| Maarten | posted 1-May-2001 3:43pm Labour by a narrow margin. The Foot and Mouth hasn't been handled very well by the English government. Otherwise it would have been a comfortable margin. |
| jkiehart | posted 1-May-2001 4:27pm I think G. Cooper said it best when he said Are those people howling for the silencing of John Townend equally vociferous in their condemnation of the openly racist thug, Robert Mugabe? If they are not, isn't this, in itself, a manifestation of racism? As for Townend, whatever one thinks of the man's views, he is far from unique in holding them. If the open discussion of immigration cannot any longer take place, then those who share his views will be polarised towards avowedly racist organisations. Surely, that cannot be for the good of society? There can be no taboo topics in a true democracy. |
| jkiehart | posted 1-May-2001 4:28pm I stole that from the provided link. Thank you. |
| Zang | posted 1-May-2001 8:32pm No idea, I'm sure that if I followed the links, I would respond with the majority, but I couldn't be bothered. |
| Biggles | posted 2-May-2001 1:28pm It's looking like another Labour landslide. If the Conservatives can't stop getting into "scrapes" and voter turnout is reasonable (65% +), Labour will win by a fair amount. If turnout is high (75% +), it'll be a landslide. Turnout is predicted to be lower than last time though, ie less than 71% Labour have 50 points in the latest opinion polls. If the election was tomorrow, they'd win by a bigger landslide than last time! |
| Biggles | posted 2-May-2001 1:31pm Though it won't really be Labour who've won the election. It'll be the Tories who've lost it (completely)! |

| Biggles | (reply to Maarten) posted 3-May-2001 2:55pm The British Government - not the English! The general public support Labour for putting off the election. Unless there's a huge scandal over the next month involving the Labour party they're going to get a BIG majority again - certainly more than the 60, Mr Hague needs to cut it to to stop a leadership challenge. |
| Biggles | (reply to Maarten) posted 3-May-2001 2:58pm Come on, own up, who thinks the Tories are going to get back in?! Is it wishful thinking or dread? |
| Maarten | (reply to Biggles) posted 3-May-2001 3:18pm I don't support the tories at all if that's what you think. |
| Biggles | (reply to Maarten) posted 7-May-2001 8:00am Sorry, that wasn't supposed to be a reply to you! From other comments of yours that I've read, you *really* don't seem like a Tory supporter |
| Maarten | (reply to Biggles) posted 7-May-2001 9:21am You're right! lol |

| Biggles | (reply to nasale) posted 28-May-2001 7:21am They Tories won't get in! Fear not |
| Cleo | posted 30-May-2001 4:10am I don't know enough about British politics to form an opinion |
