When eating a pear do you eat around it then work on the top and bottom, or do you start on the top and work down.

I don't really like pears, but I know myself well and chose answer #1.

It's habit. It's the only fruit I eat this way. All others(peaches, apples, plums), I eat around first.

I don't know if I've ever eaten a whole pear; I tend to peel them, cut them up, and poach them in wine, water, and ginger syrup.

Pears are sweet and juicy, that's why I eat them. I don't want to mess with the stems. (unless this is a trick question)

Bite off the stem, then eat it from the top down, including seeds etc, leaving only the calyx? (brown crunchy ex-flower bit).

I don't eat pears - they are one of the few fruits and vegetables that I dislike (along with papayas). That said, I haven't tried one in a long time, and a friend gave me a bite of an Asian pear which was a lot nicer than what I've had before.
