| nasale | posted 16-Sep-2001 11:11am My kids and grandkids are probably sick and tired of hearing me say that the song they are listening to is a remake that came out in the sixties and the original was much better. My grandkids think I'm lying because nobody in my age bracket could have that much talent. Then again, I remember thinking that my father must have been soused again when I was a kid listening to the Righteous Brothers sing 'Ebb Tide' and my father informed me that it was from HIS era. And on it goes..... |
| Biggles | posted 16-Sep-2001 12:45pm lol lol I'm too young - but I doubt I ever will, I'm not keen on music. I'm just not fussed....... |
| confetti | posted 16-Sep-2001 1:02pm I'm not old enough, supposedly, but sometimes I think I do have symptoms (this survey is so hilarious!). You should see my Madonna 80s collection. I have everything she's ever done. |
| Jemmy | posted 16-Sep-2001 1:13pm No, and I doubt I'm old enough, I'm only 15. |
| LindaH | posted 16-Sep-2001 1:58pm I don't buy music very much anymore. I'm not stuck on my old albums, BUT I do criticize songs with too much cussing or no tune. I can't stand hearing "music" that doesn't have a proper tune. |
| icurok | posted 16-Sep-2001 5:25pm My mum does with a vengeance. I was probably too young to notice at the time, but I think it got to her somewhere in the early 80's. Elton John, Phil Collins and Kate Bush - and she thinks she has broad musical tastes. My dad on the other hand is my absolute hero when it comes to music. Although he listens to a lot of classical music, and loves the blues, he has Korn and Slipknot in his CD collection (we actually coined the phrase together one drunken night to explain why all the people his age that he worked with couldn't tell Britney Spears from Missy Elliot). I'm starting to notice symptoms in myself, like the fact that I think Muse aren't quite as good as Radiohead and that Limp Bizkit and all their clones are not quite as good as Rage Against the Machine used to be, but I still follow music, still go to festivals, and .. well.. well just look at my CD collection ferchrissakes!!! We also have a theory that a reverse musical time warp syndrome exists that only afflicts teenagers. The symptoms are that the sufferer has an almost total inability to accept that pop music existed before they were born. I've had arguments with my SO's 15yr old sister about whether "Respect" by Wheatus is a cover version or not! |
| Cleo | posted 16-Sep-2001 5:32pm At a Music Time Warp Anonymous meeting..... Hi my name is Cleo & I need help! **clapping, clapping** Welcome !!! |
| jettles | posted 16-Sep-2001 5:39pm lol lol lol lol lol maybe this is what i have!!!!! |
| juliw | posted 16-Sep-2001 5:48pm Why, in my day, we sang about things that were really important like the Viet Nam War. And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for? Don't aske me. I don't give a damn. Next stop Is Viet Nam. Now, every other word is f***, and it's no wonder the world is going to Hell in a hand basket. |
| juliw | posted 16-Sep-2001 5:53pm I was being facetious. But I do have to say the sixties produced the best music ever! Still, I like a lot of new stuff. |
| Iseult | (reply to icurok) posted 16-Sep-2001 6:16pm Cool survey |
| Cleo | (reply to juliw) posted 16-Sep-2001 6:38pm I agree with you on both counts..... I can't stand (so called music) with nothing but cussing through the whole thing. It's like nails on a chalk board.... |
| dora | posted 16-Sep-2001 7:10pm There's the other syndrome...when you can't recognise old music (music made before you were born)as good even if it is.It's a syndrome striking young people often, and their little sad minds can't bear nothing done before Offspring. I'm not one of those, and I don't suffer from Music Time-Warp syndrome either and will never do! I LOVE music |
| callen610 | posted 16-Sep-2001 8:09pm Yes, I "suffer". |
| jkiehart | posted 16-Sep-2001 8:18pm Do I?? Kids today with their rap music and boy bands... They don't know music! And I was buying Moby CDs years and years ago, too, you whippersnappers! If survey ratings went to "great" I would have picked that! |
| Oscar | posted 16-Sep-2001 9:05pm Not yet at least. |
| Matt | (reply to jkiehart) posted 16-Sep-2001 9:15pm Have you ever seen him live? I love Moby |
