Wow, you stop at 53. I intend to be going till 120 (physically). I keep learning and maturing but I can't hop around the mountains and canyons like I could 20 years ago. A younger body, but I'd never stop growing mentally. It is my goal to be omniscient and omnipotent. It may still take some more time.

I realize that. My point is suppose the list was "0-5, 5-10, 15 or over" and my point is that a lot of life can happen after 53. George Burns was an actor with vivacity til his goal of 100 years.

An adult 25-28? I'm not sure, because I'm not there yet, but to me, that would seem to be the age where things start to fall into place, and yet there's still the naivety of youth to mess things up a little and make it interesting. That could extend to any age, though, really, depends on the person. Oh heck I don't know.

It depends on whether or not picking an earlier age would mean going back to my life as it was then. It would be great to have a younger, fitter body and still keep the knowledge and experience I have now, but if that wasn't possible then I value the knowledge and experience more.

20-24. Perfect age. you can drink, dont have to answer to anyone, it's the perfect age for getting married and having children but you are still young and supple enough to go out and have a great time with your mates at the club. Unfortunately road tax for this age group is very high...

My goodness, hmm.. A couple weeks ago I started a prescription to quit smoking and doubled my consumption instead, so I know how it goes. I don't really have any weaknesses of that sort, and haven't for a dozen years. I quit everything at once and had the incentive that the entire world I knew was being replaced where god was visible in everything, perhaps I was even to leave the material plane altogether quite shortly (I didn't as you can see). Even with that enormous impetus, I wasn't able to get below 2 cigarettes and moved back up to 7-12 in a couple months (once I realized I was staying). What I can suggest is breaking all your routines at once, and find vastly different new things to do. Have you noticed how on vacations you can do without TV, your favorite foods, your pets, etc.? I've noticed that internet chat can leave one comfortable yet unsatiated at once. It doesn't employ the body or other senses at all, so we make up for it with things like eating. What kind of physical life do you have these days? You're a night bird, and probably not because you're usually out dancing. That too is sensory deprivation. Are you really eating because of cravings, or actually because of boredom or some other brand of unfullfillment? How is your family and love life? We also eat because it subconsciously reminds us of family gatherings, lovingly prepared meals, and romantic dinners. Have you been reading the posts on dieting I wrote for Twisty? Highlights of that include: only eat meals prepared from scratch; put away the excess (even wash the dishes) before you settle down to eat; only eat as a highly aware ritual (no mindless snacking); and only eat real food with real fat and sugar, otherwise you'll just crave more.

Some other tricks that worked to quit smoking: tell yourself you can have all you want, 2 packs if you want, and have them handy, but every time you're tempted ask yourself "Can I hold out longer?" "Is there something more productive I can be doing?" {..and if there's not, it's time to get a life again.}
Hopefully I said something useful in there.
I just went on a bird rescue. I found lots of stuff under my bed in pursuit, and made it out to the yard in time to get the newspaper I might have otherwise forgotten until too late. Thankfully these guys (my cats)(bells on their collars) bring the critters in quite live.

Your suggestions above sound pretty good. I know, for me, eating is really more habit than anything. My friend invites me to Amish country, and I think "Oh, good, those Amish restaurants have such good food!" I heard somewhere that you should eat ONLY in the kitchen or dining room, and set up the table as if you were having company, even if you are home alone. That way, you are more likely to be aware of what you are eating. So many times, I just grab "a few" chips or something on my way into the living room, and don't even think about it. How about calling ourselves the SC Slimmers?

I just found my old fat gram counter, and I was wrong about angel food cake being TOTALLY fat free, but get this, 1/12 of the cake has only .2 grams of fat, so I figure you could eat the whole thing and only have 2.4 grams of fat. Of course, the 1/12 of a cake has 161 calories, so you're better off just having a piece or two. And, I also associate food with holidays. the mall, and amusement parks.
juliw
(reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 24-Jun-2001 5:55pm
I was wrong. 1/12 of an angel food cake has .2 grams of fat, but at least, there is no saturated fat of cholesterol. Still, at 161 calories and .2 grams of fat, a piece is sure a lot better for you than most desserts. The whole cake only would have 2.4 grams of fat. By the way, I asked mandy if she wanted to join the Hula Club, and she didn't want to right now, but wishes us luck, and may want to join sometime in the future. Aloha!

I am too.Tonight I'm grilling some chicken on the barbie, with a side of tossed green salad & lots of grapefruit juice. The key is to make it look appealing to the eyes.

Sounds good. You're right. It does really help to make the food look appealing. I am going to eat fruit for dinner. I had a little of that chinese food for lunch( kind of a chicken stir fry. My mom bought some snack packs of diet jello with fruit in them, so I might just have one of those for dinner. I haven't been feeling really great for a couple days, so don't have much of an appetite. I have kind of a cold or upper respiratory infection or something.

I need support,
I'm just not ready to diet.
I can't.
I won't.

I refuse to deny myself. It makes me miserable.

Oooooooh Okay IC.
I don't want to either but,I gotta do something. My pants are getting too tight on me now.I have no choices left.I refuse to buy me new clothe.I'm cheap like that.Like right now it's really hot(87%)& I refuse to turn on the AC.I'm sitting here in my t-shirt & shorts typing to you.
I don't blame you, about not wanting to deny yourself & make yourself miserable.I was there a couple minutes ago.I love food, believe me this not going to be easy for me.I'm really weak when it comes to food.I gave up cigarettes no problem,I have a ZIMA occasionally,& I haven't done any drugs since my kids were born.My only hang up now is FOOD.
Well,if & when you'd like to join the little support group,by all means jump on in there.Or if you have some helpful tips or recipes to share please think of us.Thanks again for wishing us luck on our quest. * smile *

And yet you are miserable anyhow.
Don't think of youself as dieting, consider yourself as alien being emulating some culture that thrives on raw fish and vegetables or something. Make it into a living art like learning a foreign cultures language or tastes in art. Another tactic (less recommended) is to pollute your joy; consider butterfat equitable with grunge that sticks between the dirty toes of mayan sacrifice priests or the stuff that floats in grease traps after a fast food floor is hot-hosed, and conspirators have been putting that foul stuff on the grocery shelves and brainwashing you into paying extra for it. Gross. Give me even a rotten orange anytime over that smegma green nose goo sludge found in ice-cream and corn chips. Barf.

Deepak Chopra wrote the only dieting advice I think is essential. He pointed out that calorie counting is too fallable; that even being off by a tablespoon of peanutbutter a day would quickly gain you 10 pounds. He pointed out that we really know the moment we've had enough to eat. The trick is to stop eating the moment that you realize you don't 'need' another bite. Anything more is eating purely for entertainments sake, and comes with a price.
