| jettles | posted 4-Sep-2001 8:58pm is a-ha take on me, the one that they go into the comic strip?? if so, i really liked that one the most of any in the 80's. i also really like cyndi lauper's girls just want to have fun! |
| JoeSchmoe2003 | posted 4-Sep-2001 10:02pm Take on Me by a-ha is my all-time favorite music video. It's just so good, Steve Barron had a great idea with the video and I like Steve Barron. He also directed "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson and "Don't You Want Me" by the Human League. |
| natsim | posted 4-Sep-2001 10:04pm This was really hard to separate the video from the song. It was difficult choice between "Cry" and "Sledgehammer", but I went for "Sledgehammer"!! |
| Matt | posted 4-Sep-2001 10:22pm Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It |
| LindaH | (reply to natsim) posted 4-Sep-2001 10:31pm I thought of Sledgehammer before I read the choices. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 4-Sep-2001 11:38pm I like quite a few on the list, but my favorite has to be A-Ha's Take Me on (Take on Me). Looks like someone was watching VH-1's top 80 of the 80's over the Labor Day weekend. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to jettles) posted 4-Sep-2001 11:39pm That's the one alright! |
| JoeSchmoe2003 | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 4-Sep-2001 11:51pm You're correct, I did watch it, and that's how I got the idea for this survey. It was incorrect though, Take on Me is definitely the best 80s video, not Billie Jean like they said. |
| natsim | (reply to LindaH) posted 5-Sep-2001 12:01am You are so cool! |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to JoeSchmoe2003) posted 5-Sep-2001 12:09am I like both Billie Jean and Take on Me, but there is just something about the beat of Take on Me that appeals to me more. |
| jkiehart | posted 5-Sep-2001 4:05am "Beat It," Michael Jackson. I'm not hearing arguments on this one. |
| jkiehart | posted 5-Sep-2001 4:07am Very surprised that so many people have so far picked the gross aha video. |
| Irene007 | posted 5-Sep-2001 7:51am Thriller was the best. I don't even care for Michael Jackson but that video was great!! |
| Zang | posted 5-Sep-2001 9:07am I'm glad there were options, because there are far too many for me to call up from memory. Of the ones on the list, I picked the Robert Palmer. I can't remember the title of the song, but I assume this is the one that has been lampooned so many times. Some Canadian C&W singer did a good spoof of it recently. |
| confetti | posted 5-Sep-2001 11:10am I've seen them all, love them all. The eighties were interesting for their saturation of tackiness and glitter. It is so incredibly hard for me to pick one. Oh! I remember one that should be on your list-- "Wake me up before you go-go", WHAM! (I so LOVE the shorts!) Okay. The best ones are "Jack and Diane", "White Wedding" (I crack up whenever I see that coffin) and "Material Girl". |
| Biggles | posted 5-Sep-2001 11:41am I made a comment on this survey - where's it gone??? |
| autumnlight | posted 5-Sep-2001 12:15pm I let my mum answer this one for me cos I cant remember most of these! |
| Oscar | posted 5-Sep-2001 1:41pm I don't know |
| Jemmy | posted 5-Sep-2001 3:45pm I like Janet Jackson and Madonna, but I have to go with anything Whitney Houston did. |
| Jemmy | posted 5-Sep-2001 3:46pm Oh, video! In that case, I really don't know. I haven't seen many 80s music videos. |
| Maarten | posted 5-Sep-2001 7:23pm This survey sucks. Weezer's song <http://www.weezer.com/news>'Buddy Holly' is from 1994. |
| anoddoblivion | posted 5-Sep-2001 8:54pm I haven't seen any of these, maybe passing the TV and it was on, but I know that supposedly Micheal Jackson's video "Thriller" is arguably the best music video ever, and to top it off, the song was considered on of the greatest as well, so I'll pick that one. |
| ASexyBabe | posted 5-Sep-2001 10:56pm I thought been caught stealing by hmmm who did that? I thought that was the best I am pretty sure it was in the 80's |
| JoeSchmoe2003 | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 6-Sep-2001 12:28am "Been Caught Stealing" was by Jane's Addiction, and it was from 1990. |
| ASexyBabesToy | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 6-Sep-2001 2:08am You must be kidding. You know who did that song. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to ASexyBabesToy) posted 6-Sep-2001 8:45am I could not remember who did it at the time I wrote that. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to JoeSchmoe2003) posted 6-Sep-2001 8:47am Well I was closer to the 80's than you were according to Maartens comment above |
