| Lauren | posted 22-Jan-2001 7:01pm No, I am an atheist. I don't believe in God, so why would I worship the devil? It doesn't make sense. I do believe that man should make his own life what he wants out of it, and I want people to be happy. Does that sound like someone who is a devil worshipper? |
| Maarten | posted 22-Jan-2001 7:01pm No. The devil is also something from the fairy tale book called the bible. I don't believe there's a god, I also don't believe there's the devil. It's all made up. |
| mandy | posted 22-Jan-2001 11:46pm depends on the Atheist |
| confetti | posted 23-Jan-2001 1:57am Who cares, man? |
| confetti | posted 23-Jan-2001 1:59am Why can't we rate a survey as * boring * , Bill? |
| bill | posted 23-Jan-2001 9:12am I'm an atheist and I don't worship the Devil. I do like to watch movies and read books about the Devil though, he makes an entertaining fictional character (just like God). |
| bill | (reply to confetti) posted 23-Jan-2001 9:12am I'll get right on that. |
| bill | (reply to MrsOvenMit) posted 23-Jan-2001 9:15am Actually, if you think about it. It's impossible for an atheist to be a devil worshipper. Only someone who believes in God can be a Satanist. A Satanist is someone who believes in God and the Devil, but who chooses to worship the Devil instead of God like everyone else. Satan does not exist outside of religious belief. |
| romkey | (reply to bill) posted 23-Jan-2001 9:19am I think some christians believe that anyone who doesn't worship god is inherently in the devil's service and therefore devil worshippers. There are some leaps of logic in there, of course, but those are the least of the problems with this idea. |
| bill | (reply to romkey) posted 23-Jan-2001 9:28am yes, but that's just what religious leaders tell them... it isn't true... oh, but I suppose they tell them a lot of stuff that isn't true. hmm... perspective is everything I suppose. |
| cpierson | posted 23-Jan-2001 9:34am "No" doesn't begin to answer this question. It really needs an "Of course not -- why would you think that?" option. |
| jjg | posted 23-Jan-2001 9:42am I don't see in you definition, "and worships devils." So my answer is no. |
| bill | posted 23-Jan-2001 9:49am I have an issue with Mirriam-Webster's definition as well. I don't deny the existence of God. That sounds like they're saying that God obviously exists and I'm denying it. I just think God doesn't exist, that it's just something people made up a long time ago to explain things they don't understand and make themselves feel better. |
| Jody | posted 23-Jan-2001 10:03am I believe people cannot truly be called atheists unless they do not worship anyone at all. |
| MrsOvenMit | posted 23-Jan-2001 10:28am An explanation for the "creation" of this survey (sorry it's so boring, confetti) -- I AM an Atheist, and have recently been called a "devil-worshipper" by several people. I brought this up to my sociology professor because it surprised me that people in my class didn't seem to understand that Atheists don't believe in a higher power - good or bad. Through some urging of my professor, this topic has been turned into a research paper. I appreciate all who are responding. Thank you. |
| ASB | posted 23-Jan-2001 11:39am I am an atheist and do not worship the devil. I do not even believe in the devil or god. |
| jkiehart | posted 23-Jan-2001 12:58pm Um, no. Can't believe in the Devil if you don't believe in God. |
| jettles | (reply to MrsOvenMit) posted 23-Jan-2001 3:11pm great screen name--mrsovenmitt. cool! |
| Jemmy | posted 23-Jan-2001 3:25pm No. Atheists don't believe in god or the devil, so how can they worship it? |
| Jemmy | (reply to bill) posted 23-Jan-2001 3:27pm That's what I thought when I read it. The dictionary definition seems to be kind of bias. |
| micah | posted 23-Jan-2001 5:03pm ...boy could I go off on this one... |
| they | posted 23-Jan-2001 5:42pm Uh... no?!! |
| Maarten | (reply to micah) posted 23-Jan-2001 5:46pm Please do! |
| ReKhosGirl4ever | posted 23-Jan-2001 6:05pm An Atheist, like you said, is someone who doesn't believe in God. Therefore, they do not worship anybody. They believe in creating their own destiny. |
| ReKhosGirl4ever | posted 23-Jan-2001 6:10pm People call me a devil worshipper just because I'm Wiccan. I hate when people call someone a devil worshipper just because of their beliefs. It makes me angry. |
| Zang | posted 23-Jan-2001 9:11pm Although others might argue differently, it seems to me that an atheist is someone who pooh-poohs the entire notion of "otherworldly" spiritual beings and such. Therefor, no. This reminds me of something I read. An interesting argument in which some Christians propose that the Horned God worshiped by Wiccans is Satan. The Wiccans argue that they don't believe in Satan, or Christianity, therefore the statement is false. Personally, I find fault in the logic of the Wiccans. It seems to me that a spiritual entity could go by two names, and reveal himself to different individuals in different guises. Neither position can be proved, but the argument is an interesting one. BTW congratulations! This is the first survey I've ever seen get out of qualification with a reference to "I'm doing this for school" still intact! |
| romkey | (reply to micah) posted 24-Jan-2001 11:09am go for it! |
| micah | (reply to Maarten) posted 24-Jan-2001 2:25pm ...but it's so rude calling people hair brained idiots. I keep telling myself that one should never blame another for their actions or beliefs, if those actions or beliefs are in accordance with their level of development. That one should only encourage progress and do so with love.......unless they think that Atheists are devil-worshipers. That's just silly. Besides, every time I talk smack, I make an ass of myself. |
| spidertea | posted 26-Jan-2001 10:21am no |
| Lana77 | posted 3-Feb-2001 4:47pm No they are not. Stupid survey. |
| natsim | posted 7-Feb-2001 11:34pm Does a devil-worshipper believe that the devil is god, though? That's a much more interesting question.... |
| smurf | posted 8-Feb-2001 1:20am I'd just like to point out that not many Christians believe that atheists are devil-worshippers. I am a Christian, and I don't believe they are. I generally agree with what is being said - if you don't believe in the devil, how can you worship him? |
| juliw | posted 18-Feb-2001 6:01pm I think that, since Atheists do not believe in God, they probably do not believe in any "higher power", so they are therefore not Satan worshippers. I believe that Satan is a fallen angel, so an Atheist would probably believe in angels, either. |
| juliw | posted 18-Feb-2001 6:03pm I meant to say an Atheist would probably not believe in angels. I am too lazy to type the whole comment again. |
| LindaH | posted 22-Jul-2008 1:10pm No. wtf! |
