| silentscreams | posted 20-Jan-2001 11:45pm yup yup yup!! go me go me i guess its pretty easy when you have no friends and you're depressed |
| bill | posted 21-Jan-2001 9:06am It was something I knew how to do for a while in grade school, I learned a method (from a book and from a friend - a mix). It would take me about 3 minutes I think. At this point, I doubt I could do it, but with a little time and experimentation I could probably pull it off. |
| Jemmy | (reply to bill) posted 21-Jan-2001 11:06am That's weird, there's a book on how to solve them? I was drunk when I solved it. I can't do it now though. |
| bill | (reply to Jemmy) posted 21-Jan-2001 11:28am I believe there are several methods for solving it. The book I owned was called "The Simple Solution to Rubik's Cube", it was about 30 pages long (with pictures). It went something like this: solve one side, get all the corners right as well, flip it and solve the corners on the opposite side of the side you solved, here is where I used a handful of memorized moves, solve for the rest of it -- the "edges" with more moves from the book. I believe that I once solved it "by accident" before I learned the solution. Also, I took my cube apart a lot to solve it, before I knew how. My friends and I actually lubricated our cubes so they would move better. I remember they got too lose (they would burst apart when we tried to solve them quickly), we had to clean them after that. This was in the early 1980's. |
| mandy | posted 21-Jan-2001 2:31pm yes! |
| mandy | (reply to bill) posted 21-Jan-2001 2:33pm Lubik's cube! |
| Jemmy | (reply to bill) posted 21-Jan-2001 3:29pm lol I should learn how to solve it so people will think I'm really really smart. Were these things really popular or something then, because I never see them anymore. |
| seeq | posted 21-Jan-2001 5:03pm i just can't help it !, once my brother got mad at me, coz all the colored dot's where letting loose... |
| juliw | posted 21-Jan-2001 6:51pm It has been over twenty years since I have even tried |
| juliw | (reply to Jemmy) posted 21-Jan-2001 6:55pm Yeah they were really popular. The year I got mine, it seemed like all my friends got them for christmas, too. |
| Jemmy | (reply to juliw) posted 21-Jan-2001 7:16pm Really? I didn't know they were a big trend. To me, they've just sort of always been around. |
| Richard | (reply to Jemmy) posted 21-Jan-2001 8:51pm Hare Krishna! |

| nasale | posted 21-Jan-2001 11:20pm I was otherwise occupied with other things when it first came out. My middle son is not known for his patience and he managed to solve it. I was so impressed until I found out he had taken off the stickers to solve it. I'll bet he's far from the only one. |
| bill | posted 22-Jan-2001 6:21am BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CUBE... it's heyday was ~1982. |
| Wicksy | posted 22-Jan-2001 9:05am No, I was absolutely hopeless at it. Even when I cheated, I couldn't do it |
| jkiehart | posted 22-Jan-2001 9:19am No, I would get really happy when I got one side. I wasn't the sharpest tack on the bulletin board when I was a kid. Oh wait, I'm not now. |
| juliw | (reply to Jemmy) posted 25-Jan-2001 7:20pm It was around 1976--possibly before your time |
| juliw | (reply to bill) posted 25-Jan-2001 7:26pm Oops!! I just noticed that you said its heyday was 1982--I knew it was a long time ago |
| Jemmy | (reply to juliw) posted 25-Jan-2001 7:34pm Yeah, it is. |

| Krisstah | posted 26-Jan-2001 2:52pm I took all the stickers off, and put them in the place where they would match up... |
| ASexyBabesToy | posted 27-Jan-2001 11:36am I bought the book. |
| d0orman | posted 1-Feb-2001 12:32pm My dad knows the system of how to solw it, he made it up himself. He taught me. |
| mrboulders | posted 1-Feb-2001 3:23pm used a book to do it, had some good techniques |
| insomniac | posted 3-Feb-2001 9:26am I disassembled it, with a screwdriver, and put it together again. Does that constitute cheating? The cube came without any instructions, so maybe I am missing something. |
| ASexyBabe | (reply to insomniac) posted 4-Feb-2001 11:57am Yes that is most certainly cheating. |
| Ronin | posted 6-Feb-2001 7:58pm all I can say is that yes I have cheated and it made me feel bad, so I kept on trying to solve it untill I did and I guess luck looked my way and let me have the solution. big deal huh? |
| magbast | posted 8-Feb-2001 12:59am with and without cheating |
| marsinhab | posted 10-Feb-2001 3:03am When I was little I peeled off the colors, that hurt my fingers, they made that difficult. |
| Zang | posted 12-Feb-2001 4:37pm No. I have gotten all but the four in one corner...then I got stuck. When I tried to continue, it got all mixed up again. |
| anonymous | posted 13-Feb-2001 8:55am A Long Long time ago, I can still remember how that cube used to piss me off..... |
