I went to a website once that listed all kinds of dumb laws, but can not remember any of them offhand, or even the name of the website. I notice that pillows always have those little tags that you are not supposed to remove. I wonder if anyone has ever actually been arrested for removing those little tags.

There used to be a sign on one of our downtown streets that said "Blind cross here". I know that it meant to watch for blind people, but every time I saw it, I would think to myself that since blind people couldn't see the sign, they would not be able to obey the sign.

In Minnesota it is illegal to cut hair without a license. About five years ago some charity organization decided to give homeless/poor people haircuts so they could look nicer and have a better chance getting a job. Then law enforcement stopped the event because of the stupid law!

This happened in Florence, Oregon in 1975(the law is no longer on the books)-A law was passed to outlaw sex on public beaches within the city limits of Florence, Oregon. However, the law was so poorly written that it outlawed sex anywhere in the city limits of Florence, Oregon-even in your own home.

Try: http://www.dumblaws.com I don't think they prosecute you for removing tags from pillows. The last time I bought pillows it said that the tag was not to be removed except by owner, so I wouldn't worry about the police bashing down your door in the middle of the night. * grin *

The Mayor of Vancouver passed a by-law recently which disallowed 24 hour establishments in the downtown eastside. The reasoning being that there is a heroin problem, and the drug deals are taking place near these establishments! * laughing out loud * So, of course, I'm happy to report that you can no longer buy heroin anywhere in Vancouver. The dealers just up and moved to the suburbs. * laughing out loud * * grin *

I imagine a lot of silly laws are kept on the books because what is the point in removing them? They're not enforced, they're not harming anybody, and to remove them you would have to go through the legal process to do so: which costs the taxpayers money... so why bother?

There is a state law in New Jersey enacted in 1918 that states that the family of a person who is committed to a state institution must assist in the paying of that person's care. This was on ABCnews.com because a brother & sister whose father sexually molested them as children and was committed to a psychiatric hospital because of that are being told they have to pay the state of New Jersey $90,000 annually for their father's care. There are no provisions in the law for victims of abuse. I know this is not a silly law, but it is certainly a BAD law! They are appealing.
