Nelly Furtado! * smile *

She's young and beautiful, unique, WRITES HER OWN MUSIC, and has a wicked voice.

ummm...I'm not really up on it, but I guess the only one I can think of right now is Billy Gilman. He has a lot of talent.

Dido has a beautiful, chilling voice and a nice public profile. I hope she stays out of Pepsi commercials and the like.
At the Drive-In are so unbelievably great. They are the next U2.
I also was totally taken in by Gorillaz's new single. I forget the name.

I HATE Nelly Furtado. Her songs are annoying. She has a good voice, but she is just overplayed because she is Canadian artist.

Hmmm, I am 22, and I have no idea, I couldn't even name 5 new artists. I love The Stones though!

I can't think of one. I don't like any of them. I REALLY don't like Nellie's music or Emminem, and a lot of the new stuff is crap to me.

Ugh. I really don't like Billy Gilman. He has a good voice, but he's like a little adult - very creepy.

Creepy indeed. I can't wait for his voice to change. I want to see if he'll keep his career. Puberty seems to have messed up things for a few younger stars.

Crazy Town. I love "Butterfly"--the whole song is just a intricate, acoustic three minutes of staring at the sun. The rest of their album is just horsecrap, though. If you don't feel like buying it, but do feel like contradicting me, go and burn a CD of all the rap-metal larvae out there--their very worst songs--and then take it into garden and get creative. Mud is the easiest. Leave it out a few days, bring it home and play it. That's "The Gift of the Game", without its one, excellent single. And, I promise, the 16-buck version will foul up your CD player just as much.

I dunno...her voice is wicked, but i think that the songs themselves are really good. She has amazing lyrics.

I really like Dido's album as well, and the lyrics are great - what sounds on the surface like a harmless pop ditty often has a real dark side. I'm just wondering whether she can manage a second album that's as good as the first - there are two possible problems: a) the first album is very long, and b) all the songs are pretty much on the same theme (men!), so she may well have used up all her good material in one go.

No, but it's not for lack of trying. I'm faxing, e-mailing, calling, clipping want ads, networking.

Something's bound to come about.

Bartending looks more and more appealing, though. Not that a bartending job is easier to get than a good creative writing job.

See, I'm up in the air about whether or not I'd like another office job.

You could always come to Holland for a job. There are zillions of jobs here and no need to speak Dutch.

Yeah, but if you think about it she's been out with this album for about 3 years. It's just now that she's getting all this attention. I'm sure she'll come back and define herself as a true artist and musician.

I also like the rhythmn of the whole record. The production is really well done. Some of the songs (especially track 2) have an almost maddeningly good beat.

Some new (or newish) bands and artists that I think have a lot of potential:

Coldplay
Dido (I've already mentioned her)
Wheatus
Blink 182 (although I'm not sure if they count as new any more)
David Gray (not really new, but he's only just become widely known)
