| jjg | posted 20-Jul-1998 2:53pm I don't know. I like it if I like it. |
| daver | posted 20-Jul-1998 2:59pm Function over form. I like or don't like something primarily because of what it does. Elegance of design also appeals to me... |
| FacelessShadow | posted 20-Jul-1998 3:06pm I like things because they have the right balance of elements, it is a sub-conscious "it just feels right" sort of thing |
| lisashea | posted 20-Jul-1998 3:12pm There isn't anything in particular that makes me like something - usually what it reminds me of. The things I have on my desk all remind me of special times with my SO or my son. |
| Jody | posted 20-Jul-1998 3:14pm I like pretty things (especially sparkly things), soft things, silly things, and especially clever things. I'm sentimental and like things that remind me of people, especially things I acquired (found or bought) when I was with them, or that they gave to me, or better yet made for me. |
| Atzilut | posted 20-Jul-1998 4:35pm superlatives are my _least_ favourite thing in the world |
| BadtzMaru | posted 20-Jul-1998 5:27pm I really like dark greens and burgundy. |
| emily | posted 20-Jul-1998 9:26pm My most treasured possessions are photographs of my family and little things my children picked out or made especially for me :) |
| Mimi | posted 20-Jul-1998 9:46pm My problem is that I get too attached to too many things. I have too many collections that really mean something to me. Most were started living and traveling abroad & they evoke such wonderful memories. Items must be pleasing visually and they need to remind me of something or someone. It also helps if they go together. I'm not a very eclectic person except when it comes to my friends or my reading. |
| BenevolentMagus | posted 21-Jul-1998 7:21am Basically, anything that goes along with my magical interests, from incense, candles, and oils to books on some appropriate area of study, like the chakras. |
| bill | posted 21-Jul-1998 8:35am I like things that I think will impress other people. I suspect that my own personal preferences are highly adaptable, I can like all sorts of things. Well, that's an exaggeration, but there's some truth in that. I like clever things that feel comfortable and remind me of special people in my life. |
| seven | posted 21-Jul-1998 12:06pm My favorite thing used to be my mind. But I lost that years ago. Sometimes people give me pieces of their minds. They are nice people. Nice people are good. I like cake. |
| bgoodman | posted 21-Jul-1998 12:56pm I guess I'm sentimental in terms of which posessions mean a lot to me. The things that evoke a memory or some emotion are the things I end up treasuring most. On the other hand, in terms of something like cloths or furniture, I'm attracted by dark, rich colors and by soft/fuzzy textures. |
| hunter | posted 21-Jul-1998 1:32pm I like things that have memories attached to them. I often buy "souvenirs" that are things I will use. Probably my favorite souvenir is a pair of Reebok hi-tops I bought on Fisherman's Wharf during my first visit to SF as an adult. My most treasured possession...well, that'd probably be my opal, because it represents a very hard-learned lesson about doing what I can to make myself happy. |
| romkey | posted 25-Jul-1998 1:22pm If it's fudgeed up :) |
| steve | posted 26-Jul-1998 11:48pm I think that my most treasured possession may be my chocolate tempering machine. Or possibly the pinball machine; I certainly use that more often, and it would cost more to replace. Oh, and you wanted "affect" in the question, not "effect"--"effect" as a verb means "to bring about", while "affect" means "to have an effect on". As a noun, "effect" is the one that relates to this, while "affect" has to do with emotion. They're tough. |
| nbarone | posted 28-Jul-1998 3:57pm wow...i had to check most of these (12 of them in fact). there are lots of reasons i might like something. yes, i have bought books because of the predominant color of the cover (green) (case in point, _Trouble and Her Friends_ by Melissa Scott, great book, even without the green-ness, but it helped). i especially like things that are so twisted and bizarre it makes my head spin to imagine that anyone could have created such a thing. |
| reality | posted 28-Jul-1998 3:58pm it depends.. I checked everything but won it (that doesn't matter), prestige (I have no need for it, I am content with my current fame) and the crying (I seem to be incapable at this point). I don't have a specific treasured possesion. |
| jzp | posted 29-Jul-1998 7:15am (treasured) serveral. one set are pictures of jennifer at work. one is my vinyl of negativland's _secret_single_. |
| Lorax | posted 30-Jul-1998 1:21pm blue, blue, blue, blue, blue |
| gilly | posted 31-Jul-1998 4:49pm Could be any of these - depends on the object and the stimulus. I tend to like things, in general - I mean, physical objects. |
| shadow | posted 15-Aug-1998 2:08am i really love anything that can make me cry.. just to remind me i can still feel something other than rage. generally, i love anything black or blue.. and i love silver. and my tori amos cd's.. if i lost those i'd just die.. |
| elijahblue | posted 19-Aug-1998 4:43pm It entirely depends on what the "it" is. |
