| anoddoblivion | posted 17-Oct-2001 12:04am I don't know. Maybe, I just don't remember. Not to my knowledge, at least. |
| jkiehart | posted 17-Oct-2001 12:08am Witnessed. My father's death. It was very surreal, very cool, very peaceful, very mystic. The mysticism started two weeks before he died. The whole process was very... odd. |
| jkiehart | posted 17-Oct-2001 12:09am If birth is a miracle, death should be considered one, as well. |
| Irene007 | posted 17-Oct-2001 1:44am Other. To me, twice have I experienced the cliché; "miracle of life". That's good enough for me... I'm truly blessed! Twice!! |
| Irene007 | (reply to jkiehart) posted 17-Oct-2001 1:59am Oh boy! Can I hear ya! There is nothing like the knowledge of impending death to put things into perspective. Sudden death is a tragedy to some and may be a catastrophe to others. My father was ill for 2 years, he took care of everything before he died and we knew he would leave us soon. We had some very good times through it all, the family was reunited, there was a closeness found. I wish the same for everyone that should loose a loved one... I wish that there were no tragedies, just natural deaths. |
| Wicksy | posted 17-Oct-2001 4:48am No |
| dora | posted 17-Oct-2001 10:40am I don't believe in miracles,I don't believe in God.Nonetheless I experienced "supernatural" events I just find them to be totally natural.I'm a skeptical-believer kind of person.Sounds complicated but that's just how I am.It would need more time and space for speaking about my views on this issue... |
| juliw | posted 17-Oct-2001 11:48am I have heard of others experiencing and/or witnessing miracles. I don't know whether or not I have experienced or witnessed a miracle. So many things have happened that seemed like more than coincidence. Maybe they weren't miracles, but I know God was intervening. For instance, when I had my stroke, things could have been a lot worse. |
| Biggles | posted 17-Oct-2001 12:31pm I don't know. Once I requested that something wasn't going to be on a history exam (an important exam) and decided that if it wasn't, it would be a miracle. It wasn't on the paper. I don't know who/what/ I requested it of and most likely it was just coincidence, but at the time I had an overwhelming feeling that it was miraculous. Hmm, that sounds silly now I read it back....... |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 17-Oct-2001 2:30pm uh, caused them? I reversed the compass directions in a section of my living room. I pray for major world events to occur and they do. I usually get my special requests for weather changes when travelling. I photograph apparitions of mary, i see particle fountains of all flavors, radios and birds and sirens are all in conversation with me, most of the objects and tv shows showing up in my life correspond with my current chapter of subject study. It's what people would call constant coincidence, and it 'is'.. Co - incidence. I read a religious book on miracles, and was so sad for it's readers since the sort of details that could keep them inspired for years are daily sorts of routine occurence in my life. They speak of 'a sign from God'.. it's ALL a sign from God folks. There is nothing else. |
| Oscar | posted 17-Oct-2001 3:45pm I think there are a lot of things that qualify as miracles. I personally feel that my life is a miracle. I beat 2 odds that were against me even before I took my first breath. My mom was using IUD when I was conceived. Then my father beat her during her pregnancy. She miscarried and they were going to do a D&C, but on a whim decided to do an ultrasound before the procedure and they found little ole me floatin around in there. |
| lara | posted 17-Oct-2001 5:12pm i am a miracle. |
| confetti | posted 17-Oct-2001 6:35pm No, unless you count the time I was at a neighbor's house and she unwrapped this chicken. The grease on the tinfoil it was wrapped in looked like the Virgin Mary. People all over town came over to kiss the tinfoil and pray. No crap. That's how it is here. It's a pretty sad time for the English language when you have to define the word 'miracle'. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to confetti) posted 17-Oct-2001 8:04pm wow, hilarious and interesting. the majority of miracles also have a scientific and sociological parallel explanation, hence several definitions could exist ranging from awesome to solely supernatural. The scientist devoid of faith can still lean on quantum probabilty for extreme cases like walking on water. |
| mandy | (reply to lara) posted 17-Oct-2001 10:39pm Don, King of the monkeeeeees agrees! |
| dlp34 | posted 18-Oct-2001 9:09am the miracle of childbirth |
| kaleb777 | posted 18-Oct-2001 3:03pm Of course not! |
| kaleb777 | (reply to dlp34) posted 18-Oct-2001 3:07pm According to the definition, that isn't a miracle, It's a natural occurrence, that has happened to all 6.2 billion of us who are alive now. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 18-Oct-2001 10:04pm What would constitute a miracle for you? |
