| Enheduanna | posted 4-Aug-2001 12:48pm Yes. I'm good at it. Except apparently I need a new cover for my ironing board, because the color on it is seeping off onto things I iron. |
| confetti | posted 4-Aug-2001 12:53pm Yes, surprisingly. Some of my happiest childhood memories were ironing my dolls' clothes. I had a tiny iron from General Electric that actually worked. |
| Biggles | posted 4-Aug-2001 1:31pm I'm ashamed to say that I have never tried to iron |
| mandy | posted 4-Aug-2001 2:25pm Yes, I can. No, I don't! |
| jkiehart | posted 4-Aug-2001 5:39pm You should see what I DO to my shirts! It's horrible... |
| SueBee | posted 4-Aug-2001 5:49pm I'm pretty good at it. I was married to a military man for several years, and I even had a friend (another military wife) who paid me to iron her clothes and her husband's, so I got lots of practice. |
| kaleb777 | posted 4-Aug-2001 6:02pm Yes, I'm good at it, but I buy clothes that never need to be ironed because I hate ironing. |
| Maarten | (reply to jkiehart) posted 4-Aug-2001 6:37pm Yes, but I don't iron, because I hate it. I even threw the damn thing away when I moved. |
| juliw | posted 4-Aug-2001 6:53pm I know how, but could use a little improvement. I hardly ever iron. I hang up my shirts as soon as they come out of the dryer, and dry clean some items. |
| jkiehart | (reply to Maarten) posted 4-Aug-2001 7:58pm I'll never realize my dream of being a laundress... |
| iworshipblink | posted 4-Aug-2001 8:36pm i can do it, id rather walk around in wrinkly clothes tho |
| LindaH | posted 4-Aug-2001 10:20pm I usually only iron collars that curl up or the parts of clothes that crease all funky at the seams. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 5-Aug-2001 1:31am Yes. I've ironed since I was 10 (I'm 48 now). My grandmother made us iron sheets, pillowcases and hankerchiefs as well as the regular clothes. Thank GOD for permanent press. I don't currently own an iron and no longer buy clothes that need ironing. |
| jettles | posted 5-Aug-2001 8:42am i am good at ironing but i could improve!! i don't iron that often but i do when i have to. |
| Jemmy | posted 5-Aug-2001 3:35pm Nope, not in the least. |
| jkiehart | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 5-Aug-2001 3:54pm Your grandmother ironed her SHEETS?? Is Martha Stewart a member of your family, by any chance? |
| NANNERMUFFlN | posted 5-Aug-2001 4:13pm Yes. I'm good at ironing. No. I don't want to iron your shirt for you |
| Zang | posted 5-Aug-2001 5:58pm My experience is limited to ironing my shirt before a wedding. I only iron the parts that show when the jacket is on. By the time the jacket comes off, it is dark and everyone is well lubricated, so they aren't likely to notice. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to jkiehart) posted 5-Aug-2001 6:13pm No, my grandmother was born in 1905 and that's the way she was raised to do things. Thank God we didn't have to iron towels as well. She did let us stop ironing sheets when permanent press became available. |
| callen610 | posted 5-Aug-2001 7:40pm Yes, I'm quite good at ironing. My mother made sure of that! I really only iron my husbands dress shirts though and a few of my things. A great tip though for those of you who hate ironing: Use Downy Wrinkle Releaser. I LOVE that stuff! Just spray it on your cotton shirts, smooth it out a bit and BAM!! No wrinkles! What a lifesaver on hot days or rushed mornings! |
| Oscar | posted 5-Aug-2001 10:22pm Yes, I love ironing. |

| Cleo | posted 6-Aug-2001 3:33am I hate ironing!! When I was 12 my mother made that one of my Saturday chores.I had to iron my play clothes, even. I just didn't get that concept. One day I challenged my mother & asked her, "Mom,why do I have to iron my play clothes,I'm only going to get it all wrinkled & dirty when I go outside to play?" her answer was simple, "Because I said so!" Now days I try to avoid clothe that require ANY ironing.Either that or take them out of the dryer as soon as they're dry & shake it & hang it immediately!I have an iron but I rarely ever usse it. I once had a friend who ironed all her sheets & pillow cases.I never got that extreme! |
| Brian | posted 6-Aug-2001 3:22pm My mother freaked out after the birth of her third son. Yours truly being the eldest: 7 years old at the time. "I will not be a slave to four men!" she announced. Starting the next day, I learned to iron, cook, sew, vacuum, wash, fold, sweep, ad nauseum. This skill came in handing during dating. My girl friends enjoyed coming up to my place...it was usually better kept than theirs. Once inside the lair... Aren't I a pig? |
| NANNERMUFFlN | (reply to HareKrishna) posted 6-Aug-2001 8:36pm Hello there and thank you for the warm welcome. No I haven't visited the newer surveys yet, I'm too busy working my way through some of the older ones. I'll be all caught up eventually. I'm Jae and this past weekend was my first time on SC and it looks as if I got a little carried away |
| HareKrishna | (reply to NANNERMUFFlN) posted 7-Aug-2001 12:02am That's ok. Please tell me more about yourself. |

I'll tell you about me if you tell me about you, deal? I'm 38, female, live in Texas, love a good laugh. Let's start off with that! |

| Pooh_Bear | posted 7-Aug-2001 3:46pm I can iron things like shirts and pants. But when you start giving me pleats and ruffles, I get into trouble. |
| Miaow | posted 9-Aug-2001 3:46pm Technically yes; unfortunately in practice I seem to have the effect of ironing wrinkles IN rather than out..... |
| Missalee | posted 15-Aug-2001 7:15pm I have to iron my shirts, my mom leaves before I wake up so I can't ask her to... When she is home and I'm ironing she has to do it because I'm not doing it right... meanie.. |
| Burner_GK | posted 29-Aug-2001 1:45pm Yes, but why would I iron when the dryer works fine? |
| autumnlight | posted 5-Sep-2001 2:34pm I'm fairly good at ironing. I have to iron all my clothes. |
| lerojist | posted 6-Sep-2001 4:19pm I had four children, I definitely learned how to iron. To me, I enjoyed ironing. I knew a friend of mine that ironed everything, I mean everything. She ironed underwear, dishtowels, everything. She and her husband had a bed with a canopy, and she washed and ironed it every day. Her house was spotless and she had 2 children, about 10 years apart. As a child she had a strict mother and father, and she and her sisters and brothers learned how to keep house, and also how to iron. All my children learned to iron. The two grandchildren that live close by, I'm teaching to iron, and cook. |
| Iseult | posted 7-Sep-2001 8:51pm Of course. |
