Oh, I love The Ugly Duckling too * smile * It was one of the first stories I translated into poetry (when I was about 10) and I've always liked it.

When I was a kid I had this great book of Russian fairy tales. My favourite had a long name that I can't recall for sure, but it had a sneezing goat in it...and cabbages.

It's about a tailor who has flies in his shop so he kills them all with one flick of a piece of cloth. He starts going on and bragging about how he killed 7 in one blow but he gets overheard. The person who overhears him goes to the king of a neighbouring country who has a problem with 7 giants and tells him he knows of someone who can solve his problem. The tailor is sent for and ordered to kill the giants (in which case he can, of course, marry the beautiful princess). Of course, he manages to do it, marries the princess and they all live happily ever after (except for the giants....and the flies!) The moral of the story is (there's always a moral) not to shoot your mouth off bragging unless you've actually done something impressive!

So nothing like what *you* were thinking! * raspberry *

(I may have got quite a lot of that story wrong BTW, I haven't heard it in years!)

The Emperor's New Clothes. It's very wise.
I love fairy tales and folk tales; except after Disney gets hold of them, then they get sappy.

What is your problem? You're always going on about how you are a Christian, blah, blah, blah, ... then you go and say stupid things like that!?

That's just disgusting!

That's not what I think about. It's an innocent joke about a fairy tale. Don't take it so seriously.
