For paper, colored pencils or pastels. For anything else, paints.

I am not a patient person so when I have to color something, & I often do at work since I prepare signs & work with children, I want to use the fastest thing available. Anymore I try to use the computer as much as possible.

Actually, my favorite is those paint-with-water books.

I never much liked markers for colouring... Crayons and coloured pencils are good, and cake watercolours. The only pastels I've used were 'art oil pastels' in art classes, and they were a bit too smeary for paper (but cool on fabric).

...when I saw just the title from the main menu, I thought this was going to be about racial preference! * smile *

Lately I've been using pastels in figure drawing, but I remember being really blocked about color in sketching for a while and using crayons- they got me over being too serious about color. Paint, though, when it's the right tool, nothing else will do- nothing.

I have two boxes of colored pencils. So I would say colored pencils.

I don't color much, but the stuff I think is coolest are the colored pencils with water-soluble paint in them instead of lead, so you can mush the color around with a brush when you're done.

I find mixing markers and pastels gives me the best results

My favorite kind of coloring is outlining with markers and filling in with crayons. I enjoy coloring much more than drawing.

colored pencils for subtle coloring (eg., pictures), markers for less-subtle coloring (e.g., posters), but really I prefer color laser-printers and graphics software to all of these.

Colored pencils or a regular pencil for the base drawing and then color that with pastels.

Define coloring -- does that mean staying within the lines? * wink *

I really enoy the wide variety of tones and textures that you get with colored pencils. But crayons have a visceral pleasure unrelated to the result.

Pencil crayons! They have the most colors(other than paint)they dry the fastest, and you can do different shades of one color just by pressing stronger or lighter.

Colored pencils are really great :) Oh, and I love fabric paints. I just made tshirts for my SO's band and used fabric paints to color many of them in. TONS of fun :)

crayons....but not the big thick kind. They make it too hard to stay in the lines

crayons first (and they MUST be Crayola), followed by colored pencils

colored pencils. i don't seem to be coordinated enough to control wet, runny colors.

I prefer colored pencils (i can be more accurate with them) and crayons. I'm not terribly artistic.
