| LindaH | posted 19-Jan-2001 12:00pm I'm going to take 3 months off work, but I'm not going anywhere. |
| SueBee | posted 19-Jan-2001 12:20pm No. I don't think a weekend getaway really counts as a vacation, and that's about all we have planned. I don't think we'll be able to stand it for more than another year or two though, and then we'll splurge. The new amusement park next to Disneyland is calling my name! |
| SueBee | (reply to bill) posted 19-Jan-2001 12:27pm Whistler, B. C.? (Is there any other?) That's practically in our neighborhood! |
| Wicksy | posted 19-Jan-2001 12:47pm Canada hopefully. I would like to visit Jemmy if possible! |

| Biggles | posted 19-Jan-2001 2:24pm I haven't been on one since 1998. Before that we went somewhere by the sea for a week every summer. I've never been further than Wales (I live in England) so *if* we go, it won't be anywhere exotic. Maybe Whitby. |
| mary | (reply to Maarten) posted 19-Jan-2001 3:02pm And after London, are you coming to Boulder, Colorado? |
| Jemmy | posted 19-Jan-2001 3:36pm I don't usually plan to go on vacation. I go and visit my Dad and stepmother and brother, but sometimes they come here. I think this summer I am going to visit them. My idea of vacation is going to the beach, laying in the sun and chilling with my friends. |

| Maarten | (reply to Wicksy) posted 19-Jan-2001 3:56pm Actually I was invited to come to London (Wood Green) soon by people I met in a pub last Wednesday. So who knows? |

| SueBee | (reply to jettles) posted 20-Jan-2001 2:06pm Too cool! Gay pride in New York must be a very empowering experience. The only one I've ever been to was in Seattle, and I'm sure New York's is MUCH larger. And Disney World sounds like loads of fun. There's so much to see & do there. Will you have time to do it all? |

| Wicksy | (reply to Maarten) posted 20-Jan-2001 3:56pm It's strange. I often say "come and see us" and I am talking about just me. I am not sure if it just an English thing but it's used in that context often!! |

| juliw | posted 21-Jan-2001 6:59pm I would love to go to either London, where I have never been, or back to Cancun, which is absolutely beautiful. I am very poor right now, though, so I will probably stay home. |

| jettles | (reply to SueBee) posted 22-Jan-2001 9:17am i used to live in NJ and NY. i have been to pride there numerous times and it has always been great, tons to do and see, there are parties and events the whole week before. this will be my first time back for NY's pride in 4 years so hopefully i will see some of my friends there! and yes, it is BIG. i went to gay pride in san francisco twice and it is amazing as well, parade may be even bigger than ny's but i think ny has more over all events. a group of friends, my partner and i go every year to disney during the first weekend of june. the first saturday of june is gayday at disney. we have gone the last four years. last year it expanded and every park in orlando has a gay day during the week proceeding into the weekend with saturday always being at disney.(universal studios, seaworld, busch gardens are all involved) they are not official park functions but there is a website with all scheduled events and thousands and thousands of people go, this will be the 11th year. we go for four days and have a ball!! both are very empowering, lots of fun, and you get to meet many wonderful people. thanks for asking! |
| jettles | (reply to SueBee) posted 22-Jan-2001 9:20am as far as seeing all of disney, i think that is an impossibility. we have been so many times though because we are so close that we have seen a lot. they are always adding and expanding so it can be hard to keep up. there is a new park at universal studios in orlando called islands of adventure that is amazing........... great coasters! it is about 2 yrs old now but still amazing. |

| Enheduanna | posted 22-Jan-2001 8:40pm I just found out that I have a buttload of frequent flier miles, and I only need a half-buttload for a free domestic US ticket, and about 2/3 of a buttload for a ticket to Europe. So the vacation prospects are looking even brighter! |
| SueBee | (reply to jettles) posted 22-Jan-2001 11:52pm They both sound great. I forgot all about gayday at the Disney parks. I'll have to try to get there one of these years. |

| romkey | posted 24-Jan-2001 11:06am I plan to do some traveling, to China, and possibly Wales and Ireland. We had plans to go to Italy in the fall but that's been moved to next year. None of these trips are really what I think of as vacation though they aren't business, either. |
| romkey | posted 24-Jan-2001 11:08am I totally forgot about the Whistler trip in the last week of March. I hope the maple sap's running before then. |
| daver | (reply to romkey) posted 24-Jan-2001 11:14am Are you making your own maple syrup? |
| romkey | (reply to daver) posted 24-Jan-2001 3:50pm I'd like to. I've wanted to for the last couple of years but I keep missing the prime week of sap... |
| daver | (reply to romkey) posted 24-Jan-2001 4:22pm I made a wee amount when I was in Maine. It took a lot of boiling down to get to something syrupy. |
| SueBee | (reply to bill) posted 24-Jan-2001 6:57pm We don't ski, but you must have to stop for meals occasionally. Maybe we could meet you for lunch or something? |

| romkey | (reply to daver) posted 24-Jan-2001 11:10pm yeah I gather it's about about a 40 to 1 ratio of sap to syrup... so I figure I'll only make a little bit am I remembering right that you were once looking for a good source of lots of maple syrup? |
| romkey | (reply to SueBee) posted 24-Jan-2001 11:11pm my partner and I will be along with bill and jen. I'd love to meet you and mandy. I don't ski either |
| daver | (reply to romkey) posted 24-Jan-2001 11:22pm Yep. I found some and immediately fermented it. |
| SueBee | (reply to romkey) posted 24-Jan-2001 11:50pm Yippee!! We'd love to meet you and lion, too! What is there to do in Whistler if you don't ski? Any other SC users coming along? There's some great stuff to do in Vancouver, too, if you have any extra time, but if your activities are already planned out, we can make it all the way to Whistler for a visit. |

| Matt | (reply to SueBee) posted 25-Jan-2001 5:31pm There's a nice village at the bottom of the hill, they have a lot of things to do there, and lots of snow to play in too! http://www.whistlervillagecam.com/ http://www.whistler-blackcomb.com/ |
| romkey | (reply to daver) posted 26-Jan-2001 11:02am ah it figures you'd be fermenting it |
| romkey | (reply to SueBee) posted 26-Jan-2001 11:02am I'm mostly along for the ride... I think we're spending the first evening in vancouver and then heading up to Whistler |
| SueBee | (reply to Matt) posted 26-Jan-2001 11:17am Cool! Thanks for the info! Do you mean that the village is right there within walking distance of the ski area? |
| daver | (reply to romkey) posted 26-Jan-2001 11:35am I have no idea. I've been calling it maple mead or maple wine interchangeably. It's a very pretty golden color and rather more strongly flavored than I expected. I'll probably end up using it to flavor some mead if the taste doesn't mellow in a year or two. You're welcome to borrow my brewing setup (15 gallon pot and 200KBTU/hr burner) for boiling down the sap (should you collect some this year). |
| bbennett1 | posted 26-Jan-2001 2:46pm It will be a low cost vacation this year. |
| Matt | (reply to SueBee) posted 26-Jan-2001 2:53pm There are two villages, the Upper Whistler and Whistler village. Whistler is right where the chair lifts are. From the market place to the lifts, there's about a 10 minute walk, but I think they have a few gondolas that might bring you from one place to the next. Upper Whistler is where Blackcomb is situated, I think you can access it by gondolas too. |
