| anoddoblivion | posted 24-Aug-2001 6:46pm I didn't know there were certain ways you could cook a hash brown. |
| jettles | posted 24-Aug-2001 8:54pm both sides when i have them, which isn't often! |
| dayvrob | posted 24-Aug-2001 9:05pm I like it sort of crunchy..... |
| callen610 | posted 24-Aug-2001 9:44pm No preference. |
| HareKrishna | posted 25-Aug-2001 1:08am I haven't eaten hash browns in a long time. |
| SueBee | posted 25-Aug-2001 1:33am Cooked on both sides...crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. |
| mandy | posted 25-Aug-2001 2:16am smothered and covered |
| Cleo | posted 25-Aug-2001 4:02am When I used to be a chef at Carrows Restaurant,we would cook the hash browns on both sides.I assumed that every restaurant cooked it that way. But,when it is served to me,I like mine crispy golden brown on both sides, with a squeeze of lemon on it.NO KETCHUP!! Two over midium eggs, with Lop Chong(Chinese sausage),Scottish Banger,Bacon,Chicken Fried Steak,or Spam.Mmmmmmmm! |
| usfmom | posted 25-Aug-2001 6:08am If this question is referring to the square hash browns, I've never had those. I just get the ones made with "real potatoes" that are shredded. |
| Maarten | posted 25-Aug-2001 11:37am What are they? |
| SueBee | (reply to Maarten) posted 26-Aug-2001 2:38am Potatoes fried on a griddle or in a skillet, usually either shredded or cut into small cubes. Here's a photo, although not a very good one. http://www.dennys.com/features/images/smoked_01.gif |
| Matt | (reply to Maarten) posted 26-Aug-2001 7:18am C'est bon, ce sont des pommes de terre coupé en fine lamelle et grillé ā la poęle. |
| Maarten | (reply to SueBee) posted 26-Aug-2001 7:42am Thanks! I think we call it rösti over here. |
| Maarten | (reply to Matt) posted 26-Aug-2001 7:42am Merci! |
| Biggles | (reply to SueBee) posted 26-Aug-2001 9:37am Oh my goodness!!! That's not a hash brown that's a rosti! Hash browns are little and triangular and.......!!!! My world is falling apart... |
| confetti | posted 26-Aug-2001 11:20am Hash browns are disgusting. |
| SueBee | (reply to Biggles) posted 26-Aug-2001 1:21pm See there? Those darn Americans have goofed things up again! First we start calling the lift an elevator, the boot is a trunk, and now this! It's an outrage! |
| Biggles | (reply to SueBee) posted 26-Aug-2001 1:55pm lol |
| kaleb777 | posted 26-Aug-2001 2:20pm I don't eat hash browns - they are fat sponges. |
| SueBee | (reply to Biggles) posted 26-Aug-2001 4:13pm I'm a bit slow, as usual. Now I've thought of some obvious food name differences. We call crisps "chips" or "potato chips" and your chips we call "french fries". And yet, fish & chips here comes with french fries, not crisps. I just don't know who let this happen, but I'd like to slap them! I get the idea the early Americans were so fed up with British rule that they were determined to do things their own way. I'm really curious as to why we drive on opposite sides of the road. |
| ASexyBabe | posted 27-Aug-2001 2:05pm Well done and crunchy cooked on both sides. |
| Biggles | (reply to SueBee) posted 28-Aug-2001 1:43pm I have a feeling that's just *us* being really freaky! I think they drive on the right in the rest of Europe.... |
| Jemmy | posted 29-Aug-2001 9:00am I hate hash browns. |
| SueBee | (reply to Biggles) posted 30-Aug-2001 1:51am Yep, they do drive on the right in the rest of Europe. I think the only other places in the world where they drive on the left are countries that were (or still are) under British rule. Or at least strongly influenced by the British. |
| daver | (reply to SueBee) posted 30-Aug-2001 8:14am Japanese drivers also drive on the left. There are a bunch of African and wee island countries where the drivers also drive on the left (which probably do have some influence from the days when Britain had an empire). |
| Biggles | (reply to SueBee) posted 30-Aug-2001 5:08pm Like Hong Kong! |
| SueBee | (reply to daver) posted 31-Aug-2001 1:47am Oh, thank you! I didn't know that about Japan. Strange that I've never noticed it watching films made there. I usually pick up on stuff like that. |
| SueBee | (reply to Biggles) posted 31-Aug-2001 1:53am Excellent example! |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 1-Sep-2001 3:43am Cooked on both sides & a bit on the crisp side (but most of the places I go to cook them that way without being asked). |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to SueBee) posted 1-Sep-2001 3:45am That picture made me hungry. I like ham. |
| SueBee | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 2-Sep-2001 2:07am Mmmmm...ham.... |

| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to SueBee) posted 2-Sep-2001 9:36pm You're a peach SueBee! I ask for a slice & you send me an entire ham! Thanks! (Sorry about the drooling!) |
| SueBee | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 2-Sep-2001 10:12pm Much obliged! (Don't forget to use your napkin, dear.) |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to SueBee) posted 3-Sep-2001 1:50am Yes Ma'am! |
| clare | posted 4-Aug-2006 12:21am I don't get hash browns when I eat breakfast at a restaurant. I usually get a ham and cheese omelet and you can have either pancakes or hash browns and toast with the omelet. I always get the pancakes. |
