Australia Day -January 26. I like it because there are no gifts or anything else to prepare. It's in the middle of summer and all there is to do is go to the beach. They want to change the date because January 26 in when the British first landed in 1788 and the Aborigines have been calling it "Invasion Day". Nice eh?

I really love Christmas. I know it is sort of a pathetis, cheesy, over-marketed holiday, but I love buying presents and seeing the look on people's faces when they like what they get. I love wrapping presents and making every one special. I love the music, the food, the happiness. I love recieving presents too, of course, and that this person bought me something because they like me.
The only thing I don't like is the weather.

Great survey! * smile *

Can't you just answer without thinking about sex.
It's getting very childish.

Christmas, for the reasons Jemmy listed, pretty much. Except the weather doesn't bother me--especially since I've spent most of my Christmases in southern California. But celebrating the holiday in a place where they really have winter is nice, too.

Well, I guess that depends on how you want to define "holiday". The narrowest definition of the term would be a day off work for religious observance, and therefore limited to Easter and Christmas. I don't think I have a "favourite" of those two, so I'll loosen up the definition to be any day marked on the calendar as a special observance. Halloween and New Years Eve in that order. I see this one is getting a bad rating, it isn't that good, but I'm going to give it a "good" just to bring it up a bit. I don't think it deserves to be this low.

I like valentines day because it encourages love and closeness but is less frought with the need to plan, or schedule, or buy things than Christmas, Thanksgiving, or birthdays.

Easter. It is the most meaningful to me. But it's a close call because I like Christmas a lot too. Thanksgiving is lovely (but I don't normally celebrate it). I think I like them all except the Queen's Birthday, which is just silly in Australia.

I'm not sure I really have a favorite... thanksgiving is good because a lot of friends have time off and we can hang out and I can cook a lot. Same goes for Christmas, and that flows into New Year's, so that's nice too. It's not the holidays themselves that I like (I don't decorate, not into christmas cheer) but the side-effects of them.

Visiting Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario has probably been my favourite holiday if you're speaking of "vacations". I'll always have a tender place in my heart for this tiny camp in northern Michigan though so that would be my favourite holiday destination. If you're speaking of annual observances, Easter is my favourite because it holds some of my sweetest childhood memories.

HEY GUYS, SORRY I TOOK SO LONG TO WRITE TO EVERYBODY.
OK, I'LL START BY CLEARING UP WHAT I MEAN BY "HOLIDAY". A HOLIDAY, TO ME, IS BOTH THE ANNUAL, RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES (SUCH AS CHRISTMAS, THANKSGIVING, ETC.) AND THE VACATIONS (SUCH AS TRIPS DOWN SOUTH ). IT'S THE TIME THAT YOU ARE SOURROUNDED BY FRIENDS AND FAMILY JOINED TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE AN OCCASION. SOME OF THE OCCASIONS ARE A BIT OBVIOUS. CHRIST'S BIRTH, UNION OF PILGRIMS AND INDIANS...AND SOME ARE LESS OBVIOUS. CELEBRATING THE FACT THAT AFTER 15 YEARS, A FAMILY CAN AFFORD TO PAY A VACTION AND VISIT FAMILY ON ANOTHER CONTINENT. CELEBRATING LOVE BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE WHO LOOKED INTO EACH OTHER'S EYES AND REALIZED "THIS IS THE PERSON I WANT TO SPEND MY LIFE WITH". EMOTIONAL ENOUGH???
NOW, THAT BEING SAID, I HAVE TWO FAV HOLIDAYS. CHRISTMAS, PROBABLY BECAUSE IT'S THE FEWEST TIME THE WHOLE, AND I MEAN WHOLE, FAMILY GETS TOGETHER. AND IF YOU LIVE IN CANADA, YOU KNOW THE SNOW FORMING A BEAUTIFUL BLANKET ON THE PAVEMENT AND TREE BRANCHES IS A SPECTACULAR SIGHT.
THE SECOND HOLIDAY I LOVE WAS THE TRIP I TOOK WITH MY FAMILY TO ITALY. THERE I MET MY FATHER'S SIDE OF THE FAMILY WHOM I'VE NEVER MET BEFORE. TO FINALLY MAKE THOSE STRANGERS INTO TO TRUE FAMILY. I CALL THEM STARNGERS BECAUSE, YES, THEY ARE MY BLOOD, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM EXCEPT THEY'RE MY DAD'S BROTHER'S AND SISTERS.
SO, THIS IS A DAMN LONG LETTER. AND SINCE I'M RESTRICTED TO THE INTERNET 1 A WEEK, NOW, EXPECT ANOTHER LONG LETTER A WEEK FROM NOW.

