I downloaded a 4-dimensional Rubik's Cube program. It's insane.

It was something I knew how to do for a while in grade school, I learned a method (from a book and from a friend - a mix). It would take me about 3 minutes I think. At this point, I doubt I could do it, but with a little time and experimentation I could probably pull it off.

That's weird, there's a book on how to solve them? I was drunk when I solved it. I can't do it now though.

I believe there are several methods for solving it. The book I owned was called "The Simple Solution to Rubik's Cube", it was about 30 pages long (with pictures). It went something like this: solve one side, get all the corners right as well, flip it and solve the corners on the opposite side of the side you solved, here is where I used a handful of memorized moves, solve for the rest of it -- the "edges" with more moves from the book.

I believe that I once solved it "by accident" before I learned the solution. Also, I took my cube apart a lot to solve it, before I knew how. My friends and I actually lubricated our cubes so they would move better. I remember they got too lose (they would burst apart when we tried to solve them quickly), we had to clean them after that. This was in the early 1980's.

lol I should learn how to solve it so people will think I'm really really smart. Were these things really popular or something then, because I never see them anymore.

Yeah they were really popular. The year I got mine, it seemed like all my friends got them for christmas, too.

Really? I didn't know they were a big trend. To me, they've just sort of always been around.

I was otherwise occupied with other things when it first came out. My middle son is not known for his patience and he managed to solve it. I was so impressed until I found out he had taken off the stickers to solve it. I'll bet he's far from the only one.

No, I would get really happy when I got one side. I wasn't the sharpest tack on the bulletin board when I was a kid.

Oh wait, I'm not now.

I disassembled it, with a screwdriver, and put it together again.
Does that constitute cheating? The cube came without any
instructions, so maybe I am missing something.

No. I have gotten all but the four in one corner...then I got stuck. When I tried to continue, it got all mixed up again.
