| smurf | posted 6-Feb-2001 6:23pm Most of the time. I couldn't survive without it! |
| mandy | posted 6-Feb-2001 6:26pm I never pray I do something I call sending out positive thoughts |
| hildagard | posted 6-Feb-2001 6:41pm I do it everyday before I go to sleep, saying the prayer from the book of prayers, and when I go to the church, in front of the icon. |
| anonymous | posted 6-Feb-2001 6:48pm God couldn't give a rat's ass about our prayers |
| Ronin | posted 6-Feb-2001 7:28pm I pray mother earth will forgive us when we try to heal the damage done. |
| Lauren | posted 6-Feb-2001 9:27pm I used to pray, but... not anymore. |
| Richard | posted 6-Feb-2001 11:36pm I chant: HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE HARE RAMA HARE RAMA RAMA RAMA HARE HARE http://www.iskcon.org/hkindex |
| jkiehart | posted 6-Feb-2001 11:48pm I thank God I met Maarten on SC every day! And Jenny and mandy and I don't even know who else because it's late and I've had a lot of Heinekiens and vodka shots tonight. I love you all. What was I saying? I like drinking! Let's not forget the pot. Thank GOD for pot. And Marlboro lights. And my job, even though it pisses me off, I love it. I pray often. |
| Andyroo | posted 7-Feb-2001 12:11am When I was just a lil tyke I used to say 1 of 2 things before I went off to dreamland... Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord, my soul to keep and if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. OR Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, bless the bed that I lay on. |
| magbast | posted 7-Feb-2001 1:49am not on purpose |
| Zang | posted 7-Feb-2001 2:23am Sometimes. Not every day or anything, but fairly often. Mostly for thanks. Occasionally for someone in need. Never for any benefit to myself, and I would NEVER do one those "deals". |
| KelBel | posted 7-Feb-2001 11:36am I pray sometimes, but I never know what to say. |
| Jemmy | posted 7-Feb-2001 5:19pm I rarely pray, but only when someone is hurt or I am scared, and I don't believe in God. |
| autumnlight | posted 8-Feb-2001 6:25am I don't believe in God. |
| juliw | (reply to Andyroo) posted 8-Feb-2001 7:00pm I used to say those same two prayers as a child. Now, I try to make my prayers more conversational, although not out loud. I ask for favors for myself and/or others, ask for forgiveness, give thanks, and remember the dead, especially my dad. I feel certain that my dad is in heaven, so does not need my prayers, but I just like to remember him in my prayers. |
| natsim | (reply to KelBel) posted 8-Feb-2001 7:38pm It doesn't matter that you don't know what to say... |
| KelBel | (reply to natsim) posted 8-Feb-2001 9:12pm I feel dumb though when I'm like and ummm...and uhhh....and I'm like okay, wait...let me start over...lol |
| natsim | (reply to KelBel) posted 8-Feb-2001 10:41pm I feel like that sometimes too, but you know that the one you're praying to doesn't see it the same way. It's like when babies try to talk...their parents think it's fabulous even though it sounds absurd and they even understand it. (I don't know if that's a good analogy, but I hope it's helpful). |
| KelBel | (reply to natsim) posted 8-Feb-2001 11:22pm It kind of is. Thanks |
| ASexyBabe | posted 9-Feb-2001 10:06am Some things I say may sound like I am praying but I don't believe in god so NO I don't pray. |
| Maarten | (reply to jkiehart) posted 9-Feb-2001 1:21pm You make me blush, gurl! |
| cody | posted 9-Feb-2001 2:03pm Religion was the worst thing ever to happen to this planet, just let it go people. Welcome to *reality*, granted, its harsh, but you dont need to lie to yourself to make it seem better. |
| cody | (reply to cody) posted 9-Feb-2001 2:05pm Wait, I take that back. In the early days it served a purpose of unifying and bringing people together, but those days are over. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to cody) posted 10-Feb-2001 10:32pm You know talking to yourself is a sign of insanity! |
| brodycog | posted 11-Feb-2001 6:55am I need to thank God more for the gifts that he brings me every day. To ask forgivness for the people I offend and hurt every day. I need to pray way more often then I do right now. Because it only took God a fraction of a second to creat me and everthing that I know, but it has taken me my whole life to appreciate that. |
| Mika | posted 11-Feb-2001 5:03pm I pray to the trees, I'm a druid |