| icurok | posted 6-Sep-2001 9:06am Before I saw the options, Sledgehammer came to mind, but thinking about it, the ultimate "event" video that summed up the 80's for me is "Thriller". I remember being allowed to stay up late and watch the premiere (A premiere of a music video?!?! - the very idea ) of it on the TV. |
| ASexyBabe | posted 6-Sep-2001 9:13am Faith No More "Epic" from The Real Thing came out in the 80's and it would be one of my choices. |
| they | posted 6-Sep-2001 1:37pm That's weird.. you actually had the one I was thinking.. Take on Me. |
| ASexyBabesToy | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 6-Sep-2001 3:40pm I was surprised it was 1990. I would have guessed 1987 or 1988. You sure are cute when you don't remember things. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to ASexyBabesToy) posted 6-Sep-2001 3:47pm LOVE YOU BABY |
| mandy | posted 7-Sep-2001 4:03am Thriller...hands down..... not the greatest song on the list...but the fukkin' coolest vid |
| romkey | posted 7-Sep-2001 12:18pm Weezer was in the 80's? |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to romkey) posted 7-Sep-2001 12:25pm Nope it was in 90 |
| juliw | posted 7-Sep-2001 1:12pm This should have been multiple pick, because I liked a lot of these. I loved INXS and Paula Abdul in the eighties. |
| kaleb777 | posted 7-Sep-2001 2:21pm Cher, Turn Back Time. I've always wondered what a woman would look like if she put her G-string on backwards. |
| JoeSchmoe2003 | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 7-Sep-2001 9:50pm Adding the Weezer song was a complete accident cause I was looking through a list of great music videos and I was typing so fast I didn't realize I had added Weezer in my list. I knew it was a 90s song, I just was going too fast. |
| ASexyBabesToy | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 8-Sep-2001 5:20pm I LOVE YOU MORE. SMOOOOOCH!!!!! |
| davethebrave371 | posted 9-Sep-2001 2:52pm I chose Buddy Holly, but it is really a tie between that, Video Killed The Radio Star and White Wedding, with Fight For Your Right To Party and We're Not Gonna Take It at a close second. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to ASexyBabesToy) posted 9-Sep-2001 3:03pm no way I love you more |
| ASexyBabesToy | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 9-Sep-2001 10:25pm That would be impossible. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to ASexyBabesToy) posted 10-Sep-2001 12:02pm better call Guiness |
| natsim | (reply to Maarten) posted 11-Sep-2001 12:28am I think maybe it was meant to be that cheesy Buddy Holly song that came out in the 80s. It wasn't by Weezer. Some tacky one that went: "But I feel like Buddy Holly cause it's raining in my heart All the sad songs take me back to you now that we are apart Well I know how Paul McCartney felt when he got up to say I wish it was Yesterday...."... Alvin Stardust apparently. |
| 80sKing | posted 11-Sep-2001 8:02pm Take on Me. Simply the best video ever and no arguing that. I remember when it came out back in 1985, I was 11 years old and I saw it on MTV after getting home from school and thought it was incredible. Great video. |
| Cleo | posted 12-Sep-2001 12:09am Gosh this was a tough one I like all Van Halen music videos & I also liked David Lee Roths "California Girls" but, Tom Pettys video depicting the Alice in Wonderland video is the coolest,I can't remember if it was the "Last Dance with Mary Jane" song.Somebody help me out please. |
| JoeSchmoe2003 | (reply to Cleo) posted 12-Sep-2001 12:44am The video with Alice in Wonderland is "Don't Come Around Here No More." That video is on my list of choices. |
| Cleo | (reply to JoeSchmoe2003) posted 12-Sep-2001 1:14am Then that's the one I like.Thanks JoeSchmoe2003. That was my favorite video.I love Tom Petty!!! |
| Cleo | posted 12-Sep-2001 1:16am Tom Petty RULES!!!!!! |
| Cleo | (reply to JoeSchmoe2003) posted 12-Sep-2001 1:18am BTW COOL SURVEY!! Besides food surveys, music surveys are the next best. |

| nasale | posted 15-Sep-2001 9:36pm I know I'll probably get beat up for this, but I like Michael Jackson. I have a soft spot for the underdogs . (Well, sometimes.) |
| zyxw9876us | posted 20-Sep-2001 12:07am Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love- so simple yet so, um, interesting to my then-teenage brain. |
| JakeD | posted 29-Sep-2001 9:13pm I like most of these songs, a LOT. But the best video has to be "Thriller." |
| regis | posted 1-Oct-2001 10:51am gotta go with a-ha. |
| Mina | posted 3-Oct-2001 6:34pm ~Like a virgin~ how amusing. I would have voted for Thriller - great video - but I hate Michael Jackson! |
| Wookiewoman | posted 9-Nov-2001 6:06pm Too long of a list, but i'd have to say Metallica-One. |
