i think I have seen my cats express all of these except contempt and shame. Cats are very good at communicating their needs and wants, and are both very loving and very independent at the same time.

I'm a big animal lover. I believe they have a very wide range of emotions. My big dream is to have a huge tract of land and get donkeys, emus, llamas, pygmy goats, miniature horses, all kinds of birds, cats & dogs.

All of them in dogs, some of them in other animals, and only a couple in cats.

Good survey. * smile *

I want to get llamas so I can get rid of my lawn mower. A vet I know told me they make the best live lawn mowers because they don't eat trees or bushes, and their crap is small.

This all depends on the animal. I can't generalize because some animals are smarted and capable of feeling more than the others.

Eh, I don't really know. Thats one of those things that is kind of hard to know. All the ones listed here, I would presume, although.. it is highly subjective as to whether each of these is an 'emotion' or an 'independent' emotion for that matter... or... seperate from any sort of logical judgmental aspect that an animal doesnt have, and, without which it is a seperate emotion.. etc. (BTW, I didnt click all of the boxes because it is not something I want to do. Waste of time.)

I was very surprised when I found out lizards could feel sadness.

I really think that you're looking WAY too deep into this. I was just asking in your opinion what emotions do you believe you've seen an animal express.

My relatives collectively own what had once been a large sheep ranch. One of my cousins had a llama ranch like I was planning on doing when I was in my 20's.

Wow, how so. I haven't ever had a rapport with reptiles, though I have a cousin who lets rattlers slither across his bare feet.

That's so cool. Robin Williams had a sort of dude ranch at one time (don't know if he still does) that was a home for disabled animals like three legged horses and such.

I love that! I am an even bigger sucker for an injured animal! Hence, I'm known for rescuing birds (mainly). I had a pigeon a few years ago. He decided to make an old bread box his new home. He was my 'bud'If I slept in past ten, he would pick at my feet or head to get me up. I taught my budgie to 'go for a ride' on the pigeon's back. It was loads of fun! When I moved, the pigeon got scared and perched on my head all day. It didn't do much for my dignity. I even had to take a bath with the darned thing there.Gawd, what I do for love!

I have seen dogs, cats and ferrets express all of these and more.
I'm sure other animals express emotions as well, I have just not witnessed it.

All the above and more. My cat seems to express evilness more than anything though.

I am definitely a bird lover. A year ago I was thinking we could use brighter birds, and the next day a flock of parrots flew overhead (I was wearing for the first time antique earrings from my son that sort of look like parrots too).
My cousin has a macaw which she actually converses with. Until I met it, I presumed they only mindlessly babbled quotes. I believe there was a time descendant from the dinosaurs in which they were the height of conscious awareness. I can talk to birds and other animal telepathically. I get them to pose for my camera. I've even passed spirit to crows. I awake to doves out my window. I have a neighboring rooster that reminds me at 3am that it's time for bed. I've had to gaze a dog down in the midst of charging after my cats. I've climbed above soaring hawks, but haven't seen wild Eagles yet. Another of my cousins talks with them. I saw a fantastic show the other night on PBS about int'l eagle varieties. I had some native prayers for grounds restoration and the following day the news had two stories: plane flights were being routed around the grand canyon, and an eagle had layed an egg there.
I find telepathy with animals to be far easier than with humans.
I love the budgie story.

Hey, guess what? I have a new bird. The poor baby hit a power line. I've been taking care of her for a few weeks now.The top layer on her beak and eye-lids were burned as well as her flight feathers on one wing. She was so frightened and sad when I first got her. I put on antibiotic ointment and feed her baby cereal. I tell everyone she's a 'black macaw.' (Just between you and me, though, she's a feral pigeon) Her name is Aunt Harriette. Don't ask me where these names come from, they just DO. It's 'socially unpopular' to rescue a pigeon. I guess you've figured out by now that I couldn't care less WHAT society thinks of anything. As far as I'm concerned, it is the height of arrogance for humans to decide which of this planet's inhabitants get to live and die. They have every right to be here too. Someone had thrown that poor bird in the garbage. If they only knew how much personality they have! I've already got her 'paper-trained'. It will be a while before she can fly again, so in the meantime, my black macaw will be welcome. * smile *

That's so sweet! * smile * We hear the same thing around here. Everyone seems to hate the starlings, but we think they're cute. The babies follow the parents around with their mouths open wide, and they eat a lot of grubs out of our lawn, so that's a good thing. But most people don't seem to understand that. Jerks! * smile *

I rescued a sparrow from my cats this week, and left the dumpster propped open so the cutest baby possum could escape. We don't have any pigeons black enough to be mistaken for something else. We do have crows vist the apartment though. Maybe it's a harriete potter pigeon. I tried to get bird seed for them, but I guess they're actually carrion (& fast food) eaters. I've seen one eating a cheese & cracker packet, and even spicy hot fritos. They just ignorned my cornocopia of sunflowers and such.

I think the starlings are hated because we had a much more diverse collection of pretty birds before they arrived like a weed and usurped the other breeds.
