Windows 95/98/NT users, how many tray icons do you have?

Apologies to non-windows users. Also, since these icons come and go - I'm asking you to count right now how many there are. Tray icons are located on the "taskbar" (by default in the bottom right, next to the clock).

Six'ish...it could be any few as three or as many as ten. Ooh, ooh...gotta try the anonymous comment.
**bill: Will "anonymous" increment? Could it? Basically, have the second anonymous comment come from anonymous02 or something like that, so we can still have a vaguely coherent conversation.
**bill: I didn't mean keep it the same for a given user through multiple surveys, just for one survey. So I might be anonymous03 for this survey and anonymous06 for another. This way, if someone wants to direct a comment to an anonymous user, that can refer to them by "name".

now that I have shown that I am not paying attention. I noticed the anonymous comment. but I didn't notice the explanation field. I have 1 currently, but my desktop at home usually has 3-4 and my laptop has 2.

Jody here. playing with the anon a mouse comment thingy. As for my tray, there's a speaker thingy and an antivirus thingy.

Two here at work - Norton anti-virus and ClipCache (a clipboard history program). At home, however, I have on the order of six - ICQ, PerfMon, Personal Web Server, Audio Mixer, RealPlayer, VirusShield.
Tray programs, IMHO, are a very cool feature. Having a very non-intrusive way to access frequently-used apps, and get realtime information from them, really kicks butt.

Since I voted it changed to 5, the 5th being new mail. The others are volume control, system agent, norton and ICQ.

It varies, depending on what's running. Right now (at work) I have seven. If I launch DiscPlay, it puts the CD controls in the tray, so that would make eleven. At home I think I typically have eight or nine.

***I'm guessing that the Anonymous comments and survey explanations are new today. Excellent! Two very welcome additions, although I probably won't use the anonymous feature very often.

Not using it, though if "tray icons" means what I think it does then MacOS8 popup windows are analagous, in which case five.

Usually 7-10 depending on whether I'm currently logged-in, actively developing, testing, whatever.
***Milktree, I think you might be confusing the StartBar and the SysTray. The SysTray is an element of the StartBar. If you're getting Netscape in your SysTray something is VERY messed up.

Right now? Seven. I don't use them, but they are there. I think it's pretty much a waste of time myself.

I would have 7, but I haven't figured out why it is there sometimes and not other times.

woo! anonymous comments. Well, many people would probably guess it was me anyway. I have the Task Scheduler, Norton Crash Guard, "Picture Easy Transfer" for my camera, the Volume Control, Norton Program Scheduler (which I oughta nuke and transfer stuff over to the Windows task scheduler now that there is one), Dimension 4 (an NTP client that keeps my PC's clock in sync with the rest of the world - you'd be surprised how much it slips without it), XVision (an X11 server), PGPTray, and right now Dragon Naturally Speaking, which, because of my high regard for you all, I did not use to dictate this message. Also, because there are Germans in the house and they would think it was very odd that I was talking to myself if they heard me.

*** bill - the germans were upgrading my kitchen sink, not eating my tomatoes.

1)"Vsocks lite" (proxy networking to share the phone line with Jen), 2)volume, 3)Pilot hotsync, 4)Dialup networking. 5)If I get email Netspace has a mail icon. Also, 6) interMute (filters out web-page ads and such). 7) Dunce - automates dialup connection. 8)Notify CD player (with CDDB support!).
I used to have system agent (w95 plus thing), but I kept turning it off so I got rid of it. Also I had MS Powertoy QuickRes (changes screen resolution on the fly) but I never really used it either.
** Gilly, what's "Go!Zilla"?

Eight - task scheduler, volume, Norton CrashGuard, Norton SpeedStart, HotSync, Go!Zilla, DialUp Networking, and ICQ.

Go!Zilla is a download control thingy. It can resume broken downloads, and I lose my net connection a lot, so I tend to use it rather than Netscape for dowloading files.
