it doesn't get too hard! Doctors can forget how worried people can be Make sure you let them know! A bigger bell? How about Big Ben?? If you think it'll work I'll post it to you That is, if I can steal it from the Houses of Parliament! Um, right now it's 10:30pm but I think I'm getting back to you about an hour after you asked? Thtat would make an 8 hour difference which sounds about right. |

Heck if I know! Shrimp and prawns are basically the same thing, but it seems they tend to be prepared and served differently. I like shrimp cocktail (cold, of course) and I like prawns hot -- either sauteed or deep fried. Yum! |

I like all my seafood(lobster, calamari, crab, shrimp & even prawns with butter & garlic.)Mmmmmmmmmm.I haven't quite gotten used to eating shrimp cold yet.I prefer all my seafood cooked & hot except sashimi. Then again I like my tuna sanwiches cold. |

It's only 10:35am,Monday morning.This is sooooo cool.I just can't get over the fact,that I can chit-chat with someone,hours away,in a different country,& they can respond so quickly.Technology is amazing,simply amazing!! |

Me, studying? lol Actually, I'm just having a break after school before I get down to work. I have to work out what a chemical compound is from various bits of data I've been given - it doesn't look too easy! It's not due in until Wednesday but I'm trying to be more organised! Then there's the essays that I have to do........3 of the bums!!! And I have a test about respiration (in cells) on Friday. And another load of chemistry homework due in on Thursday (all about working out the pH of acids and bases using the concentrations). And I'm supposed to be working towards my Chemistry resit in January! Will the fun never end? lol |

In my sister's wedding I ate a lobster though. I don't know if he had eaten some better stuff then. |