| jkiehart | (reply to Matt) posted 16-Sep-2001 9:35pm Sure haven't! You know what? Maybe, oh, three months ago, a friend of mine was at a Loft Party in Brooklyn, and there, sitting on the couch just like anyone else? Moby! And she said to herself, "Hey, I'm at a party and Moby's sitting on the couch!" Cool! |
| Matt | (reply to jkiehart) posted 16-Sep-2001 11:20pm I went to his show last October, he was really great on stage. There was a lot of interaction with the crowd |
| HareKrishna | posted 16-Sep-2001 11:48pm I don't know |
| SueBee | posted 16-Sep-2001 11:59pm I'm not a full-time sufferer. I seem to fade in and out of it. I've always known what I like and what I don't like, and it's not always the popular choice! |
| natsim | posted 17-Sep-2001 12:13am I'm not a sufferer, but live in constant fear of becoming one! It scares me when I enjoy music on a "Hits of the 70s, 80s, and 90s" type of radio station!! |
| anoddoblivion | posted 17-Sep-2001 1:01am This is the biggest load of BS survey I think I've seen in a while. Nope, never had time whatever. |
| juliw | (reply to Cleo) posted 17-Sep-2001 11:14am Yep, it annoys me, too. And to think people once made a big deal of the Beatles saying, "I Want To Hold Your Hand"! |
| Maarten | posted 17-Sep-2001 11:57am No, I hear tons of good new music (Placebo, The Strokes, Krezip, Das Pop...). Great survey, btw! |
| icurok | (reply to Maarten) posted 17-Sep-2001 12:01pm I saw Placebo at V2001. They were awesome. "Pure Morning" was a highlight. "A friend in need's a friend indeed, a friend with weed is better". So true. I've been trying to listen to the Strokes but no one i listen to seems to be giving them airplay. Have you got "Is this it?" yet? |
| Maarten | (reply to icurok) posted 17-Sep-2001 12:07pm Yep, got their CD. They listened very well to The Velvet Underground. |
| icurok | posted 17-Sep-2001 12:26pm Yes, I heard that they'd been influenced by Velvet Underground. I have a few things I want to get from cdwow.com, I think I'll add the Strokes to that list. Thanks for the recommendation! |
| autumnlight | (reply to icurok) posted 17-Sep-2001 1:04pm Great survey! |
| Cleo | (reply to juliw) posted 17-Sep-2001 2:00pm lol lol I love the Beatles....always will.Did you hear about George being sick & all. |
| juliw | (reply to Cleo) posted 17-Sep-2001 2:04pm I love The Beatles, too. Always have, always will. I did hear something about George Harrison about being sick. While I was in the hospital, someone told me that he had cancer. I just asked my Mom, and she said she heard later that George Harrison said that was just a false rumor. So, I hope he truly is okay. |
| Cleo | (reply to juliw) posted 17-Sep-2001 2:08pm Yeah me too!!! He wasn't my favorite Beatle but I still care.((HUGS)) to your mom for me. |
| Biggles | (reply to Cleo) posted 17-Sep-2001 2:36pm lol lol lol Maybe you should sponsor some of these other MT-WS sufferers! |
| kaleb777 | posted 17-Sep-2001 4:55pm I like any good music. It doesn't matter when it was released. |
| juliw | (reply to Cleo) posted 17-Sep-2001 5:51pm Paul was my favorite. But I still hope George is okay. |
| seven | posted 17-Sep-2001 8:56pm Now that I know there are others, how do I join the support group? |
| Zang | posted 18-Sep-2001 12:59am Not much. Maybe a little. I think I have a certain appreciation for the "progenitors of the form", that only comes with historical perspective, but I don't think that it disallows a true appreciation of contemporary music...harumpf harumpf... |
| icurok | (reply to autumnlight) posted 18-Sep-2001 3:15am Well.. you would say that |
| autumnlight | (reply to icurok) posted 18-Sep-2001 6:44am I've got Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz. I love the song New Born from Origin of Symmetry. Yay, someone with a good taste in music!Except for Radiohead of course |
| Cleo | (reply to Biggles) posted 18-Sep-2001 8:56pm Yeah!! Maybe open up our own website.Might be really interesting. Mailed your stuff yesterday.Get this....they asked if I wanted your package to go by air mail.. Duh!!! No,by slow boat to Great Britian?! I could have their job. |
| Maarten | (reply to icurok) posted 19-Sep-2001 5:25am Do you have ICQ? I could send you some songs if you want. |