| ASB | posted 19-Oct-2001 1:55am Maybe, who is to say really if it was a miracle or just dumb luck? |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 19-Oct-2001 4:33pm Walking on (liquid) water with no floatation devices etc. Changing water to wine (without putting that water through a winery!) Levitation by a human with no mechanical device in use. There are several things that would change my entire outlook on life if I saw them. I have never seen what I consider to be a miracle. Childbirth, planetary orbits, photosynthesis, are all amazing and incredible things. They are not miracles however. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 19-Oct-2001 11:44pm I suppose that section of my living room where I reversed magnetic north would constitute a miracle for you. I show it to my guests like I show my latest painting or perfume recipe. But my guests are of the sort that can say 'wow, cool' witnhout blinking an eye. Because of the intersecting spheres of belief driven existentialism, I think I could count on that anomaly disappearing upon your visit unless you either had a scientific means of explaining it or were willing to believe in such a thing. People get what they believe in. I can't say this enough to you. I'm glad you appreciate amazing and incredible things. To facilitate structured discussion with you, it becomes convenient to stereotype and generalize you into an aggregate of being built on some falsehoods, much like presuming nazi's abuse their children once you declare war on them. It would be much better to speak in full acceptance of a person, but e-chat is conducive to wearing blinders while navigating a maze of abstract conceptions. Those non-miraculous delights you speak of take on the nature of miracle in the context of individual lives. A child is no miracle to somene who would have it aborted, but it would be to someone who much desired one yet thought themself sterile. For me, the greatest miracle was seeing that gods hand was in everything and had a personal relationship to me. Although that did not negate existing physics, it added an additional realm of simultaneous physics which I think you would consider to be a miracle as well. It would be nice to correlate in a survey (of larger scope than SC) whethar those experiencing true miracles were willing to believe first, as I suspect is the case. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 20-Oct-2001 2:04am Don't you think God is behind science and physics and bases averything in creation on some type of logic and law? I can see some nut job under your floor with a huge magnet trying to fudge with you BTW, I answered another reply of yours about karma where you noted you had experienced "reverse karma" To me, that disproves the notion of karma. Karma is therefore a euphemism for "crap happens", be it good or bad crap. I lost everything I wrote in that reply when I accidently hit ALT then closed the window. I'm sure you'll read something into that event |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 20-Oct-2001 6:24am If everywhere I went, some nut-job or another was randomly following me around with a huge magnet or whatever it took to cater to my conception of my personal universe, I would no less consider it a divine blessing. There are deeper laws that exist in the moment which relate any person to their environment. I was hoping to explain them, but first i wanted you to witness them without understanding. I just lost all my back-up files a couple hours ago (probably about the same time.) Though, yes, i read more. It's not just 'crap happens', it's more like 'the crap you are thinking about just happens'. Adopt with a passion a new subject matter, like magnets or something, and watch what happens. TV ads will sell magnets, your friends will give you magnets, the newspaper articles you come across will be about bullet trains employing magnets. Try it! Pick a subject of rare but not absolutely remote frequency, and live and breathe it with joy and enthusiasm, and rather than look for statistical probabilities, look open-mindedly to see your life become filled with this subject. |
| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 20-Oct-2001 3:26pm Don't you think the magnet think is sort of like saying don't think about a pink hippo? If you think about something, everything to do with that subject will stand out to you, although there is no increase in ads about magnets at all. You are just looking for them now. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 20-Oct-2001 4:22pm In the movie a few hours ago, your example was a pink butterfly, but same argument. Can't you see that I expected that argument from you anyhow? Pink hippos and magnets it is then. Do I win if a neighbor gives you a pink hippo refrigerator magnet? |

| kaleb777 | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 21-Oct-2001 4:11pm I'll concede |
| natsim | posted 22-Oct-2001 3:02am I have witnessed events that I can't explain - healings that the doctors could not explain, and while I hesitate to believe in miracles, it's hard to explain them in any other way. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to kaleb777) posted 22-Oct-2001 4:34am I told one fellow that he could have birds appear to wake him every morning instead of an alarm clock. That's been his now for two months, but it was still a failure; He attributes it to me when I was trying to demonstrate that he was so empowered. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to natsim) posted 22-Oct-2001 4:51am I had an 8mm slipped disc that was making my legs go numb (sciatica) and forcing me to crawl from room to room in tears and spend 10 minutes to navigate out of bed. The doctors said to expect no improvement. I asked for a miracle recovery and was back to rock climbing and queen of the dance floor within a couple months, starting with bicycling out to a fireworks show to go cheerleading. I had a knee with torn ligaments go out but instantly reversed that one out of necessity to live bicycle camping for the next few months with about 160 lb.s (72kg?) of gear. I had gray hair coming in a decade ago but reversed that one too. I plan to live to at least 120 without medical intervention. When I first decided to change gender, I immediately started to grow breasts without medical explanation. The doctors gave me horror stories so i reversed it to be safe. Alas, now I seem to need hormones to keep it up now. ..the cost of returning a gift with distrust i suppose. I wouldn't have expected you to hesitate in that department. |
