| emily | posted 22-Aug-1998 8:17am My irc nick is _mom. I know, I know.....it was a panic thing. I was setting it up and all of a sudden it asked for a nickname. It seems to make people think they can come to me if they need someone to talk to (which isn't always true). I've heard some very interesting stories. Unfortunately it also attracts some creeps who send me messages referring to me as "Mommy". I've also had my share of kids (as young as 12) who tell me they thinks moms are hot and proceed to try to shock me. |
| romkey | posted 22-Aug-1998 9:48am "John". It's not much of a nickname. |

| jjg | posted 22-Aug-1998 6:41pm Jim. No one ever wanted to call me "Lord Saviour." |
| phi | posted 22-Aug-1998 7:45pm I use my given name and a short version of my given name and my survey central handle and that's it. |
| anonymous | posted 24-Aug-1998 6:53am I can't reveal my secret identity. |
| dpolicar | posted 24-Aug-1998 9:05am I'm "dpolicar" everywhere electronically. In person I'm "dave" to most, "davey" to my boss (which most people can't get away with but from her it's funny), and "davidito" to my family (which I loathe, but it's family, whaddayagonnado?). There was a phase of my life where I went by "wolf," I no longer do but some folks who knew me Back in the Day still call me that. |

| Jody | posted 24-Aug-1998 1:31pm uh.. Jody is my nickname. My real name is Judith, which looks good and official on paper, but I'll never answer to it. bill - I think the smileys are cute. But make them green to go with the overall SC color scheme! |
| jonas | posted 24-Aug-1998 1:35pm When I first started BBSing at the tender age of 11, I made up for my insecurities by calling myself "Marauder" and acting tough. I soon got over it though and have gone by my name ever since. I sometimes use the old handle again just for grins. My family calls me nu-noo. |
| lizzie | posted 24-Aug-1998 2:01pm Liz is my real life nickname, although a lot of people call me lizzie now. At work they call me Queen or Queenie, or many variations thereof (queenster, little queenie, etc.) My old IRC nickname was Venus, but I don't go by that anymore. |
| steve | posted 24-Aug-1998 2:43pm I have never had a real nickname. I have been "Stephen" when there was another "Steve" in my class. Similarly, there were two "Steve"s in my Spanish class, and the first one got Esteban (we all had to pick Spanish names; it wasn't MY idea.) so I picked Guillermo. (Just liked the sound of it.) Tom has an insufferably cute pet name for me that makes me just *melt*, and I'm not going to tell you what it is. *** Obnoxious, yes, but no more so than the : and ) combo. |
| eris | posted 24-Aug-1998 7:28pm Now, this is where one really wants to be anonymous |

| lelle | posted 24-Aug-1998 11:02pm None really, except my name (and the pet name my husband and I use). |
| anonymous | posted 25-Aug-1998 2:53pm I used to go by "Skipper." This was a name given to me by some younger folks. I squelched usage once I could do it w/o hurting them. |
| lisashea | posted 25-Aug-1998 3:30pm That's pretty much it - lshea and lisashea. It makes it easy for me to remember who I am across various systems :) "In the Old Days" of bulletin boards, I was "Nyssa", the character from Dr. Who. (comment removed :) ) Milktree, it's |
| gilly | posted 26-Aug-1998 9:40am None, really. My real name is Gilana, but I've always gone by Gilly in just about every environment, except the SCA where I finally used Gilana. Oh, and I was "Gilcups" (from the Monty Python sketch about a jury doing charades) to a select group of friends in college for a short time. |
| milktree | posted 26-Aug-1998 10:05am Yay Bill! Whoo Hoo! :) :( :0 :p ;) :D ;P |
| reality | posted 26-Aug-1998 10:32am do I go by? hmmm.. shoot.. all are former, my real name is odd enough that it doesn't need shortening or rearrangement. I still sometimes go by reality IRL, I used to be known as paladin (former login ID at WPI), I was called silk for a while by a few of the people I played football with (college), high school I was called tank by some football players. and various people at various times have called me some variation of V or big V (V being the first letter of my real name) *bill: yeah.. put your foot down... (or should I have sent this to you in email?) |
| bill | posted 26-Aug-1998 8:39pm obnoxious? give me a break! *** steve/eris/everyone, I've decided to mostly ignore all the "I like this, I don't like that" comments about SC that I've been seeing a lot of recently. I'm not looking for your approval (anymore). I do what pleases me, if you don't like it, then you'll have to cope in some way (not my problem). I'm not sure how all this commenting about survey central elements got started (I do suspect that I am to blame partially by "asking for it" in some way). Still, it's getting annoying to me and I wish you all would just stop doing it. If you want to make a comment about Survey Central, send me email bill@surveycentral.org - but, I ask you: please don't put comments about SC in your comments for random surveys. * Atzilut calling something obnoxious, isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black? |
| jettles | posted 27-Aug-1998 8:32am none |
| jer | posted 27-Aug-1998 2:51pm ummm... 'jer' .. oh, besides that... |
| Atzilut | posted 28-Aug-1998 1:17am my given name is harold, everyone (who values their life) calls me 'h' I go by Smirkking on IRC/EFNET, I sign mail "Miss Jackie h" when I'm feeling glamourous my "soul name" when I'd fallen in with some crypto-pagans in college was "Aralean" the name of the alternate self in that same rubric was "Atelain" -- that's about it. the smileys obnoxious. And if you've decided to ignore it, then what's the issue? well I can see I'm no longer needed/wanted here. Fudge you all. |

| aquawolfy | posted 24-Apr-2008 4:17pm I have a bunch of nicknames that aren't offensive to me at all. I actually kind of like a few of them: Turtle, Jess, Jessie, Hippie, Brook, and Captain to name a few..... =) |