| magbast | (reply to anonymous) posted 11-Feb-2001 7:09pm pray for a dictionary... |
| anonymous | posted 11-Feb-2001 9:34pm praying isnt just asking for what you want..it's talking to god..who wants a relationship with us. |
| anonymous | (reply to magbast) posted 11-Feb-2001 9:39pm no one is perfect, even when spelling..you need to be polite to people, not everyone is a perfect speller..good lord. |
| Jeanne | posted 12-Feb-2001 12:18pm I pray and thank God for the many blessings I have in life; my family, my friends, my shelter, my food, everything that I have been blessed with. In today's world, many people blame God for their misfortunes, very sad indeed. Life is what we make of it, good or bad. If people choose not to follow God's laws, they will be punished. There is built-in punishment with disobeying God's Word. People, in reality, punish themselves. With God's guidance, we can benefit. The wealth of a good heart, through God's Word is more important than all the material riches in the world. |
| jkiehart | (reply to Maarten) posted 12-Feb-2001 12:31pm YOU make ME blush! |
| Maarten | (reply to jkiehart) posted 12-Feb-2001 1:06pm No, no, no... YOU make ME blush! And so on, and so on... |

| lara | (reply to juliw) posted 14-Feb-2001 3:00pm and natsim: I think the baby/parent analogy is an excellent one. I recently read (unfortunately I can't remember where) that the best prayers are wordless. |
| princeton222 | posted 14-Feb-2001 5:19pm I hate to say i usually fall asleep saying them |
| KissofTreachery | posted 14-Feb-2001 7:09pm I don't condemn any who disagree, but I can't trust a book with running my life. I believe what I feel to be true. I'm not Satanist; you can't be Satanist without being Christian, actually. I'm an ex-Wiccan turned Atheist, and I don't accept any attempts at conversion. Don't waste your time. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 15-Feb-2001 8:21pm It depends on your definition. When anything that meets my senses goes awry, when I pass high traffic areas or gatherings of people, when I need direction (most of the time), and as I drift to sleep. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to Zang) posted 15-Feb-2001 8:34pm My definition is more like Twisty's: sending out positive energy, and interactively being one with everything. Zang: I'm often (usually?) in states where any physical manifestation from getting music onto my speakers to getting ink to flow from pen to paper won't happen without prayer. It would be selfish of me to not be here to serve others, and without prayer I would entropy into non-existence. |
| therave | posted 24-Feb-2001 6:29pm often, that is why God is up there, and he cares |
| nasale | posted 25-Feb-2001 12:28pm I don't exactly pray because I don't agree with organized religion.I am still questioning what I do believe because it changes with experience. I am tilting towards believing in 'something more after death' but I guess I'll have to wait and see what that is (or not) |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to nasale) posted 26-Feb-2001 5:19am What does prayer have to do with organised religion? There are many levels of death and birth, so many available on this (somewhat) physical plane in this life. Why wait? |
| WildBill | posted 3-Mar-2001 7:58pm Prayer and meditation go hand in hand |
| nasale | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 16-Mar-2001 8:25pm I really like your way of thinking- and you're right. I appreciate the fact that you give me pause for second thought. |

| Kristal_Rose | (reply to nasale) posted 16-Mar-2001 11:17pm Just thinking good thoughts to strangers is a form of prayer. As I bicycle through town I choose different sorts of prayers (mostly just spectral energy projections) for each passing car. After my 'dates' with my new girl friend I've had people yell insults at me (I'm transgendered). The other night after a date, I had some guy follow me to the market yelling insults. He was next to me in line where I just gazed into his eyes with what I might call Gebvurah or Jesus energy. As I exited the store he said 'God bless you', and I nodded to indicate 'that's more like it'. My point is positive energy can be quite a life saver. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to mandy) posted 16-Mar-2001 11:22pm I'm shouldn't be pushing you should I? You already keep the torch alive. |
| nasale | (reply to Kristal_Rose) posted 1-Apr-2001 8:07pm People can find any number of reasons to hate, that's for sure.I wish I had your spirit and tenacity. I'm not 'evolved' enough yet, I guess. I can imagine it took a lot for you to get there. Just know that there are those of us that couldn't give two hoots of how you got there (male-female) we respect you for the part of you that we've gotten to know-at least I do. |
| Kristal_Rose | (reply to nasale) posted 2-Apr-2001 8:19am Everyone has their own obstacles, mine just serve as an example of what can be overcome. It takes constant vigilance; capacity and conscience evolve together. Thank you. |
