It wouldn't have done me any good to be embarrassed. Everybody knew my parents.

I was embarassed sometimes by how my family acted, and sometimes I was embarassed to be seen with them by certain friends, but I wasn't embarassed in general.

Yes. Especially during my earlier teens, with my parents. Other relatives, I don't recall being embarrassed, but it was a very long time ago...

I was raised by my grandmother from age 4. She was always lecturing my sister & I on what girls do and don't do. Can't play baseball, that's for boys-stuff like that. It drove my sister & me crazy, especially my sister because she was a tomboy.

I know how you feel. What the hell is up with that whole boys aren't supposed to cry bullcrap? My arm was caught in the air conditioner for fudge's sake! And I was 5 years old!

I know. Total, complete bullcrap. What about the line, "If you don't stop crying, I'll give you something to cry about!" Makes great sense doesn't it? It used to infuriate my grandmother if I refused to cry when being spanked. She'd just lay it on harder, but I refused to give her the satisfaction. I was very stubborn even then.

No. Even though my father is really eccentric in public I have grown up with that so I never get embarrassed by him.

It never bothered me. I'm normally the one that would embarrass them.

Not that I remember, though my mother would often do somewhat nutty things... She picked me up from school, and went to the grocery store, in her pajamas for example. She'd sing and dance in the parking garage at the mall.
Before I was a teenager, though, I wouldn't let my parents drive me all the way to school because I was embarrassed of being seen in our car -- a sparkly bright purple Saab 900.

No, never. I am a teen and I think it's silly when other kids my age act as if it makes them seem more mature when they are without their parents. A mature person doesn't make a big deal about the eccentric ways of the people he/she is with.

I was particularly displeased when mom was drunk stumbling down the sidewalk, leaning on the law school where she taught, explaining to my friend that she would have to sit in the front seat next to her and help her stay between the little white lines. I couldn't tell if she thought she was being funny or not.

My dad liked to go into restaurants, eat a whole basket of bread (sometimes two), then make a loud fuss about how over-priced the menu was and leave in a huff. If we did stay, he would eat his whole meal then complain loudly about how it was badly cooked and demand to have it taken off the check. He did this so often that it was years and years before my sister or I could stand to complain about anything to a waiter.

I didn't really spend much time with them, actually. I moved out of my mother's house when I was 16.

Yes because my parents are always embarrassing me in public and yelling at me a lot so if we're at a store, i just say i'll meet them later and take off! Plus, when my 9 yr. old sis goes for walks with me, she has to take this stroller with baby dolls in it and when she gets tired, i have to push it and it's embarrassing!

I'm a teenager and I don't care what others think. My family is my family and I can't change that, so what?

Yes! I hated my mother, and despised my father!--- But I looked up to my brother.

My mother still makes me cringe. I love my father more then anything, and my brother's a geek... heh.. but I still love him.
