| LindaH | posted 5-Jul-2001 1:39pm Shredded cheese! |
| Lahdee | posted 5-Jul-2001 2:06pm It would throw off our groove |
| daver | posted 5-Jul-2001 2:17pm Unless you could get a decent chunk of it past its own escape velocity, probably not too great of an immediate effect. |
| romkey | posted 5-Jul-2001 2:39pm tell me how you'll blow it up and I'll tell you what will happen. |
| justjulie | posted 5-Jul-2001 2:56pm yes i'll tell you, but then i'd have to kill you |
| ASB | (reply to daver) posted 5-Jul-2001 3:52pm I will drill a hole to the core of the moon and place an explosive device in the middle and let it fly. |
| Gamera | posted 5-Jul-2001 4:50pm bad things. |
| daver | (reply to ASB) posted 5-Jul-2001 4:57pm Hmm...let's see: 7.4 X 10 |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 5-Jul-2001 5:33pm My understanding is that it could very possibly throw the earth out of it's orbit, but I could be wrong. Hope you not going to blow up the moon just to see what happens. |
| heyzeus1 | posted 5-Jul-2001 5:52pm the cia did it in the sixties, just for an experiment. they blew up the moon to see if the chain reaction would destroy the earth and the universe as well. it didn't and fortunately everyone was sleeping at the time, so the cia sent their alien allies to jupiter to tow back one of their extra moons and paint it white and put it in orbit so no one would notice. that's all good 'cause see the old moon was made of cheese, and...well, that's a different story. |
| anoddoblivion | posted 5-Jul-2001 6:23pm I can tell you the most realistic guess. It would blow up, and pieces would get sent in every direction including toward the earth, some would hit the earth, and it would be catastrophic for us. The meteor that hit the earth 66 million years ago was the main cause of dino extinction, so just think if more than one hit us, even if they weren't the same size, it would still be bad if they all hit at once. |
| HareKrishna | posted 5-Jul-2001 7:37pm The tides would go crazy! |

| Cleo | posted 5-Jul-2001 10:07pm No,don't even go there!!! I love the moon.What would dogs howl at?? |
| Lahdee | posted 5-Jul-2001 10:28pm I just got a mental picture of a person mooning their dogs to give them something to howl about. I really should get some sleep aye. |
| cB | posted 6-Jul-2001 12:25am I actually think that it would mess the weather up a lot. Where there wasn't water, i think it would basically be a desert there and you'd get no rain. It'd probably also throw off the tides, but that's what would then screw the weather up. And then we'd be all screwed. But hell, i'll try it. |
| Cleo | (reply to Lahdee) posted 6-Jul-2001 12:34am lol lol lol That's a good one!!See what happens when one is sleep deprived??They make sense...lol Scarey isn't it???? |
| mandy | posted 6-Jul-2001 12:52am You'd be cursed forever |
| Cleo | (reply to cB) posted 6-Jul-2001 1:51am Don't do it!!!!Don't touch that button!!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaa!! What did my cats ever do to you to deserve this???? (stomping foot) Your not nice, you go take a time out!!!!!! |
| Biggles | posted 6-Jul-2001 8:15am There'd be some pretty hefty chunks that would come hurtling to Earth destroying cities and lives. Don't do it! |
| romkey | (reply to mandy) posted 6-Jul-2001 9:54am will you go spank whoever goes and blows up the moon? |
| ASB | (reply to daver) posted 6-Jul-2001 10:48am Well I was thinking I would just drill a hole all the way through the moon and put a stick of dynamite in the hole. The stick of dynamite will be so large that it sticks out both ends of the hole. I will lite the wick with the fire from the back of my space ship and hit the turbo. What will happen and will I make it away from the moon before it is blown to bits or will I be sucked back in like a black hole? |
| daver | (reply to ASB) posted 6-Jul-2001 11:07am I don't think you'd blow the moon to bits with that. Take a chunk of dynamite the size of the moon. Throw it away: that's far too small. Take a chunk of dynamite the size of the sun. Add some more sun-sized chunks until you have 400,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 of them. That's how much dynamite (roughly) it would take to blow up the moon. |
| ASB | (reply to daver) posted 6-Jul-2001 11:48am it would blow it in half wouldnt it? |
| daver | (reply to ASB) posted 6-Jul-2001 12:27pm |
| mandy | (reply to romkey) posted 6-Jul-2001 2:50pm For you, of course!! |
| Jemmy | posted 6-Jul-2001 6:30pm It wouldn't be there anymore. |

| bill | posted 7-Jul-2001 3:04pm "The year 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction. Man's civilization is cast in ruin. Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn... A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil. He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!" ![]() |
| mandy | (reply to bill) posted 7-Jul-2001 3:08pm Thundarr is such a stud! |
| bill | posted 7-Jul-2001 3:10pm Off-hand, I'd say you'd probably end up with a asteroid-field like ring around the Earth; Some nasty-ass tidal waves and perhaps milder tidal force thereafter. If you got some chunks to fall to Earth (seems likely if you actually managed to blow up the moon), you might be able to cause a "nuclear winter" like effect that would put a cloud of dust around the Earth for 100 years and kill most of the life on it. ...not to mention some big-ass craters. It's hard to say really. There's also the Space: 1999 scenario where the moon breaks away from the Earth an travels around the galaxy getting into zany adventures. |
| bill | (reply to mandy) posted 7-Jul-2001 3:11pm Princess Ariel was a babe too. ...though, Ookla was kind of a dork. |
| smurf | posted 7-Jul-2001 6:51pm I have no idea. But do you know what happened when a local guy tried to blow up a bus? |
| Cleo | (reply to smurf) posted 7-Jul-2001 8:52pm No! What????What happened when a guy tried to blow up the bus??Wait a minute,is that the move Speed??I saw that movie.... |

| Brian | posted 9-Jul-2001 3:04pm You'd probably be beaten to death by all poets living and dead. |
| smurf | (reply to Cleo) posted 9-Jul-2001 11:58pm No, it's got nothing to do with Speed. Altho I just loved that movie!! What happened when a local guy tried to blow up a bus? He burned his lips on the exhaust pipe |
| Cleo | (reply to smurf) posted 11-Jul-2001 3:22am lol lol lol lol lol You got me !!!!!!lol lol lol That's a good one!! |
| zekeil | posted 12-Jul-2001 2:32am the nights would be exactly the same in the city and darker in the country. there would be no more eclipses which are quite interesting. |
| Zang | posted 12-Jul-2001 11:02pm You would get all kinds of nasty grey dust on your face. You would get really tired before you even got it partly inflated, and then you would pass out. |
| kaleb777 | posted 17-Jul-2001 1:21pm chunks would hit the Earth causing widespread damage, earthquakes and tectonic activity. Earth orbit would be changed and may wobble for a long time until it's momentum stabilizes. The tides would cease, and lunatics would not experience as many mood swings. |
| iworshipblink | posted 20-Jul-2001 11:15pm thats a really good question. |
| SlickRic67 | posted 25-Jul-2001 5:08pm Um.. lets see. There would be no tides hence there being no wind. No wind make the clouds only stay over watered areas. So basically everyone would have to live on the shore of something to not be in a permanent drought. Not good. |