Thank you Zang for being considerate. A long time a go I would see my low rating as evil, and probably blow up at everyone who gave me the low rating. But I've realized that that doesn't matter. As long as 1 person liked it, and I made that one person smile, I am happy.

Probably Christmas, because I love the whole gift exchange thing, and enjoy watching the people who are trying to be 'pagan' argue over where the whole tree thing came from, and how the damn Christians have stolen all their holidays from the pagans, and all that crap. See them in their natural habitats doing natural things........like throwing their own feces! It's just funny watching them trying to be cool and hip and pagan, with something to prove.

TO EVERYONE!
IT'S BEEN A FUN RIDE, BUT IT MUST COME TO AN END. I FEEL THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THOSE WHO PARTICIPATE ON MY SURVEYS. I CAN MAKE EXCUSES, BUT NOTHING JUSTIFIES WHY I CAN'T WRITE ANYMORE. TIME IS PRECIOUS AND, FRANKLY, I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OF IT. THEREFOR, THIS IS THE END OF IT.
I WON'T BE CANCELLING MY ACCOUNT (MAINLY BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW) SO IF YOU FEEL MY SURVEY IS A PLACE THAT GETS YOU IN CONTACT WITH ANYONE ELSE, FEEL FREE TO USE IT. HOWEVER, DON'T EXPECT ME TO BE WRITING BACK.
I WANTED TO THANK EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME SINCE OCTOBER 1ST (THE DAY MY FIRST SURVEY WAS ISSUED).
JEMS, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND KNOW THAT THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN GUYS.
KRISTAL_ROSE, YOUR ADVICE HAS GUIDED ME THROUGH SINCE DAY ONE AND YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM ARE AN INSPIRATION. I KNOW I DON'T SPEAK FOR MYSELF WHEN I SAY YOU ARE EXTREMELY RESPECTED FOR YOUR WONDERFUL INPUT.
MAARTEN, REMEMBER THAT WHEN I BECOME THE FAMOUS STAR I TOLD YOU ABOUT, YOU'LL BE THE FIRST ON MY VISIT LIST! A PROMISE IS A PROMISE!
MIREILLENS, GOOD LUCK, AND DON'T GIVE JEMMY TOO MUCH OF A HARD TIME. SHE'S YOUNG!
IAMLOSER, THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME REALIZE THAT ALTHOUGH SOMEONE DOES NOT LIKE SOMETHING I HAVE DONE, IT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN PERSONALLY. THERE ARE HITS AND THERE ARE MISSES.
SO, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. OH! I REALLY HOPE THE PEOPLE I MENTIONED CAN READ WHAT I SAID. IF ITS POSSIBLE TO SPREAD THE WORD TO THOSE PEOPLE (JEMS, I KNOW I CAN TRUST YOU TO DO THAT FOR ME). THANK YOU.
GOOD-BYE!

Christmas-just everything about it. Obviously, the birth of Christ, but also just the sense of fun surrounding the season. Getting together with family and friends, the cookies, the presents, shopping for others, the music, the old movies like "It's A Wonderful Life", watching Rudolph and Charlie Brown Christmas specials, going to see "The Nutcracker", seeing the sheer delight in the faces of little kids. A mall near us has a 10' tall "talking" snowman that little kids stand in line to see. Sometimes, after they have talked to Archie, and start to walk away, he will call out "Bye, Megan" or whatever, and the kid will be so thrilled.
