Muldar, Nancy Drew, P.K.Dick charcters, Felix the Cat, Sherlock Holmes, Sparkle Hayter characters, Miss Marple or whoever the woman on PBS is. I'm not much in to detective stories. Oops, missed Clousseau.

Batman. What can I say, I'm still a big kid at heart.

I do like a lot of the others. The sheer deductive reasoning of Sherlock Holmes, the Agatha Christie detectives. The "It's ok, I'm here" attitude of Clouseau.

The way Columbo walks out of the room, and *just* at the exact moment the murderer breaths a sigh of relief, he turns round and says "er.. just one more thing. I know you killed your wife, and I'm gonna prove it".

The way that 48 hours after Jessica Fletcher visits a second cousin twice removed, he gets framed for murder by an incompetent Sheriff, and its up to Jessica to find the *real* culprit, which she does via a throwaway comment from a minor character ("Jessica, do you mind if I turn the light on?" " "Turn the light on?" hmm.. light.. Of course, how could I have been so stupid?")

Columbo! I love Columbo! He's brilliant. I used to watch him when I was a kid, but I didn't really find my appreciation for him until I was about 19 and I watched an old rerun I'd seen before, on the French channel, while I was on acid. The combination of those elements caused me to focus more on his technique. He's very observant, has a good understanding of psychology, milks his "annoying idiot" routine for all it is worth, and is able to pull off a con job when necessary. They always have great actors playing his foil too.

My 2nd favourite would have to be Philip Marlowe. I recently started getting Raymond Chandler books on tape from the library. Read by Elliot Gould. I recommend them to anyone who thinks they might enjoy that type of thing. They're pretty funny and entertaining.

Also, for animated detectives, I enjoyed:
Josie and the P*u*s*s*y*cats! (on Earth or in outer space) (sorry for the weird spelling but the swearchecker blocked it otherwise).
Scooby Doo (the original, with Velma, Daphne, Fred, and Shaggy, and without Scrappy or any Guest Stars).
Jem and the Holograms.

If you don't mind my saying, I adore your username! Did you get it from the Fleetwood mac song of the same name?

Yes, I loved the way batman could pick up three pennies and reason that it was a clue that a gas bomb was to be set off at the policemans charity ball being held at the old penny arcade on 3rd st.

Yes, Columbo's great! He starts off innocently enough, quickly becomes annoying, but you always knew he'd find some obscure overlooked detail that the case hangs on.

Columbo! I've always love Columbo. You start out the show KNOWING who did it, and then we get to watch him figure it out.

I can't remember his name but he is a PI in a set of books by P N Elrod called (I think) The Vampire Files...
Great detective type, urban fantasy type books.

I also agree with Jody, I like Quincy, M.E. (Medical Examiner) too.

I used to like Inspector Morse and Inspector Wexford (sp?). There was also a fairly good series I don't recall the name of on TV not all that long ago... the detective was Andy, though I don't remember any other names.
