| cody | posted 20-Feb-2001 11:24pm Attn: Bill, technical dificulties! |
| smurf | posted 21-Feb-2001 12:24am What type of credit should the US get? Isn't it about time people/nations started helping others just out of kindness, instead of expecting some kind of credit or reward? |
| anonymous | posted 21-Feb-2001 1:01am I think the US should mind its own business. It doesn't get enough ridicule for a nosy-ass neighbour. |
| jjg | posted 21-Feb-2001 7:32am I live in the US. I only view US news outlets. I don't know what kind of credit the US gets for anything. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to cody) posted 21-Feb-2001 9:05am What's the dificulty? |
| jettles | posted 21-Feb-2001 9:08am yes i think we do. i also don't think we do or should do the things we do because of the "credit" we do or don't get. it's bad enough that most times we only get involved outside of the US if we have some monetary interest in a country or investment of some type. the actions we take are usually not pure benevolence on our part. |
| jettles | (reply to smurf) posted 21-Feb-2001 9:09am i agree smurf! but most people would call us naive... |
| jettles | (reply to anonymous) posted 21-Feb-2001 9:10am why is this anonymously done?? |
| KelBel | posted 21-Feb-2001 9:32am I think maybe the problem is that the United States needs to aide countries out of altruism, rather than egotism...helping another country should not depend on whether you receive the "credit" for it...it should be based on empathy and compassion...and nothing should be expected in return except a good feeling that you are part of that country that helps others. |
| Andyroo | posted 21-Feb-2001 9:45am Hmmm....could this survey be displaying what a bunch of Americans on SC jumped on me for, awhile ago? I think it might...interesting... It's not nice when your country isn't recognized for good deeds is it? lol Now you know why Canadians are so frustrated when some of you know nothing about us and yet still make comments about what's wrong with us. And now maybe you'll understand why so many Canadians come on here and start arguments when certain things are said...it's because we don't get noticed either and we're getting sick of the stereotypes and misconceptions...but it's really not a big deal because at least I know in my mind that Canada does help others and I am proud to be a part of my country no matter what people claim about it's "boring" history or how alike we are to our southern neighbours. And another thing...you guys are the most powerful nation...and yes...you do good things, and you do what can be viewed as not so good sometimes, but when you're on the top...everyone isn't always going to like you or agree with you on issues and people expect that you have the resources and the capability to aide them in their time of need. that's just something that comes with the territory. I won't make this anonymous like someone else did in the survey. I'm not a chicken crap |
| mandy | posted 21-Feb-2001 11:04am Whoa...this passed with a few errors. Who is asleep at the wheel? As for the survey itself. The whole point of helping people...shouldn't be about being recognized or credited. In fact the best and noblest acts are done without thought of recognition or credit. |
| mandy | posted 21-Feb-2001 11:08am To the five people who voted this reasonable in qualification: What were you thinking???????? Didn't you see all the capitalization and spelling errors or are we not requiring those things be fixed before a survey is released anymore? |
| Enheduanna | posted 21-Feb-2001 11:21am Sometimes, but we also get a lot of crap for "interfering" all the time. |
| ASexyBabe | posted 21-Feb-2001 12:28pm kate natsim Strider Richard Andyroo Did you look at the survey before you voted it reasonable? |
| jkiehart | posted 21-Feb-2001 2:30pm This is one bad survey! Who doesn't know 'I' is supposed to be capitalized?? Sheesh. Since I only log on Monday thru Friday, I can only assume this sneaked through on a weekend. No. Really. This is bad. |
| cody | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 21-Feb-2001 3:54pm This survey getting through qualification! HA! |
| spidertea | posted 21-Feb-2001 4:06pm Groan... I used to edit the school newspaper so this survey just makes my skin crawl! So many simple mistakes. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to cody) posted 21-Feb-2001 4:21pm I tried to stop it but bill took away my power |
| cody | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 21-Feb-2001 4:23pm Your serious? Uh oh, maybe Im next! |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to cody) posted 21-Feb-2001 4:28pm What I meant by that was that I used to be able to stop a bad survey with one needs work vote. Look in the advanced stats I was working on stopping it but I had not enough help. |
| juliw | posted 21-Feb-2001 6:14pm I agree with the people who said we should help others without expecting 'credit" in return. I also think that sometimes we help other countries that have something to offer us in return, when there are so many Americans that need help and do not receive it. |
| Maarten | posted 21-Feb-2001 6:30pm Too much I guess. They still owe the UN billions of dollars. |
| romkey | posted 21-Feb-2001 6:46pm why is it so very terrible that a survey with poor spelling or grammar got through? Do you not understand the question? |
| smurf | (reply to jettles) posted 21-Feb-2001 6:52pm True, but I still believe it. |
| mandy | (reply to romkey) posted 21-Feb-2001 7:47pm nope...but my monkey was all over it |
| cody | (reply to ASexyBabe) posted 21-Feb-2001 8:00pm Oh, I thought you meant that bill had denied you! hehe. |
| Zang | posted 21-Feb-2001 10:53pm What a preposterous statement (and a bad survey to boot!) all of the "aid" that the US government hands out is politically motivated. They don't do it out of kindness or generosity, they do it to manipulate other governments. What a pile of crap! Who ever made this survey must be extremely naive. |
| romkey | (reply to mandy) posted 21-Feb-2001 11:01pm monkey brain! monkey brain! |
| Nat | (reply to jjg) posted 22-Feb-2001 9:28pm The U.S. doesn't get much positive press up here, credit-wise or otherwise. (Up here being Canada, you know, sometimes referred to as the 51st State) |
| hildagard | posted 23-Feb-2001 5:34pm What the hell is wrong with your grammar, survey creator? There should be a comma after 'no', and I is always capitalized. And after yes, in third 'yes' oprtion, there should not be space between 'yes' and a comma. And yes, it's don't, not dont |
| romkey | (reply to hildagard) posted 23-Feb-2001 8:57pm why are you so upset about it? |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to hildagard) posted 23-Feb-2001 9:57pm I don't understand what you are so upset about half the time you comment I can't figure out what the hell you are talking about. You use words that don't belong where you put them. |
| anonymous | (reply to hildagard) posted 23-Feb-2001 11:35pm What is the big deal about spelling and grammer? CAN YOU READ IT?And then people wonder why some of us want to remain anonymous.Im not the worlds best speller either.OHHHHHH WELLLLLL! |
| Jemmy | (reply to anonymous) posted 24-Feb-2001 10:35am Neither is she. |
| anonymous | (reply to Jemmy) posted 24-Feb-2001 2:28pm well i just hope shes not a teacher because if she is her students im sure have very low self esteem (did you happen to notice my lack of punctuation) run on sentence the whole works.......but i bet its legible of course this wasnt done on perpose oh i misspelled ohhhhhhhhhhhh welllllllllllll........beat me with a wet noodle ....pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee |
| Jemmy | (reply to anonymous) posted 24-Feb-2001 10:04pm I noticed it, but I could read it. Not that I don't believe in fixing things like that, because I don't think it should be like this, but I really think there was no need for her to be that harsh. I sincerely doubt she is a teacher. |