| Biggles | (reply to Cleo) posted 19-Sep-2001 12:34pm We should start an SC addicts anonymous! I'd have to join |
| juliw | (reply to Biggles) posted 19-Sep-2001 2:00pm I'd have to join, too! |
| Biggles | (reply to juliw) posted 19-Sep-2001 2:06pm I think we'd all have to join! lol |
| icurok | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Sep-2001 2:08pm Thanks, much appreciated I don't have ICQ, but I can get if that's how you prefer to send files. What sort of stuff did you have in mind? |
| juliw | (reply to Biggles) posted 19-Sep-2001 2:08pm Well, I just went and created a new survey asking people if they would have to join. I hope it passes, so we can find out! |
| Biggles | (reply to juliw) posted 19-Sep-2001 2:14pm It's a cool survey - I already voted it reasonable |
| juliw | (reply to Biggles) posted 19-Sep-2001 6:34pm Thanks! |
| Maarten | (reply to icurok) posted 19-Sep-2001 10:11pm If your host can handle it, I could send it by e-mail. |
| zyxw9876us | posted 20-Sep-2001 12:04am I ace music trivia questions from 1984-1992 (8th grade to junior in college) beyond that, no clue. |
| Cleo | (reply to Biggles) posted 20-Sep-2001 1:05pm lol lol lol lol That's a good one! |

| hypersky | posted 30-Sep-2001 10:54pm If hating rap qualifies as Music Time Warp Syndrome, count me as one of the afflicted. There are some very solid new acts today (Creed, Nelly Furtado, Dido to name just three), but they are the exception to the rule. In a world dominated by Britney Spears, turgid boy bands, illiterate gangstas and that anorexic Christina Aguilera, it's nice to know there are still real artists with something to say. |
| iMorpheus | posted 1-Oct-2001 9:22am I may need to attend a 12-step program. |
| Wicksy | posted 2-Oct-2001 9:52am I think people that suffer from this disease obviously have no real musical knowledge and must have some sort of egotistical problem (* I am important and everything not created in my era sucks*) I think they need to claw out of their time warp and enter the real world ps: I am pissed off today for no reason and am speaking my mind irregardless of the consequences |
| anonymous | posted 2-Oct-2001 10:14am I like all kinds of music even the stuff of today. I listen to rap oldies country |
| Wicksy | (reply to icurok) posted 5-Oct-2001 3:45am Well done. This survey is heading towards being one of top 5 highest ranked surveys of all time. |
| Devarajaran | posted 7-Oct-2001 7:06pm *Clutches head in hands and sobs* I can't listen to anything but Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and J. S. Bach! :P |
| Cleo | (reply to Devarajaran) posted 7-Oct-2001 8:07pm My gosh!!!! Just how old ARE you, anyway??? |
| Biggles | (reply to Devarajaran) posted 8-Oct-2001 4:57pm Hopefully not old enough to remember Bach first time around....... |
| roozle | posted 14-Oct-2001 11:47am Sometimes I want to hear the music I liked in high school or college, but the best thing is to discover new music to enjoy. And some of that old music I'd be happy to never hear again, the percentage of really good stuff to dreck remains pretty constant over time. I don't buy that much music, so it's hard to really tell from my CD collection. |
| Cain | posted 15-Oct-2001 7:55am Even though I'm not old enough, I don't think I will either. I'm dedicated to my music. |
| sacamaro | posted 1-Nov-2001 1:03pm icurok has expanded my musical tastes since we met. I think I'm cured! |
| Wookiewoman | posted 9-Nov-2001 4:27pm I'm not one but my step-mom is. |
| Monkey_Toes69 | posted 15-Nov-2001 10:51am Good point. Just think about it Slipknot Korn and Britney Spears will be the oldies soon. Lol. |
| Dino | posted 6-Dec-2001 7:21am Yep. I guess I am. Never thought I would but it got to me eventually. |
| anonymous | posted 18-Dec-2001 12:16pm Good survey |
| icurok | (reply to anonymous) posted 21-Dec-2001 2:50pm Why did you feel the need to say that anonymously |
| crocodile_mile | posted 28-Dec-2001 4:43pm i'm 20 and it's hit me early in life. but that's because music DOES suck now. and not because it's too loud. fact is, most of it isnt loud ENOUGH. not even the nu metal bands. |
| rubylillysue | posted 4-Nov-2007 10:59am Yes that's me. i don't like music after the 80's |
