| daver | posted 18-Aug-1998 6:44am Yes, when my brain is too full of something (usually a problem), I will mumble to myself as I work it out. |
| milktree | posted 18-Aug-1998 9:12am I mumble to myself, but that might come under the category of "talking to myself under my breath" and not general mumbling. |
| reality | posted 18-Aug-1998 9:21am not nearly as much as I used to. my job (phone support) requires that I speak clearly. *what daver said |
| lisashea | posted 18-Aug-1998 10:00am I don't believe so. Sometimes I speak softly and my SO can't hear what I'm saying, but I don't think that's the same thing. Plus he's a bass player so his ears are shot anyway from his band ;) |
| qBaz | posted 18-Aug-1998 10:37am ...though I've found myself doing it more, recently, as I catch myself thinking further ahead of what I'm actually saying. |
| jjg | posted 18-Aug-1998 11:33am It is my responsibilty to ensure that people never understand what I say. If they did then they would know too much. |
| Jody | posted 18-Aug-1998 11:35am mmmmhrrrmmmmurmmmmphhrrrumhrrrmph. What? Oh, I said sometimes when I'm upset. |
| ron2112 | posted 18-Aug-1998 12:13pm My speech is typically a bit slurred anyway...does that count? |
| doom | posted 18-Aug-1998 12:36pm I have hearing problems so I have a hard time judging the volume of my voice so sometimes it comes out as a mumble. |
| bill | posted 18-Aug-1998 1:13pm Terrible habit of mine, I talk softly and/or mumble. Part of me is assuming that the other person will simply understand what I'm saying/thinking automatically. I have a lot of verbal issues... |
| Mimi | posted 18-Aug-1998 1:33pm Mainly, when I am so mad I sputter & really don't want anyone to hear what I have to say. |
| steve | posted 18-Aug-1998 2:42pm I never used to, although I would sometimes stutter; I noticed myself mumbling more and more, and started watching for it; I think it's gotten better now. |
| hunter | posted 18-Aug-1998 5:22pm It seems to depend. I've often been complimented on my excellent diction, but then I've had SO's with hysterical stories of what they thought I said when I was mumbling. One thing is that I talk to myself a lot and I think that when people overhear my musings they think I am talking to them and mumbling. |
| emily | posted 18-Aug-1998 6:31pm I'm sorry....could you repeat that please? |
| dpolicar | posted 20-Aug-1998 11:25am my first answer was "all the time!"... and then I realized you probably meant "...when talking to other people" so I changed it to "sometimes." |
| phi | posted 20-Aug-1998 7:11pm mmm mmf mm, mm hmm? |
| gilly | posted 21-Aug-1998 10:49am I think I do it mostly when I think I'm supposed to be saying something but I'm not sure what. |
| lizzie | posted 21-Aug-1998 2:41pm My fiance claims that I mumble all the time, but it's just not true. |
| Resy | posted 21-Aug-1998 8:55pm I talk to myself ... I'm loud about it though. |
| Ynot | posted 23-Aug-1998 2:31pm I think I have a slight hearing problem. It sounds to me that I am speaking at a normal level but people tell me I speak very softly. Maybe it's that I've been around so many loud mouthed people I don't want to come off sounding like them. I do speak distinctly. I may grumble but I don't mumble. |
| Timmi | posted 24-Aug-1998 11:44am More often than mumbling I talk too quickly. |
