I thought pepperoni and salami were essentially the same thing... so what is pepperoni actually?

If you want to be pedantic, then the term "salami" refers to the generic family of dry-cured sausages, which includes pepperoni. However, if you went into a deli and asked for just "salami" you'd probably get one of the softer, larger versions which don't have any other name. Those with more specific recipes - such as pepperoni - tend to have more specific names. Pepperoni has peppers in it (hence the name) and has a hotter or "spicier" taste than most soft salamis. Pepperoni sausages are usually smaller than generic salamis. There's a basic definition at http://allrecipes.com/encyc/terms/P/7863.asp

There are a whole load of different dry-cured meat sausages, of which pepperoni and salami are only two. They are all made in much the same way, the essential difference is the mix that goes into them and how they are flavoured.

I only know of one place that has it, its really good, but not a lot of people want to try it, those who do usually end up liking it a lot!

Yeah, I tend to think of Pepperoni as being about 3 or 4cm (compared to 6 or 7cm for 'salami') wide and a bit hotter... but it still doesn't really seem all that pedantic a query. I've never seen the phrase "pepperoni and salami" so it made me rethink.

Actually if I walked into a deli and said "I want some salami" they'd sigh at me and ask "What type of salami? We have a dozen!"

I love cranberry sauce on Pizza I don't know why but it tastes really good especially if u add pineapple try it :)

My two favorites: tomatoes, spinach and zucchini; spicy sausage, pineapple and spinach. Try it sometime! (Barbecue chicken, broccoli and banana peppers is a good combo, too)