| duh74 | posted 22-Oct-2001 1:21pm Not only have I experienced a miracle . . . I have seen others receive miracles. My left leg used to be shorter than my right leg and at a church service I was prayed for. This guy held out both of my legs, noticeably different in length, and had me pray. While I was praying my left knee felt like there was hot water on the inside of it. I opened my eyes and my leg had grown!!! God is so amazing. I have seen and heard so many miraculous testimonies that they are too numerous to count. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever!!! God gets all the credit. |
| duh74 | (reply to Oscar) posted 22-Oct-2001 1:31pm That is so awesome!!! |
| natsim | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 22-Oct-2001 7:06pm I only hesitate because I'm trained as a scientist to be sceptical. I'm also probably far too wary of becoming overly religious. I think the control you have over your body is incredible! |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to natsim) posted 22-Oct-2001 7:25pm Science should make you objective, not sceptical. If you find two simultaneous causes for a phenomenon, you do not have to rule one out. |
| lerojist | posted 22-Oct-2001 7:38pm I don't know if these experiences are miracles, or just plain luck. I have a couple experiences, I've been told I was damn lucky. One experience was, my husband and I were driving on a freeway that had no middle barriers. It was a four lane highway, two lanes going each way. A SUV in front of us had what looked to be a surf board or small canoe type boat fly off the top of their vehicles it was airborne and I had to swerve into another lane. I went over into the oncoming lanes of this road. I kept driving in the oncoming traffic side, when my husband said "move over, move over". Just as I moved over a whole stream of oncoming cars came up. My husband told me, "you must have had an angel with you." By rights that road is well travelled. For a few moments there was no traffic. I think it just wasn't my husbands or my time to go. The second incident was I was driving down the freeway, and a two tank truck decided to move into my lane trying to avoid another large truck entering the freeway. I tried to veer to the left. The truck turned my vehicle in a complete circle, and at one point part of my vehicle was under the truck (so the witnesses said). I kept my eyes closed, and just screamed. I ended up in a utility lane. It was a miracle in a way because there was no utility lane up to that point on the freeway. The police officer said most cases such as this, the people don't survive. Again, I was lucky. Of course, I had a big car (Mercury Grand Marquis)which helped my survival. |
| lerojist | posted 22-Oct-2001 7:45pm Oscar's story is a miracle. His story reminds me of a case when I worked for a local acute hospital in the newborn nursery. There was a baby girl that the mother had tried to abort three (3) times, to no avail. The parents didn't want the baby obviously. The baby miraculously survived, was born and immediately adopted. How sad for the parents, the baby girl was so beautiful, what a loss for them. |

| Wookiewoman | posted 24-Oct-2001 11:21am I got to watch my best friend bring her little baby into this world. Birth is the greatest miracle of all. |
| lerojist | (reply to Biggles) posted 25-Oct-2001 1:33pm Thank you for letting me know. I know many men and woman sometimes have the names of the opposite gender. OR, are you joshing me? |
| Biggles | (reply to lerojist) posted 25-Oct-2001 1:36pm Joshing? lol No, Oscar is really female! I don't think it's her real name though. I have the username of a man too...... |
| lerojist | (reply to Biggles) posted 25-Oct-2001 1:44pm Biggles, why must you have a username of a man? Being a woman is wonderful. Do you feel vulnerable using a username of a woman? Not meant as an insult! |
| Biggles | (reply to lerojist) posted 25-Oct-2001 1:46pm Oh no! When I first came on the net I tried a whole variety of usernames - most of them had already been taken. By the time I got to Biggles I was bored of trying new ones so I stuck with it (but had to add the 286) - that's been my net name ever since. Besides, Biggles is one of my heroes |

| dark_chylde | posted 2-Nov-2001 12:08am My friend got hit by a car.the car at the time was going at least 30 mph. by the time it was able to screach to a stop, the tred marks were seventeen feet long. my friend flew into the air when she was hit, flipped over and landed on her head. we had heard several loud cracks when the car hit her. this probibly sounds like an average car accident, right? well heres the miricle. she was fine. she had a bump on her head, her pants were ripped, she was almost completely scratched up, with several large bruses. the crack we heard was the head light cover breaking against her legs. my friend is very spiritual and has strong conections to the wind. she describe after the fact, that there was a sudden guest of wind as the car came, causing her to step back at the exact moment the car would've hit, reducing the blow. for all those things to add up, you have to think it's a miracle |

| SLAMIN | posted 9-Nov-2001 6:58am when I was 5y.o. I drowned at a church picnic. 2 Doctors at the picnic tried to revive me , after about 25 minutes of no breathing or heart beat they tearfully declared me dead to my parents. Some minutes later 2 students walked past and asked if they could have a go at reviving me . To cut a long story short I spent 6 weeks in hospital where my parents were told almost daily that I would not make it through the night. I am now 38 with 2 magnificent daughters who have learnt to swim at an early age !! |
