| Enheduanna | posted 5-May-2001 9:43am My front door has a big window in it. If I couldn't see who it was, that would mean they were either blocking the window or hiding, so no, I wouldn't open it. Assuming I had a solid wood front door, if they wouldn't tell me who they were, then I would not open the door either. |
| juliw | posted 5-May-2001 9:43am I have a peephole and a window next to the front door, but if I still couldn't tell who it was, I might ask who it was. If it wasn't someone I knew or wanted to answer the door for, I would not answer the door. If it persisted, I would call the police. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 5-May-2001 9:47am No, I would call 911. If the person needed help, they would get it. If the person was up to no good, they would GET it (hopefully). I live in the very back of a fairly large (for this area) apartment complex. The driveway into the complex is a good 3 blocks from where my apartment is located, so the chance of someone knocking on my door for sinister purposes is pretty small. Granted, they could say there is a fire, but there are fire alarms in the entryway of each block of 4 apartments. I also have a peephole and a patio door that goes out the back of the apartment. |
| Maarten | posted 5-May-2001 10:04am Well, I have an intercom, so I can find out who is at my door. But let's assume I didn't have one: Not if someone just rings the bell once. That sometimes happens and are probably just drunk people passing by. But if someone repeatedly would ring my bell, then yes. It could be someone who needs help. And since no one owns guns here the risk of getting killed isn't that high. |
| Jemmy | posted 5-May-2001 11:40am No. |
| confetti | posted 5-May-2001 12:19pm Yes. I'm not afraid. |
| Iseult | posted 5-May-2001 2:08pm I guess so. But I don't think that I would get up at all from my bed to see who's knocking. |
| Iseult | (reply to Maarten) posted 5-May-2001 2:11pm Well in Canada, it's REALLY hard to legaly get a gun. But just give me money, I'll get you one in two days. You can never be safe. |
| mandy | posted 5-May-2001 2:29pm No way |
| Lana77 | posted 5-May-2001 2:35pm If the knocking was continous, than I would. |
| Maarten | (reply to Iseult) posted 5-May-2001 2:41pm No, thanx. I don't want one. |
| lara | posted 5-May-2001 3:35pm Nope. I doubt I would hear it anyway. |
| jettles | posted 5-May-2001 4:47pm nope and if they wouldn't go away i would call the police! unless they told me who they were. our front door has a long window right next to it so i don't think we would have any trouble figuring out who it was. |
| Zang | posted 5-May-2001 7:00pm Absolutely not! |
| romkey | posted 5-May-2001 8:23pm If I was asleep I'd be so far away from the front door that I woudln't hear the knocking. |
| kaleb777 | posted 5-May-2001 10:17pm No. I don't even answer the phone if I don't recognize the number. |
| bcollins | posted 6-May-2001 12:40am No, I live in an area that has some problems (all I can afford), until recently, my downstairs neighbors, who have since been evicted, were dealing meth out of their apartment. I reported this to the landlord and the police because I didn't want to live above a drug dealer, not to mention the fact that they had an 18 month old child in the house while this was going on. Since they have been evicted, I have had people coming upstairs to my apartment, trying to locate them. I won't open my door, but go out on the deck and holler to get the f**k off the property or I'll call the cops. They generally haul balls when I threaten them in that manner. > |
| Iseult | (reply to Maarten) posted 6-May-2001 9:53am You are welcome. |

| Violet | posted 7-May-2001 6:51pm As a female living alone - no way. My mom grew up in Brooklyn, and she raised me to be properly paranoid. |
| Pomeranian | posted 7-May-2001 7:20pm With my luck it would end with Alex and his droogs killing me with a phallic work of art. |
| mandy | (reply to Pomeranian) posted 7-May-2001 8:43pm OR even worse...It could be a merzky bezoomny baboochka with her britva in her carman waiting to crast you if you open the door |
| anoddoblivion | posted 8-May-2001 12:23pm Yeah, why not? |
| Sparky | posted 8-May-2001 12:38pm not if I couldn't figure out who it was. I would have to know for sure in the middle of the night. |
| sunshine | posted 8-May-2001 9:57pm Oh yeah I'd open it because if it wasn't an emergency it will be soon. Seriously though I'd open it but would have the shotgun in hand ready to be used because I live in the middle of nowhere. |
| callen610 | posted 9-May-2001 11:14pm No way! |
| johnnyp | posted 18-May-2001 8:50pm My gun is in my hand. But i do answer it. Its probably an emergency. |
| nasale | posted 20-May-2001 11:34pm Yes, and then I'd bat them across the head for waking me up in the middle of the night! |
| Cleo | posted 29-May-2001 4:45pm I never open the door at night unless the person on the other side of the door is someone I recognize."Go away!" Everyone's sleeping, come back tomorrow morning, around eight.""Better yet, call first before you come by." |
| smurf | posted 24-Jun-2001 12:06am No, 'cos if it was someone I knew, they would id themselves. |
| darmichar | posted 4-Jul-2001 8:30am With pistol in hand. |
