This is only for medicines prescribed for short-term, not chronic, illnesses.

| SueBee | posted 14-Apr-2001 2:46pm I finish it because I understand why that is necessary. I suppose if it made me feel sick or something I might be tempted to stop taking it, but I've never had that happen. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 14-Apr-2001 3:20pm But I haven't had a prescription like this in a long while. |
| LindaH | posted 14-Apr-2001 4:02pm One time I went back to the doc and said I didn't like it and didn't want to finish it. It made me tired all day. She said it was OK, it didn't matter that I didn't finish it. |
| Jemmy | posted 14-Apr-2001 4:33pm I always finish it all. |
| juliw | posted 14-Apr-2001 6:16pm I usually finish all of it. |
| dab | posted 14-Apr-2001 6:53pm The one time I didn't finish was because I was having a reaction I didn't like. |
| Zang | posted 14-Apr-2001 7:18pm I don't recall. I don't much trust doctors, so I don't see them very often, or get prescriptions. |
| romkey | posted 14-Apr-2001 9:02pm I haven't had many prescriptions. I didn't use up all the painkillers I got when my ankle was broken - partly because they didn't help as much as Advil did, partly because I didn't need them all. The couple of times I've had antibiotics I've stopped using them as soon as I felt better - I know that their job isn't necessarily done at that point. |
| Ethan | posted 14-Apr-2001 11:24pm If it's not an antibiotic, I usually stop taking it when I feel better. |
| ebaiz | posted 15-Apr-2001 8:48am I would be a fool not to. I am a pharmacist. |
| nasale | posted 15-Apr-2001 10:12am It depends. If it makes me sick to my stomach, I'd rather not take it. |
| heyzeus1 | posted 15-Apr-2001 10:19am My answer is other: only if its the kind of perscription that gets me high |
| SueBee | (reply to heyzeus1) posted 15-Apr-2001 11:59am Those aren't usually the ones they tell you to finish even after you feel better. |
| heyzeus1 | (reply to SueBee) posted 15-Apr-2001 12:14pm yeah but when i have those kind i pretend not to feel better yet |
| SueBee | (reply to heyzeus1) posted 15-Apr-2001 12:52pm I understand completely. I like those drugs, too! |
| jkiehart | posted 16-Apr-2001 10:00am Yes. If you don't, viruses or bacteria (antibiotics are only effective against one, and I can never remember which one it is)will mutate and will be unkillable. |
| Lois | posted 16-Apr-2001 4:19pm First of all, I avoid going to the doctor, unless for crisis care. The more you stay away from doctors, the healthier you will be. I'm not saying I would never go to a doctor, but more than likely it would be only for crisis care. I never have prescriptions filled, I go to the doctors for tests only. I may pay for it one day, but I'm against legalized drug pushing. |
| bubu | posted 16-Apr-2001 6:51pm I'll take any drug, as much as you got! Email me for info Wer123361143068@aol.com |
| nihon | (reply to jkiehart) posted 17-Apr-2001 12:26am Antibiotics are effective only against bacteria. Virii need a vaccine (for instance, the polio vaccine, the yearly influenza vaccines (a new one or more every year to handle the new mutations)). |
| actress | posted 17-Apr-2001 1:20am Never |
| joachim | posted 17-Apr-2001 12:27pm I've only ever had one prescription of this kind and I did not finish it. I felt pretty bad about that, though, because they were antibiotics and I now believe that I've done my part in making the world a safer place for super-diseases. |
| carissa | posted 17-Apr-2001 8:36pm Hardly ever, maybe that's why my strep throat always comes back |
| ASexyBabe | posted 18-Apr-2001 10:55am When people do not take all of the antibiotics that are prescribed them they make things harder on the rest of us. Not taking them all mutates the bug and makes scientists have to come up with new drugs to fight off the mutant bugs. This will be the reason that the world ends. Eventually there will be no drugs that can fight off the mutants and we will all die. So sad that this could have been prevented so easily. |
| Lahdee | posted 18-Apr-2001 12:54pm I usually do...It depends on what it's for. |
| nihon | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 19-Apr-2001 6:05pm You know, they do have one "drug" that kills all of them, inccluding any virus. It's pretty cheap, too, and you only have to take it once. It's called chlorine bleach. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to nihon) posted 20-Apr-2001 8:30am "Reads the side of the bottle".... side effect death |
| nihon | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 20-Apr-2001 3:15pm Awww, what's wrong with a little side effect if the drug is effective? |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to nihon) posted 20-Apr-2001 4:11pm I guess nothing if you have nothing to live for??!!?? |
| natsim | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 22-Apr-2001 10:07pm Although this can be a problem, overprescribing antibiotics is more likely to arise in mutant bacterial strains. |
| bcollins | posted 23-Apr-2001 1:37am I always finish it, but I haven't had a prescription like this in a long time. |
| actress | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 23-Apr-2001 11:07pm It's that deep, okay... |
| Matt | posted 24-Apr-2001 8:12am I had an allergic reaction to antibiotics and had to stop using them a day before finishing the prescription. |
| smurf | posted 26-Apr-2001 4:23am Definitely. After nursing training, I always tell people to finish their course of meds whether they feel better or not. |
| nihon | (reply to smurf) posted 26-Apr-2001 3:50pm Well, helloooooo Nurse Smurf! |
| smurf | (reply to nihon) posted 28-Apr-2001 2:29am |
| SueBee | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 28-Apr-2001 12:34pm Doctors should take the time to explain these kind of things to patients. Maybe if people were better educated about the consequences they would be more likely to follow doctors' orders. |
| SilverGhost | posted 28-Apr-2001 6:07pm No.. I'm a bad bad gurl. : -/ I even forget to take the medicine that I -HAVE- to take. Which reminds me----.... |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to SueBee) posted 30-Apr-2001 8:17am I think people should respect and admire Dr.s more and maybe when they say it is very important that you finish all of this medicine then people would listen. |
| Tyler_Smith | posted 2-May-2001 2:31am If I get better, I will take it for a while... then probably stop taking it. |
| SueBee | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 3-May-2001 12:48am Yeah, that would help, too. |
| dcmred | posted 3-May-2001 9:37pm Maybe "usually" is a little strong... |

Antinbiotic - if I remember; sedative - of course.
My friend ended up in the hospital for I don't know what.
He had pretty bad pain somewhere (I really can't remember).
He was allowed to call nurse when ever he wants to, and she would give him morphine.
Three days after, he was kicked out of the hospital, because he was calling her every five minutes.
