| lara | posted 8-Aug-1998 2:17pm i have a full-length mirror, but it's not in "living space." it's in the attic, and i use it approximately twice a year. |
| emily | posted 8-Aug-1998 5:53pm There are times I'm running late and don't have the extra few minutes to "look my best"....oh well. During the day I try to avoid my reflection. I can be feeling really good (in spite of not sleeping the night before). When i catch a glimpse of those bags under my eyes it's a real bummer. |
| Mimi | posted 8-Aug-1998 9:39pm There is nothing more annoying than trying to carry on a serious conversation with someone who keeps looking at themselves in the mirror or picture glass or window glass or whatever. They are either very, very vain or very, very insecure. Whichever it is, I wish they would get help for it! |
| steve | posted 9-Aug-1998 10:29pm I'm just kinda funny-looking no matter what I do, so I've pretty much given up trying. |
| gilly | posted 10-Aug-1998 9:11am It varies, depending on how much my appearance matters and how secure I feel about it that day. If I'm worried about how an outfit looks, or what my hair is doing, I'll check it out in every reflective surface I pass. That's not because I'm vain, it's because I'm insecure. |
| lisashea | posted 10-Aug-1998 11:04am I'll glance in a mirror once to make sure my part is straight, but other than that I don't really use the mirror. |
| jonas | posted 10-Aug-1998 12:59pm I check my appearance often, especially if I think I'm looking spiffy on a particular day. I'm vain, I can't help it. *** hmmm, maybe its more insecurity. I wish I had a full-length mirror, too. |
| Jody | posted 10-Aug-1998 2:23pm I try to make sure in the mirror that no one will laugh when they set eyes on me, but other than that I'm not picky.
***steve - I don't think you're funny looking. Besides, you have really neat eyes! |
| reality | posted 10-Aug-1998 5:26pm I don't generally take much time in preparation in the morning, just the once when I am in the bathroom after the shower/teethbrushing etc. beyond that, I will check my reflection in most any surface, not constantly but in passing, usually to make sure that I don't have any stains or things in my beard (it is rather bushy and good sized, but light, objects can sit in it without my noticing) or make sure my hair isn't standing straight out or whatever (this is insecurity and paranoia in action). I do care more about a someone's personality than their appearance. this isn't to say that I am not a pig, I will 'check out' any attractive women that pass by (at which point I am merely checking the packaging without a care for the insides). the point that I draw the line at is if they are unwashed enough to carry a strong odor. a person can be dirty, wrinkled, holey, shaggy, or deformed (meaning not of 'normal' appearance) and I don't care... but if you stink, forget it. it has to be fairly rank, and noticeable for this prejudice to kick in. I did have a friend that was 'ripe' all summer long, and this was within 15 or so minutes of showering. **seven - I don't introduce myself to anyone. I don't like humans for the most part. When I do meet and talk to someone, it is usually them choosing to talk to me. and I have heard some interesting stories and had decent conversations with random unkept/dirty people on the subways and in laudromats. |
| LeXie24 | posted 10-Aug-1998 10:55pm i think 2 much emphasis is put on appearance these days, its actually kind of sad..one day i hope we over come this trivial appearance quirks... |
| Resy | posted 11-Aug-1998 4:10pm who has time for all that checking? |
| seth | posted 18-Aug-1998 11:02pm I often go for days without looking in a mirror. |
| elijahblue | posted 19-Aug-1998 1:20am It depends on where I am going/where I am. If I am going to/at work, or, to a lesser extent, school, I don't care much about how I look. If I am getting ready for/with a date, mirrors become very important... I like the vampire option. |
| seven | posted 19-Aug-1998 3:12pm To anyone who said you care more about what's on the inside, when's the last time you introduced yourself to a dirty, smelly, ugly, poorly dressed person because you were curious what his/her opinions were? ***Reality - I share your approach and view on the matter, but it doesn't explain why having more regard for what's on the inside is the No. 1 response. |
| lelle | posted 20-Aug-1998 10:14am ***seven: really, if you were at a party, everyone all dressed up etc, and there is one person there who is =not= dressed up, wouldn't you find him at least marginally interesting? |
| anonymous | posted 6-Oct-1998 12:45am What I was born with is all I can offer. No need to try to emphasize things that aren't supposed to be emphasized....If clothes weren't necessary, I guess I'd just go au naturale......and I guess Life would be more interesting |
