| confetti | posted 28-Jul-2001 12:50am "Eight days a week", by the Beatles. I listened to it a lot at the beginning of a relationship with the first man I had been truly attracted to. He was, and is, much older than I am. Even though we had a messy break-up, it still brings back a lot of warm memories of new emotions. |

| Biggles | posted 28-Jul-2001 8:06am When my year finished school (summer 2000) we were all stood together at last break, everyone was crying because it was the end of our 5 years together (even though we *all* had an exam in 3 days time!) and pretty much everyone spontaneously started singing "You'll never walk alone." A little cheesy I guess, but it was a wonderful moment. We were all sad but so happy too. *Any* Christian choral music (traditional) brings back memories of standing in Lincoln cathedral and hearing that style of music wash over me. That was one of the occasions when I knew I needed religion (just *not* Christianity!). Hearing songs from any of the plays I've been in brings back those memories too. They were incredible experiences. Very demanding but enlightening and uplifting. |

| kaleb777 | posted 28-Jul-2001 1:08pm I know some that don't. I can't listen to Marianne Faithfulls' "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" I think it is the sadest song. I also think "Mothers little helper" is too sad to listen to. |
| Zang | posted 28-Jul-2001 1:29pm It is impossible for me to narrow it down to just a few. Music that I have listened to a lot has less tendency to evoke specific memories. I find that if I hear an old pop tune that I haven't heard for many years, it is more likely to dredge up associations of past events. I've been listening to early Pink Floyd from the '67-'71 period consistently for the last 25 years, so it doesn't make me think of any particular time or place. I recently heard David Essex's "Rock On", and was instantly transported back to a 6th grade dance party... |

| Kristal_Rose | (reply to jkiehart) posted 29-Jul-2001 4:43am Gee, we have the same musical tastes (esp P Simon, L Reed, Carpenters, & Grofé). There's this animal trainer, Ling. He's got this seal that can sing scales. They're in a public performance and it wont sing. After much futile coaxing and humility he gets mad and hits it, and it bellows 'Do'. He goes through all the coaxing again, loses his temper, and hit's it. Nothing. He buries his head in his hands almost in tears then bangs it on the noggin again; 'Re'. After much more coaxing he throws his hand in the air. A woman in the audience has a suggestion: Knock three times on the seal, Ling, if you want 'Mi'. {courtesy of 7th grade english teacher who heard it on the radio that morning. You should hear the one for 'Going out of my head, over you.'} |

And I don't want the world to see me Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am..." |

| jkiehart | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 30-Jul-2001 1:31pm HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh that's a keeper! Wait'll I tell my mom! When I was a little girl, I would "gallop" around the living room to "On the Trail," pretending to be the little donkey trying to get up to the top. It amused my parents to no end. I get such a strong visual image from that particular song. When I read the liner notes years later, I was stunned that my mental image of the song was right on target with Grofe's message. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to jkiehart) posted 30-Jul-2001 7:44pm When I was a kid it was Thunderstorms, In the Hall of the Mountain King, The Man of La Mancha, Paint Your Wagon, Beach Boys, Ventures, Carpenters, Steve Allen, Herb Alpert, and Elvis.. until Hair, Beatles, Allman Brothers, Bye Bye Birdie. Eventually it became Dead Kennedys, Robert Fripp and Brian Eno, Velvet Underground, Lene Lovich, & the Heads. Siouxsie an the Banshees, Badalamenti, Natalie Merchant & Swing are a bit more recent. I just bough the Sorcerors Apprentice a few days ago. |

| angelicdemon411 | posted 2-Aug-2001 1:33am well, let me think about this. there is a song called 'bird doo doo' that i made up w/ my cousin when i wuz at the age of 7, but now, 4 years later, i'm into hip hop, techno, alternative, and rap. LOL. bird doo doo brings bakk good memories, and umm, well. i'll reply if i think of more. there's not much, but, i used to BAWL when i heard 'graduation' by vitamin c. i never knew the song title and i thought it wuz a song about death and there wuz this really nice guy my mom wuz dating. i mean, we're talking, angel sent from above here. but he died in a car crash in '95, 6 years ago. and i'm over it now but i still bawl hearing that song cuz it makes me think about my friends and all the good times we've had together. but then i think: 'hey, i can just see them tomorrow at school!' or, if it's summer: 'hey, i can just get on AIM and there they'll be!' so thank you Vitamin C. if you happen to read this. lol. but, there is a good side to that guys death. well, not good, just better. i think this was his thanks for me holding strong and not going to his funeral to see him mangled in his worst state, i now have a beautiful, bright, baby sister! 9 months old, and tomorrow, 12:33 a.m. actualy for me now so today, at 1:00 pm, i go to my mom's sonogram! yep, that's right... we get another one!!! |

| cody | posted 9-Aug-2001 5:59am I remember when Kicks was a good song. We played that song a lot back when she was only thirteen. Turned out to be prophetic. Its tragic now, if anything, the way it all happened. (Wipes tear from his eye). Well... I think that right now, every song that once was a happy song for me is a sad song for me. (Laughs half-heartedly). I reminisce for a moment. (Gazes into the distance, empty). I'd try to explain, but I really don't believe what I am thinking can be put into words. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to cody) posted 9-Aug-2001 6:24am All your favorite songs and movies will be prophetic someday if you pay attention. You're in the formative period of your life's script. I can look back on just about everything I ever paid attention to, no matter how outrageous, and see how I in a sense lived it within a couple decades. You can get an idea of other peoples past, future and mindset, the torch they carry, by the media they've embraced. |
| cody | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 10-Aug-2001 7:32pm I find you to be exceptionally wise (intuitive) at times, Kristal. This statement fits very well with the experiences I have had in my life. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to cody) posted 11-Aug-2001 5:11am Every once in a while I guess I have the fortune of identifying something you haven't been trained to dismiss, although I suppose this example has parallels in the exoteric realm. |

| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Kandor66) posted 18-Aug-2001 1:59pm In 1971 he released the American Pie album, and everyone I knew could sing through all 8:27 of it. I was just singing it on the 15th when I bought a 69 SAAB 96. Lots of Simon & Garfunkle too. |
