| callen610 | posted 17-May-2001 9:41pm Assuming you have NONE what-so-ever, I would recommend the Beatles One album as a good starting point. Once you have a good compilation of "Greatest Hits" albums, then I would move on to individual albums. |
| Iseult | posted 17-May-2001 9:57pm K, I will help you with what you need from the classical music. But everything labeled 'Phillips', and you won't make mistake in the performance. To have your collection complete, you have to have works by Mozart, J.S.Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Vivaldi, Schubert, Schumman, Chopin, Monteverdi, Wagner, etc. |
| Iseult | (reply to Kris13) posted 17-May-2001 9:59pm I use to like that album of Alanis so much; but I'm not anymore into that kind of music. I don't like her newest album. I think it's too weird. |

| IanLovesPhoebe | posted 18-May-2001 4:58pm Ahem, to all in general...this is a purely hypothetical question, just so everybody can talk about the music they like. I'm not this goon who has to do a survey before he can decide what he wants to buy, as some of you seem to think |
| Iseult | (reply to Kris13) posted 18-May-2001 5:00pm By weird, I mean she just added too much 'Eastern' style in her music. There is one song on her new album that I just can't listen to because it makes me REALLY upset, and I have to start crying. Rigth now, I'm into rap, hip hop, R&B, some rock, techno and industrial, and some classical music. |

| Frostbrand | posted 18-May-2001 6:40pm Anything by Sarah McLAhlan or Tori Amos would be good. Smart by Sleeper, although that may be too sexually strong for you. World Entertainment War if you can find it. Rage Against The Machine. Killing in the Name is a powerful anti-racism song, and Bulls on Parade is a great dig at the NRA. |

| Iseult | (reply to Kris13) posted 18-May-2001 9:15pm I really can't remember the name, but I'm sure it's not 'That I Would be Good'. I think it's like sixth or seventh song on the CD. She is saying something that he is just alike her father, and I remember one line, and it goes 'with my fifty odd years'. That's all I can remember of. |

| Goose66 | posted 21-May-2001 11:14pm Fleetwood Mac's Boxed Set. You will thank yourself for the rest of your life. Also if you're young, it may help you to realize our music really was better until the mid-90s, compared to this crap that's being released now. Oh jeez, I sound like an old person, but it's really true! |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Cleo) posted 22-May-2001 7:02am I resorted to highlights of my oldies collection just to have them represented here amongst fresher energy, even though I never listen to that stuff anymore. I don't have quite the passion to find out who my favorite musicians are these days, especially since I don't buy music anymore (well, actually I'm building quite a vinyl collection of oldies from thrift store highlights). I turn on the radio and let new stuff of diverse genres come to me. Is it similar for you, or are you still still 'main stay'ing on stuff from your formative period? |
| skydvr02 | posted 22-May-2001 8:52am Ac/Dc rocks, buy them...any cd is good. I would get Back in Black personally. |
| Cleo | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 22-May-2001 5:21pm Oh yes! I'm a die hard 60s music loving, recycled flower power, head banging Hippie. One might say I'm stuck in a time warp.I feel some of the BEST music ever, came out of the mid 60's.Funny tho because alot of it has come back in a fresher innovative way. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Cleo) posted 22-May-2001 11:46pm My collection was once similar to yours. It was less metal / hot rock, and more experimental.. Fripp & Eno, Floyds Umma Gumma, All the early punk/new wave/industrial, and all sorts of 60's like BeBopaLula, Hang on Sloopy, Leader of the pack sort of stuff. We had every album of Beatles, P.Floyd, Doors, T.Heads & many others. I remember picking on my son because his esteemed 'Nine inch nails' had basically one song spread over several CD's, quite unlike the bands of our age like the Beatles. I heartily recommend 'Dead can Dance' to see how our roots have evolved. It's mistral and drumming without head banging. The direction Siouxsie & the Banshees was heading a decade ago. |
| Cleo | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 23-May-2001 12:25am when time allows I will need to track down "siouxsie & the Banshees. But yeah,I like all the stuff you mentioned here.As a matter of fact I'm still trying to track down a "Vanilla Fudge" CD.Have you tapped the Beatle site it's so cool.Check it out. |
| SueBee | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 23-May-2001 1:11am I like your taste in music! |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to SueBee) posted 23-May-2001 1:11am Thanks. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Cleo) posted 23-May-2001 1:58am I actually got disgusted with myself for living in a time warp. I decided that listening to my old music would only synergize my entropy. I'm about to make a compilation for my son of classic guitarist tracks though (that I hadn't even been able to hear in my collection until I picked up a guitar) from my vinyl collection. 'Siouxsie' makes me 'feel' like I'm in a mist of dancing spectral energies. 'Dead can Dance' makes me feel like all ages past live with me now. They are atmospheric, not narrative, like we grew up with. |

| Cleo | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 23-May-2001 2:02pm I looovvvve classic guitar!My brother plays classic guitar.How old is your son? |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Cleo) posted 24-May-2001 12:18am Almost 17. I got to hear him play last night on the guitar (a black acoustic electric) I got him for christmas. He sounds like a black forest stream, dark and organic. I wish he weren't dark, but my daughter is light, and I was somewhat dark at his age too. I visited a guitar shop today full of cello's, dobro's, etc. A very woody place. Classic, like Liona Boyd? (who does a cross between flamenco and hiawatha forests) |
