Are you a "morning person" or a "night owl"?

You can define them however you like, but if you'd like me to do that for you: A morning person is someone who enjoys morning and tends to get up early. A night owl is someone who enjoys the night and often stays up late.

I used to be a night owl, and now I seem to be more of a morning person. I think it has mostly to do with a shift in my activity patterns (from school to work). One thing I have discovered is that life is better when I'm not sleep-deprived, and I try to make a point of getting enough these days.

I don't like to get up too early, but in general, once I'm up, I'm up, and I can be pretty disgustingly cheerful about it. And I tend to crash pretty early at night.

Business dictates that I be a morning person....pleasure dictates that I be a night owl. If I'm having a good time I would never say, "I better get going....I have to get up in the morning" I'd rather enjoy myself and pay for it the next morning. I guess that makes me a night owl.

We tend to get up at 9am, get into work at 10:30, then get to bed late. Definitely night owls.

Definitely a night owl. The best way to watch a sunrise is to stay up all night.

It depends. During the summer, I tend to stay up late, but during the school year, I get up early.

I seem to need very little sleep so I can enjoy the predawn hours and last thru Letterman. My coworkers of the same age are in bed by 9 or 10pm and can't get up at 6am to get to work. I don't understand how people can spend so much time in bed.

Without other constraints my sleep schedule will rotate later in the day until I am sleeping 8 hours starting 45 minutes before sunrise. Of course it's been some time since there have been no other constraints.

I used to be both in college. Now I hate mornings but get up early, while I enjoy the night but go to bed early.

I'm a morning person, just not an early morning person.

***Mimi - It's so weird - when I saw you mention "Letterman" I didn't get the "David" and "show" associated with it. I got this flash of Joan Rivers' voice saying "It's a word.... it's a plan.... it's LETTERMAN!". Funny....

I work better at night, and I prefer nighttime. I love being up really early, though. (I was up at 5:15 Sunday, driving on Rt. 9 at 5:30. It was really cool.)

I really enjoy getting up early sometimes - morning is a gorgeous time of day and it's great to have time to relax, eat a nice breakfast, etc. before you start whatever it is you're doing. However, I don't tend to want to get up early anywhere near as often as I tend to stay up late, so I put night owl.

My brain likes the night, my body likes the morning. I am The-Two-In-OneTM. Lately the body's been winning out.

Both, with semi-disastrous results on my health, periodically.

I'm cranky in the morning and want to go to bed early at night. I have a two hour period where I am good to do anything on any given day.

I'm definitly a night owl. I tend to not be fully wake up until 6pm (though I'm at work by 10 am). I like the night time.

I've always enjoyed staying up late but lately have gotten into the habit of waking up early, with the result that I don't get much sleep.

My natural tendency is to be a night owl. I tend to bottom out between 3 and 5 PM, which makes me nap until 7 or so, and then I can be up until 1 or 2 in the AM without being tired. Having to get up at 6:30 AM puts a big damper on that, though. I need my sleep.

Oh What a Beautiful Morning! Oh what a beautiful day! reality ?? morning people 'unnatural' that made me think of vampires ... must be cause I just watched Blade! reality - evidently, the survey results agree with you, as of this reading, 26 night owls and 6 daywalkers! In my own defense (of course) I sleep until I am ready to awaken ... it just happens that I'm ready by 6 am! oh well, let's just value the diversity and move on. When I come up with a good definition for 'getting a life' I'll ask you for one on 'unnatural morning people' - deal?

What daver said.
* Resy, I'm like you. I wake up around 6am (or even before), I'm awake - so I get up. I don't use an alarm clock. What could be more natural?
reality, sleeping a lot is a sign of depression, perhaps you should see a shrink. * smile *

morning people are unnatural... I enjoy sleep far too much to be either.. *what seven said.
*Resy: I got heckled the last time I uttered that statement too, but I will stand by my statement.
*Resy: deal...
*bill: I only sleep lots on weekends (and usually only on sunday). however, I do enjoy my sleep, and find dreaming more interesting than real life. I am usually unhappy to have woken up. especially if it is being jarred awake by my alarm clock, I almost always get woken in the middle of a dream.

Definitely a night owl, but my wife and daughter (three years old) are morning people, and it's hard on me.

I've always found it easier to stay up late than to get up early. I think my body wants days to be 28-32 hours long. * wink *

NOT a morning person for sure! I stay up until 4 am and wake up between 1-2 pm! Not because of a job either--just my preference!
