| thrifthtml | posted 6-Jul-2001 11:21am i didn't know much about hiv at the time and thought like 'oh people shouldn't be playing basketball around him cuz they might get HIV'...but now I know more about it |
| mandy | posted 6-Jul-2001 2:26pm Yes, but It wasn't a negative view. I admired his honesty and courage, the devotion of his wife and was pleased he decided to talk openly about AIDS to children(He wrote a cool book)in the hopes of raising their awareness. |
| thrifthtml | (reply to mandy) posted 6-Jul-2001 3:28pm and don't forget the magic johnson foundation |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 6-Jul-2001 3:32pm To me, he's just another basketball player. Since I don't follow basketball, my view of him didn't change because I had no view to start with. |
| Cleo | posted 6-Jul-2001 3:56pm Yes,it changed my view of Magic, but it was of a more compassionate kind of change for the man.It was like "Oh my gosh,Magic has HIV,who would've thought,a BASKETBALL STAR would get sick with the HIV sickness."The public now knew that anyone, even the most respected of basketball gods can get sick,& that HIV can in fact affect anyone, even those of such high status. |
| ASexyBabe | posted 6-Jul-2001 4:25pm I had and still have no opinion. |
| jettles | posted 6-Jul-2001 4:28pm he is HIV positive!!!! not was! |
| thrifthtml | (reply to jettles) posted 6-Jul-2001 5:39pm i would have changed that if you had pointed it out earlier. But I wasn't on early this morning or whenever you suggested that so i couldn't change it |
| juliw | posted 6-Jul-2001 6:40pm No, I thought he was a great basketball player, and hoped he would be okay. |
| jettles | (reply to thrifthtml) posted 7-Jul-2001 8:23am no problem, i have just heard reports in the last few years that he sometimes tells people or that people representing him have said that he no longer has HIV and i think that that would be a great disservice to the public. |
| Pooh_Bear | posted 7-Jul-2001 12:31pm No, but it changed the way I thought of HIV. |
| Iseult | posted 7-Jul-2001 1:56pm He was HIV positive?!? |
| Gamera | posted 7-Jul-2001 4:05pm I was impressed with his character that he came out publically. |
| bill | posted 7-Jul-2001 4:21pm jerk! |
| thrifthtml | (reply to bill) posted 7-Jul-2001 5:27pm |
| smurf | posted 7-Jul-2001 7:09pm I never really had an opinion at the time. I was too young and too far away to really give a hoot. |
| mandy | (reply to bill) posted 8-Jul-2001 12:03am *falls down laughing* |
| kaleb777 | posted 9-Jul-2001 12:47pm Yes, I thought he was now contaminated with HIV and would never be able to play again, or have unprotected sex. |
| natsim | posted 12-Jul-2001 12:11am Yes, because I'd never heard of him until I found out his HIV status. But I don't think that's what you're asking. |
| Zang | posted 12-Jul-2001 9:25pm Yes. First I viewed him as a famous basketball player. Then I viewed him as a famous basketball player who was HIV positive. I suspect that the reason for my change of view was very likely related to the news reports where he announced that he was HIV positive. |
| zekeil | posted 13-Jul-2001 12:28am NO! why in the hell would it?? it shouldnt have changed anyones mind about him. and if you found out that your own daughter had it would it change your mind too? |
| Wicksy | posted 13-Jul-2001 11:23am I heard he had overcome the virus. Has anyone else hurt that? |
| jkiehart | (reply to Wicksy) posted 21-Jul-2001 7:56pm Yeah, what's up with that? I could swear that I read or heard somewhere that there's no trace of the virus anymore. |
| antzu | posted 23-Jul-2001 1:28am Depends on what way he got aids.. if betraying SO or girlfriend then that would lessen his value in my eyes to nearly none. |
| RGirl | posted 15-Feb-2006 12:59am Sadly, but yes, when I saw him I did think about that. |
